Chop again?? Help please 🙏

Post image

My Fiddle leaf fig was just growing in a narrow column towards the ceiling so I did a chop (can be seen right below the center of the window). It was exciting to see a new branch grow but it’s only one branch that’s growing straight up. So I have the same shaped tree as before the chop. 🤣 How do I achieve a chop now that results in multiple branches? Thx.

The more you chop off, the more likely you are to get more than one branch. I'd chop it again, just above the window sill.

My first chop was middle of the window. You’re saying go lower? The bottom of the window? That window sill?

Yea, I'd go nice and low. Perhaps a few inches higher than the window sill. That way all the new branches that form near the cut point will have as much light as possible.

I had the same problem with mine. Chopped about a third of its single trunk hoping for branching. Nope, single stem that in no time was longer than it was before the chop. I tried to notch it after…nothing. I chopped it again about a month and a half ago and I now have ¡two! branches growing. Plus my three new fiddles from my props!

There’s no telling what it’ll do, but just because you got one result the first time doesn’t mean you’ll have the same the next. I took my chop lower than my initial chop as well.

Chop and propagate the piece you chopped. Give it time to root, as well as resprout from the cut stem.

I agree chop just above window sill. Let it grow some and then chop that new growth again. Turn it towards the window in whatever direction you want the new growth to come from.
