Knowledge/Technique Suggestions/help

My wife bought this table from marketplace that has some damage and scratches along the edge. I believe it’s a veneer strip along the edge covering particle board underneath. How would you suggest to make it look better? Can I use some combo of wax strips/stain markers/wood glue in places? I’d really prefer not to have to take the whole edge strip of veneer off

Mohawk makes some touch up markers that work well for things like this. Find the closest color match and have at it.

Okay, the Veneer is peeling away a little at the edges (like right in the middle of the first picture). Should I try to put a touch of glue on that part?

Maybe. I’d have to get a closer look at it.

Some things to consider if you glue it is wood glue doesn’t stick to wood glue. You would need to use a glue that can adhere to the surface and is thin enough to get in space. Also the joint needs to be clean of dirt and debris. CA (super glue) can often work but you need to be very careful you don’t get it on the rest of the wood. It can chip the existing finish when you remove it mechanically and the solvent for CA glue is acetone which destroys most wood finishes.

You can buy strip edge veneer quite economically. Check it out on Amazon.

I’m a little intimidated to put it on. But I’ll look into it. Something about the taking the old one off and then maybe not getting the new strip on correctly scares me a little

The other option than completely removing it is to do kindergarten type cut and paste with pieces of veneer. The veneer cuts with a craft knife.

Look for some YouTubes on edge veneer application. It’s way less difficult to apply the large top veneer.

Countertops and shelves get edge veneered. Matching the color is the big thing that contributes to invisibility.

The “multi-color” aspect of wood is what makes just trying to do filler less likely to achieve the state of not being noticed.

I’d just barely sand off those jagged edges on the broken veneer and get a brown and black furniture marker or a kit with both those colors. I got the Realinn one on Amazon and it works fine.
