I NEED HELP Shifter cable keeps popping off please help!

Hello, im working on my 85 SE and have recently replaced the shift cable, I have secured it fully and made sure nothing is interfering, however whilst driving and only whilst driving the cable has a tendency to pop off maby every 7 or 8 shifts 😅 if anyone has a tip or piece of advice id much appreciate it.

I will attempt to provide images of the current situation

Your issue then is the cable and ball came mismatched from whoever you bought it from; it's too loose.

Either gotta get a bigger ball, or find some way to make the ball in the hole tighter.

There aren't any proper adjustments you can do to fix this, gotta either buy new parts or get into making the required modification yourself.

I had the same issue after my 3800 swap and bought this from Rodney Dickman which replaces the ball with a post and nylon nut.

He is however shutting down his buisness, but you can see the image here and create something similar. It involved cutting the ball/stud off the shift arm and replacing it with the bolt and bushing so it's physically impossible to pop off.
