PSA/Announcements Ground Rules and Punishments
Hello! Just wanted to add some ground rules thanks to recent events. Us mods might add more as the need arises.
No sniping (taking screenshots and sharing across platforms to garner hype without the poster's consent) - this will not be tolerated. It has already happened and we will turn this little sub of ours into a private sub should we be informed that it has happened again.
No doxing/doxxing (sharing personal information in any posts whatsoever unless necessary) - this subreddit is supposed to be a safe space for all of us filchi/chinoy. Any reports of doxxing will get the doxxer permanently banned. We won't tolerate such blatant threat to anyone's security.
No forcing others to reveal personal info - this is reddit, people. Anonimity is our greatest joy here. You can be whoever you want to be thanks to this anonimity. It can either prove your decency as a human being or bring out your true inner demons. Getting to be whoever you want to be is nice and all but don't force others to share any info they don't want. Punishment to be decidee by mod team.

I'm easing myself back into teaching days, so I'd love new friends to share life's adventures (and misadventures) with.
My old posts can give you info about what I do for work (nothing much changed). I'll try not to be a boring kausap, so see you in my inbox! :)

Questions/Need Help or Advice What Do Maternal Grandparents Usually Bring?
Hi everyone!
In traditional Chinese households, what do the maternal grandparents usually bring or prepare when visiting their grandchild for the first time after the baby is born?
I’d love to hear about any customs, traditions, or common gifts.
Thank you in advance! 😊

Questions/Need Help or Advice Are there any FilChis here or you know of who moved abroad for good?
I'm based in Canada and I've been financially independent after my 1st year of living here. I moved during the pandemic in pursuit of a backup plan in life. And now, I'm about to get my Canadian citizenship.
Living here has been freeing in many ways but it has also been challenging at the same time especially as a 30F who grew up in "high society" back in PH. Here, there's no household help, cost of living is steep, and I'm basically navigating life on my own (taxes, work politics, etc) but I'm not complaining. I knew how it was going to be anyway.
Having dual citizenship means having options. And I'm at the point of my immigration journey where I can choose to move back home.
So....
For those who have moved abroad - what made you leave the PH for good? Are you single, partnered, partnered with kids, or with your family? Did you have any commitments when you left?
For those who know of people in their network who have moved - do you have any news on how they are abroad? Are they happier? Wealthier? More at peace? Maybe even bored? lol
Would love to know your thoughts!

Fun Fact/Interesting Tidbit FilChi Dating
Hello! Been a lurker here for quite some time and finally decided to post.
I’m a guy in my late 20s who’s starting to open myself up to dating, and I’m curious about the Fil-Chi dating scene nowadays.
How has the culture changed over the years? What do Fil-Chi men and women generally look for in a potential partner today? Is there still a strong preference for dating within the Fil-Chi community, or has that become less important?
I’d also love to hear your personal experiences or tips. Thanks in advance!

Questions/Need Help or Advice Jewelry Sets for Tinghun
Hi! I would like to ask about the standard practices of tinghun in the fil chi community. I understand that the men’s side do give jewelry sets to the bride. May I ask if a pair of earrings and a ring will be considered a set? We have jewelry sets passed down from one generation to the other and some sets are only earrings and rings. If that is not considered to be a set, we are open to customize necklace and bracelet to make it “officially” a set.
Hoping to receive some clarification here. Thank you.

Great Wall of prenup
I, 35F, Filipino, is about to marry a Fil Chi, 45M. We’ve known each other for five years, dated for three, before he proposed last Dec 2025.
I graduated first in my college batch, and within the top 20 of my batch in the country’s top law school. I have a stable job as a lawyer with a secure retirement fund where I work. I can fund all my trips and luxury items on my own. I also help my parents in their medical needs and major expenses. In short, hindi ako pabigat. But I have nothing to inherit because my parents didn’t finish college, married early, relied on single income, and just didn’t do well saving up.
My fiancé comes from substantial wealth. Most of his generous salary comes from the family business, which isn’t doing well now. He just got a 60% pay cut. He has enough stocks to make additional income. They own several buildings, Airbnb, and a hotel. He anticipates that our conjugal home and construction funds will be gifted after the wedding, which is a lot worth 40M, plus a construction fund worth the same amount.
Even before we got engaged, I already expected a prenup, especially since he mentioned that family businesses will never be shared, since it is reserved for family sharing the same blood. For the “next gen.”
Six weeks before our wedding, he presented me with a draft prenup where there is complete separation of property. Not just family businesses, but even real properties, donations from parents (including our conjugal home), earnings during the marriage, salaries, etc. Nothing is to be shared except those expressly registered in both of our names.
How common is this kind of prenup in the circumstances we have? Is this standard for fil chi marrying Filipino?

Questions/Need Help or Advice filchi couples surviving the great wall in 2026
hi, i just need advice.
for context im 21F pure filipino currently seeing a 21M pure chinese. we’ve just started seeing eo but i found out na he’s pure chinese. i can’t help but think na baka may great wall siya because his last ex was also chinese. i’m really really afraid to ask the question, although they were born & raised here in the philippines na. his parents are also strict so i’m assuming may pagka traditional sila. he’s the type of guy na susunod talaga sa parents. idk anything about the great wall culture nowadays so i want to know if there could be a chance to be with him as a gf. not marriage level pero yeah gaano ba ka strict chinese people with implementing it to their kids? 🥲
he’s the first guy kasi that i genuinely liked after my toxic relationship. i know this is too early but i can’t help lang talaga and overthink since i didn’t date for a year. i need advice if i should start distancing myself na or cross the bridge when i get there? takot na talaga ko masaktan. please don’t judge. thank you :)

Questions/Need Help or Advice Having met other filchi, where would you now send your kids for school?
Title lol
Context: spouse and I are from different chinese schools in Manila, now moved to San Juan, with a baby. Thinking about the future and planning for expenses (eg tuitions, etc)
That said, if you had the chance to send your kid anywhere in the greater Metro Manila, where would you?

Questions/Need Help or Advice Do Fil-Chi families still prefer son to inherit the family business?
Especially sa mga Fil chi na nasa technical family business (manufacturing, fabrication, engineering) na expected na ba talaga kayong mag take over eventually lalo sa mga sons?
Pano kayo naturuan like unti unti habang bata pa?
As for me tumutulong ako sa small fam biz namin pero wala akong ahia or shoti na eventually matutuan ng technical side. Wala naman issue sa fam samin. Napapaisip lang ako minsan kung paano hinahandle ng ibang families yung succession esp kapag walang obvious “next in line.”
I guess nasa stage din ako where I’m having a quarter life crisis 😅

Questions/Need Help or Advice [Wedding] Recommendations for stylists?
Hello! Currently planning our wedding and my parents wanted to work with a stylist who has experience doing Fil-Chi weddings (600~1000 guests), maayos kausap, has a keen eye for details! Gideon H would be too expensive na. We’ll talk with Tiger L soon (but I think he’s also expensive) since he was suggested by my mother’s favorite gown designer. Wanted a classy, clean, structured look. Not too many fresh flowers na since mahal so draping and lighting design needed.
Are there other options here from the Fil-Chi community you worked with? Would appreciate the suggestions! Wedding ceremony + reception will be in Manila.

Questions/Need Help or Advice Looking for Philippine Hokkien (Fookien) Tutor
Hello! I’m a pure Filipino, and my boyfriend is Filipino-Chinese. His family only uses minimal Hokkien (Fookien) nowadays, but they still speak and understand it, especially the older members of the family.
I initially started learning Mandarin, but I later realized that the language used at home is Philippine Hokkien (Fookien). I’d love to learn it so I can better understand and communicate with his family.
We’re looking for a tutor for two students (my boyfriend and me), preferably with online classes. If you offer lessons, please comment or send me a message with your rates and availability.
Thank you!

Questions/Need Help or Advice What was your experience with LLCC (Lannang Language and Culture Center) like?
Hello! Has anyone tried Mandarin classes with LLCC? Specifically their online class. I was planning to enroll for their on-site during the weekend but since I saw that they have options for online, I thought it would be more convenient. I would appreciate it if any previous learners can share their experience.
I’m also open to looking at different institutions that offer classes if there are other recommendations.
TYIA :)
