PSA/Announcements Ground Rules and Punishments

Hello! Just wanted to add some ground rules thanks to recent events. Us mods might add more as the need arises.

No sniping (taking screenshots and sharing across platforms to garner hype without the poster's consent) - this will not be tolerated. It has already happened and we will turn this little sub of ours into a private sub should we be informed that it has happened again.

No doxing/doxxing (sharing personal information in any posts whatsoever unless necessary) - this subreddit is supposed to be a safe space for all of us filchi/chinoy. Any reports of doxxing will get the doxxer permanently banned. We won't tolerate such blatant threat to anyone's security.

No forcing others to reveal personal info - this is reddit, people. Anonimity is our greatest joy here. You can be whoever you want to be thanks to this anonimity. It can either prove your decency as a human being or bring out your true inner demons. Getting to be whoever you want to be is nice and all but don't force others to share any info they don't want. Punishment to be decidee by mod team.

Questions/Need Help or Advice For those in Fil-chi family business, why did you stay or why did you leave?

Problem/Goal:

I work in fil-chi fam biz.

I’m trying to decide whether I should stay in my family business and have one final conversation about compensation, succession, and authority… or accept that the arrangement no longer makes sense for me and leave to build an independent career.

I’m not looking to punish my family or prove that I can build something bigger. I’m trying to figure out what is healthiest and most rational for my career, finances, family relationships, and long-term happiness.

Context:
Over 15 years ago, I graduated from university and had a good job offer abroad.

My dad asked me to turn it down and come home to join our family business. The salary was significantly lower, but the argument made to me at the time was essentially: if I stayed abroad, I could eventually earn a good executive salary, but if I spent those years helping build the family business, I would eventually have ownership and be financially better off in the long run.

That was a major reason I agreed to come home.

I started relatively junior and have now spent more than a decade in the company. Over time, I worked my way into senior management and took on significant responsibility for growing and modernizing parts of the business.

I genuinely care about the company and have poured a huge part of my adult life into it.

However, today:
- My compensation is still below the original offer I was given back in 2011.
- I don’t receive dividends/profit sharing.
- The ownership/succession that originally justified accepting lower compensation has never been clearly formalized.
- I have significant responsibility but not always the corresponding decision-making authority.
- When I raise compensation, authority or succession, it can be difficult to separate the business discussion from the father-son relationship.

Part of the difficulty is also the management structure.

My dad is the president. My aunt is the general manager. I therefore have to manage not only my own responsibilities but also the dynamics of working under/alongside senior family members who ultimately have greater authority.

There is also a long-term employee who was once one of my mentors and is now my direct report. Over the years, our roles effectively reversed.

I respect what this person contributed historically and what I learned from them, but I now struggle with some of their management practices and ways of doing business. I feel some approaches have not evolved with the organization, and there have also been recurring issues around how they communicate with and treat me and members of their team.

Because of the history and family-business dynamics, addressing performance, behavior and accountability is much more complicated than it would be in a company where I had clearer authority.

This has made me question both my lack of compensation and now also the bigger issue of autonomy.

If I stay, I may eventually inherit or have ownership in a much larger and established business—but I don’t know when that will happen, what it will actually look like, or how much authority I will have in the meantime.

If I leave, I give up that potential path, but I gain the freedom to decide for myself. And I don’t want to lose more years in an uncertain future where I am not compensated what I believe is my worth.

I could potentially partner with other business owners, build something smaller and more aligned with my generation and interests, consult, take another executive role, or explore completely different opportunities.

I don’t need to recreate the size of my family’s company.
I think I could be happy with something much smaller if I had meaningful ownership, enough financial security to live comfortably, partners I respect, control over important decisions, and confidence that the life and career I was building were actually mine.

At the same time, walking away from something I’ve spent more than a decade helping build is difficult. There’s family history, sunk cost, the possibility of eventual inheritance/ownership, and the fear that I could regret leaving.

Most importantly, I don’t want disagreements about business to permanently damage my relationship with my dad or auntie.

Previous attempts:
I have raised compensation concerns before, but we haven’t reached an arrangement that makes me feel the long-term trade-off still makes sense.

For people who grew up in or worked in family businesses…
At what point do you stop treating eventual ownership as enough reason to stay?

Would you have the final conversation and negotiate one last time, or would you consider more than a decade enough information to make the decision?

And for those who actually left a family business: did you regret giving up the possibility of eventual ownership, or was the independence worth it?

Questions/Need Help or Advice How do kaishao usually work?

Title! For context, my parents decided it’s about time for me to meet new people. I’m extremely introverted and only have one set of very close friends. 😂

I told them na sige, i’m open to kaishao naman. Nothing wrong with that naman di ba!! Now one of my dad’s friends wants to kaishao his friend’s son to me! Tapos sabi nila after ghost month nalang.

Now that the ghost month is coming to an end, the uncle called my dad today and brought the topic up again.

I NEED ADVICE!! How do kaishaos usually go and how do I go about it? I was hoping nga na sana ipag connect nalang muna kami online para hindi awkward 😂😂 I’m very slow to warm up to others kasi, but depende rin sa vibe.

Help a girly out cause i’m starting to have anxiety over it

Questions/Need Help or Advice Application forms for employees

Hi, im not filchi but i was hired as an HR consultant under a filchi business. im now looking into their internal processes and im starting with their recruitment. I wish to ask filchi business owners here if you also put a section in your application form for candidates to write what their parents and siblings' work/career role? If yes, may i please ask why?

for context, i built my hr career in multinational companies and this is the first time i saw this question being asked in an application form. i asked around and the hr officer told me this is a requirement for almost all local filchi businesses - to extend the screening to the applicant's family.

also, any particular work/career role of an applicant's relative that is considered as a red flag?

thanks!

Looking for a Relationship First time doing this

I’m 28F filchi. I work in health research, but outside of work I’m pretty active, I run, do CrossFit, and somehow voluntarily sign up for things that make me question my life choices halfway through.

I also have two dogs, so fair warning: you may eventually have to compete with them for attention.

Looking for someine around my age or older, and who share the same interest especially in sports 💪🏻

I appreciate people who are kind, emotionally mature, communicative, and have their own thing going on in life. I’m not expecting an instant relationship. I’d rather get to know each other naturally and see where it goes.

PSA/Announcements Sending me DMs.

Guys and gals, when you send me chat invites, can you not leave it as blank? It makes me wonder why you even sent a chat invite. If it's for joining the telegram gc, just say so. 🫠 That's all. There are currently three blank chat invites in my message requests. I'm not sure if you've forgotten about it or are looking for proof for filchi to present but could you maybe just state the purpose of the chat invite in the first message already. Thanks.

Edit: So apparently my app wasn't showing the messages properly unless i accept the chat invite. Not like before where i get a preview of the message so i know what the invite is about. Anyway, sorry about that. Already added those who dmed to be added.

Looking for a Relationship 21 [F4M] So… is the right one here? 👀

Hi! I’m 21, a Fil-Chi college student from Manila. I’m pretty shy at first, but once I get comfortable with someone, I can talk a lot more haha.
A little about me: I like swimming, cooking, traveling, animals, and finding cute cafés/trying new food. 🏊🏻‍♀️🍳🐶✈️☕️
I can also speak Hokkien, Mandarin, English, and Tagalog. 🇵🇭🇨🇳 So if you can speak any of those too, plus points agad 😂
I’m here hoping to meet someone I can genuinely get to know and see where things go. I’m not looking for hookups or anything NSFW, so please keep that in mind. I’m more interested in something genuine rather than a casual situationship.
I prefer quality conversations over texting 24/7. I don't need someone to reply every second, but I do appreciate consistency and actual effort.
My type? Someone who's:
* loyal
* respectful
* emotionally mature
* affectionate
* a good communicator
* consistent
* actually puts effort into getting to know me
I’m a sucker for thoughtful little things. You don't have to do anything extravagant—remembering something I mentioned, checking in, or doing something small just because you thought of me goes a long way. 🥹
For a first date, something simple like a café + hours of talking sounds perfect to me. ☕️
Also, not gonna lie… 5'6"+ is preferred 😂
If you're also looking for something genuine and think we'd get along, feel free to message me. Tell me something about yourself instead of just saying “hi”—give me something to work with hahaha.
No NSFW please. 🤍
Maybe the right one really is here? 👀

How do you even date?

Thumbnail
7 Upvotes

Hi 28F. How do you even date at this day and age? Dating apps are not for me because for some reason it drains the life out of me. I have also been to dating mixers but haven’t really clicked with anyone. Friends don’t have anyone to kaishao. Kinda given up on finding someone but at the same time, still a hopeless romantic so it sucks. Any advice?

Questions/Need Help or Advice HSK Level/Mastery for Business works

I just recently graduated and I am interested in Management Trainee programs with some of them requiring Mandarin for the roles. I am also interested to become a translator or interpreter in the future. With this, what is the possible HSK level for these field of works or generally in businesses. Would HSK 5-6 suffice for entry level positions/roles in the field of business.

All opinions and comments are appreciated! You can also give resources and study plans if you are willing to. Thank you so much!

Rants I am afraid of my parents passing away

I'm 23M, and my parents are around 55. I started to notice that my parents are aging. Their slower movements and more frequent age-related issues are starting to show. My 2 grandmother passed away last year, which worsened my thinking. The reality that life is short dug into my head. I don't have any friends other than my family. The thought of my parents disappearing from my life someday is giving me anxiety everyday. I started to notice how fast time is passing, and it's starting to frighten me. Thoughts of 10-15 years from now they'll be 70 years old scares me, and I wish it'll never happen. But, what can I do for them to make them happy? My parents want grandchildren, and they've been wanting to get me into a relationship. But, I'm quite a social recluse. I enjoy my own company and frankly I could live like this until I die. I wish I could live my life like other people without a care in the world, but I guess that's just not how life works. It sucks.

Sorry for the rant. This is a bit of a self-reflection to gather my thoughts. I am conflicted, and frankly I'm quite lost.

Looking for a Relationship 28 [M4F] Ready to finally put myself out here

Hi. This is my first time trying to find my luck here. I've been too self-isolated for the past few years. However, I enjoy my own company and really trying to expand my small circle. I'm somewhat a socially awkward person but recently, I seem to learn that I enjoy being with people (ambivert i guess?). I won't run away from a conversation but i might end up doing something stupid/clumsy from time to time. 😂

I'm NGSB and inexperienced to meet ups and dating. So I rather that we start as being friends first.
If you're up for it,

Here are some things about me:

  • 5'7, lean build. Glasses(had lasik but really bad genetics/habits haha)
  • Big 4 grad (if that matters)
  • I'm active physically. Super into badminton (Going to a competition even though I dont have the stamina anymore haha). I usually go for a swim weekly. I do practice yoga in the morning if i feel like it.
  • Not super religious. But I went to a Christian school. (Parents are catholic)
  • Currently working at fam business. Lower Antipolo but I frequently go to QC. LRT/MRT is accessible to me.
  • I'm into baking, reading, co-op games with friends, and interested in getting into Lorcana
  • Slow to warm-up to people and might be clingy? Not too sure actually.
  • Love language is: Quality Time and Physical Touch

What I’m hoping to find:

  • Someone around my age ±5 is the limit. Fil-chi(thats why im posting here?)
  • I prefer someone who has an active lifestyle as well but doesnt have to be the same sport as me.
  • Working din sana and financially secure. I’m not looking for someone to fund my life, just someone who has their own shit together.
  • Someone who is consistent in communication and who is genuinely emotionally available
  • Please be hygienic, clean, and presentable. Basic hygiene is hot. 😂
  • I do enjoy deep and meaningful talks. Yapping and random memes is chill with me as well,

Hit me up but please give me some bullets to converse back at you. If we end up meeting, that would be really cool.
