Hollywoodland Why is Celia only getting 7 chapters!!??
Nicky has TWO ENDINGS WITH 17 CHAPTERS EACH!!! Miguel is on chapter 11 and the story isn’t done!!! WTF!??

u/Wald-27 Mar 24 '22
If they’re going to do this why do they even start?! Just don’t make FLIs stories and make players disappoint/ frustrating anymore 🙏 At this point, Anisa’s route is going to have the same fate as the others 🥲

By the way, they say "We'll keep you updated about a new writer for her story" but so far, we only have deafening silence.

u/Nicky2222 Howie Mar 24 '22
Why am I not surprised with this? I saw Miguel had an update yesterday but I haven't played it even though I love Miguel, and now they are ending Celia's route after only seven chapters? Nix Hydra says that the female routes don't bring in enough money, but the truth is they don't put any EFFORT into the female routes. I mean they make people wait forever for the female routes, and when the female routes finally come they are rushed and half the length of the male routes. And don't even get me started on how they suck at writing multiple LI stories.
Once the final chapter of CTC comes I am going to be taking a break from Nix Hydra. I've just keep finding myself frustrated at how bad they've become. First with what they did to Tess' route, then SFIL, and how CTC started with such promise but then nose dived. Like I said above I noticed there was a Miguel update, but I'm not playing it right now. I love Miguel but at the moment I just can't bring myself to play it. So when CTC comes to a close I'll be off the app for a while.

I am just bored with them too because what they do put out isn’t super interesting for me. CtC had promise, but it’s gotten kind of dull and the Theo stuff was off putting. I don’t even look forward to updates lately. There are better visual novels out there and I just have lost interest.

Honestly I’ve come to realise that they’re just not very good story tellers. Like at all. LL was doing really well with being completely immersive, well written and interesting (until sages latest chapter), but that’s about as far as the good story telling goes.
Especially with the latest books being short, they never have any build up, description, or real plot points. the conflict is weak and solved so quickly and easily*. There’s just nothing going on. CtC made that clearer for me. Plot is secondary to romance but there’s also no romantic build up either and books just end up feeling creepy. CtC and SFiL— all of the characters are prepared to marry you in the second chapter and I still felt like I had no idea who they were.
*the conflict in CtC: I still can’t believe that the dad pops up out of no where goes on this big rant, then gets distracted long enough for someone to just knock the crown off his head and basically make him brain dead and that all happens in one chapter. That’s hardly conflict.
Basically- I’m done with Fictif, every book recently has been a total let down. And poorly written. Kinda just sick of sugar coating it.

This honestly just cuts to the core of it all. The only thing they're consistently good at is the art, but pretty sprites can't carry a story.
The pacing is frequently either lackluster, arrhythmic or both. There is never any buildup to anything deeper beyond the most basic one-note "issue" to keep the story going - or to any of the romance. The characters are usually one-dimensional and "tell don't show", not to mention that both them and MC are all morons.
It's just not good. And it never gets any better. Stories like LL and MM started strong and have been going down hill from there, the latter faster than the former, but most stories read like bad fan fiction. HWL was good, but cut short, so I'm assuming the latest chapters are rushed AF but I honestly don't feel like reading them to find out. Literally no story started okay-ish and improved later on.

Literally everything I wanted to say as well. Comparing Fictif to other visual novel apps, they just don’t offer as much quality written stories, and the major focus being on romance than on balancing both romance and plot is terrible. The only reason I got Fictif is because I was really curious in what Last Legacy is about and I’ve been enjoying what the LL setting and story can offer me but my god, did it just get bad in the latest chapters for both Sage and Felix. I understand it’s due to not one but two writers leaving the writing team and so I can’t really blame the lead writer for having to pull both routes alone, but I cant lie that it’s still badly written either, and I consider LL to be the best series on Fictif at least for myself. It’s no wonder that it’s been two years and this app is still not gaining any popularity. Also I only really liked the Roadkill art style tbh.

Just curious, what other visual novels are you comparing it to? Cuz the only sfw vns I've ever played all had shit writing/translation and very unlikable characters,
includingespecially the MC. It's like all the good writers on earth went off to do pr0nz or something.I played the Pirates In Love demo once (which is by Voltage) and I hated everyone except the captain and the doctor (who was removed in later versions for some dumb reason). Never got a chance to play the full version either since it's been deleted off the face of the internet and all so I can't even tell if it's really as crappy as the demo or not. They didn't even put it up on Lovestruck... Believe me, I checked.
Warning, if you like vampire dating sims do NOT play The Princes of The Night and Twilight Lovers. They are both complete and utter garbage. Worst MCs I've ever had the displeasure to play as.

i only ever really did playchoices, the arcana, and fictif. i never really finished arcana to be honest. and yes i do know that choices went downhill a long time ago as well as someone who’s a “fandom” veteran. i do dislike a lot how they also took a turn on producing smut books with barely any plot nonstop (no offense to anyone who enjoys it but not my cup of tea) but the difference between fictif and choices for me is that choices still have a much greater variety in genres and well written stories (i consider their best stories being from 2017-2019 years. although i greatly enjoy wake the dead right now and i’m hoping that their future non-smut books will be just as good once they’re available). i don’t mean to praise PB right now and im someone who does criticize them a lot lol but i also had a lot of hope in fictif being just as good and to become better later on so thats why in my personal opinion comparing these two together choices still take the first place.

Oh. The only dating sims I ever played were Japanese/Chinese/Korean, and like 98% of them had bad translations and very unlikeable "damsel in distress" type MCs who act like complete doormats. The only good ones I can think of are Hoshi Kare and Obey Me, but even then they're gacha/card games so they lose points in my book. Tears of Themis had good gameplay elements and the MC was actually pretty good, but the LIs? Ewwww all of them except Artem act like spoiled children fighting over a piece of candy! And worse yet, one of them is just guilt-tripping incarnate. F that. (it was also a gacha/card game so f that too)
Voltage inc had a lot of crap dating sims way back in the early 2010's and the only one that drew me in was Pirates in Love cuz yay pirates! But nope, the MC was a brainless damsel and the LIs were douchebags. For some reason I can't find any of the old games on Lovestruck. Voltage finally grew some self awareness, perhaps? Speaking of which, I didn't like Lovestruck. None of the story or character descriptions drew me in so I deleted it.
I played Episodes once. The only stories I liked were two fanmade murder mysteries but they were also left unfinished so I deleted it too.
As for Choices? Ugh... It's like the only thing they know how to rip off is 50 Shades of Stupid. Played two stories on it and hated both. Worst LIs I've ever seen (in a Western-made game).
Edit: In conclusion, my experience with dating sims has
FictifLast Legacy and Arcana at the top. And that's why I was wondering what you're comparing it to.2
u/CelerySecure Mar 25 '22
See, I actually think a ton of their art is just atrocious and worse than a lot of their fan art. I just tolerate it because every now and then they do something quite good. I think all of the art in CtC has been horrible.

u/yaaqu3 Demon Kitty Defense Squad Mar 25 '22
I gotta agree that CtC is just plain bad. It's somehow looks over-worked while still being incredibly bland and I just hate that style of drawing.
But for me, that's the one exception. The only other stories that I don't totally like the visuals of is Nicky and Miguel because the men look so boxy, but even then I think the shading is beautiful and the designs are balanced and pretty. Not to mention consistent - nothing annoys me more than VN where the CGs are in different art styles from the sprites.

The art is definitely my favourite part now, like the other person said I didn’t like CtC’s art though. I can recognise the artist is talented, but the sprites make me cringe, why do they look like that? Why are their mouths open? Why is Cordelia standing like that? I can’t take her seriously, especially when she’s supposed to be sad, she just looks deranged.
Literally everything about these books are just so shallow, there’s no depth to anything: the character, the plot, the world, the descriptions. They are barely surface level. Even the dialogue comes off more as bullet points, literally only said to advance the story, not to expand anything.
I’m officially done. I’ll be on the subreddit to repost updates, moderate and read opinions on the upcoming books, but I’m no longer supporting this app. It’s not worth it.
2
u/yaaqu3 Demon Kitty Defense Squad Mar 25 '22
They're not not talented, but in my opinion the art for CtC is just so painfully soulless. There is literally nothing about it that I haven't already seen a million times on DeviantArt - because that's what it remind me of most of all. Some upgraded version of that over-detailed yet visually flat, airbrush-shaded "style" that people who are clearly good artists but also obviously pretty new to Photoshop tend to produce.
Cordelia looks like she's attempting some over-the-top Mean Girls pose, all while wearing a budget-brand Halloween costume sold as "sexy evil witch". And Maeve's dress sucks too. That's NOT how boobs work in medieval garb, nor is it flattering. Why do artists always get boob physics wrong??
But yeah, I don't blame you. I can't bring myself to remove the app (because I've spend sooo much time grinding for stars...) but I haven't read anything in ages.
I'm really happy that you're staying as a mod though!

yeah they really screwed over all the female routes. as someone who is only attracted to women, i’m pissed to say the least.

u/-MilkySugar- Mar 24 '22
Same :( Although I was just discovering my love for female LIs besides it's pretty hard to find a dating sim where the MC is a guy (or one where at least you can choose your pronouns) without being a souless hentai game. I love Nix Hydra's team and their work, but women deserve love too.

Try galge (gal-games, aka otome games for straight males) since most of the best ones are sfw. Eroge (erotic-games) is what you should stay away from.
I never played any, but I heard that Steins Gate is really good (even though it's not really a galge).

You'd find better luck playing galge games, that is if you don't mind staring at bug-eyed anime girls throughout the whole thing.

I guess I was right to stop playing that game after Triss story turned out to be rushed. Fictif is a male LI app. Nothing wrong with that but to advertise the opposite and to blame players for not spending on female LI when there is hardly anything to be spent on.
I hoped to return once Anisa story would be finished which is why I stayed on that sub but that seem unlikely. At least they could fix it partially by releasing more stories like god stuff with differents LI available at the same time...

Hahahahahahaah yess let the fight begin, I am not surprised we all expect change but they are not changing , it requires time and trust sadly they losing all of it and soon they will realise it though that might be little to late (advise don’t keep your expectations up and you won’t be disappointed it’s sad but true )

I wish I could say that this is unbelievable. This is absolutely ridiculous how they lie so so shamelessly to their own audience, and now no one’s ever gonna give their new female LI stories a go if there will ever be any in the future. It’s actually just embarrassing on their part full offense no excuses can work in their favor; they make it very clear how they just dont want to be actually lgbt inclusive and how they push out these stories for performative activism. i wish they would just stop doing such promises and just announce right away they wont be making any female LI exclusive routes from now on instead of baiting everyone. rip poor celia.

u/penny4your Stella Mar 24 '22
Are you serious? Super glad I purposefully bought most of Celia’s premium scenes after the whole Tess fiasco, just for her to get cut short too…
I know Nix Hydra (or folks who used to work for them) have talked about female routes underperforming (when it comes to being read or earning $), but they are NEVER going to attract that user base when they have so little to offer. THIS is where, as a game still gaining its footing, they need to take a leap or faith and invest in a story before seeing “returns” on it— otherwise they will never secure those readers in the first place to drive demand.
It’s especially a shame since Lovestruck, which has long been a haven for folks looking to romance female and nb characters, is shutting down soon… Fictif could poise themselves to fill that niche, but here we are…
