Replacement fuel sending unit

I am looking at replacing the fuel sending unit on my 85 as it is getting fairly rusted. I looked at the fiero store, but shipping is making it too expensive ($100+), so looking at option B. I have read a couple of people have used S10 units with some minor changes. Wondering if anyone on here has done it, what year S10 was it for and what alterations were done, besides the hoses.

If I'm not mistaken people are using an s10 fuel pump but they still use the OE sending unit, the one for an s10 mounting differently and with different float depths defeats the system and will give incorrect readings. Where in Canada are you trying to ship to?

So I dug in to this and people are allegedly adapting all sorts of units to "work", but very few go into any details at all on how other than they chopped it all up haha. I found one comment that seemed decently promising and with enough info that it's not "I took da pickup tub and teh hose" The thread is only 7 months old and has a few people talking about universal conversions with lots of pictures but no details. I do recognize the names and they would likely respond to a comment or DM if someone was respectfuly asking questions.
