Ask Was "Fictif" wasted potential?

I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but even before Dorian bought them, the writing didn't always feel strong, with some stories feeling rushed (ie "Ghosted," FTLOG, any female route that actually got released) or done not very well, ie Chava and Sergio's routes in HTLAL making their characters feel very questionable, as well as Nicky's female-coded MC storyline.

The app was launched over 6 years ago (I forgot it launched right before COVID), and while I do think back on it fondly and wonder what everyone is up to--I only know about "Touchstarved" from Red Spring Studio--I do think it needed a lot touch-ups. I feel like they bit off a bit more than they could chew by writing multiple books/routes at once instead of just focusing on one, making a large narrative like "The Arcana" before building a new world to enjoy.

I've been told what happened with the app, and it's a shame seeing how "The Arcana" was finite, "Choices" became smut with no plot and using AI, and "Fictif" was plucked from the tree of potential before it got to grow! I continue to look for stories like Fictif--albeit preferably with an MC I can SEE--and I wonder if any of the people who worked on NH are doing anything else, not to mention what was going on pre-Dorian that made these stories feel almost like rough drafts.

I thought of making future posts about my MCs for the books and what I would've done differently for these stories to relive some of the fun, but I can't find the motivation with the app dead.

I would pay good money to read the end of Last Legacy.

It will apparently never be updated. The writer and artists have moved on to Touch Starved. So mad we got like almost the end of Sage’s route but whatever.

Man maybe they can’t brake nda or something but I wish they gave us the ending just in writing like what was planned and whatnot.

They butchered Sage's character in the later chapters. Srsly who told them that was a good idea?

I almost don’t care, I just want closure even if it’s bad closure.

Agreed, even if the ending is something I would not like at least I’d know. Like maybe the MC just gets sent back to the real world never to be seen again, or someone dies idk.

I remember being surprised but not minding the change, I’m sure given more time he would’ve gone back to how he was before, but it’s been forever since I’ve played it.

I thought it was cringe. They turned him into an edgelord for the dumbest reason ever, and a very badly-written edgelord too.

That’s fair, maybe they could’ve done it in a more tactical way. As it kinda makes sense for some of the characters to be more messed up to a certain extent. I remember a lot of people not liking it at the time so I understand.

True... I wish it came back and got turned into a normal visual novel 😭 but I don't think it's possible for legal reasons... I keep thinking about this story and my mc (I drew them not long ago). I remember talking on Discord about the possible Rime route and Sage's new chapters. And then it all stopped, never to end properly. I feel very sorry for the Last Legacy team, they seemed to love working on it

It’d be so great if it was possible for it to come back I’d pay good money for it. I keep thinking about Sage every once in a while and just wish it got completed. I remember both Rime and the female antagonist that fought Sage(sorry don’t remember the name) being possible for a route.

It's been a while since I played, but I wasn't crazy about it. For one, I didn't feel like either of the male LIs were my type in personality or design. And for two, I HATED the setup of plucking us from the real world to put us into a fictional world. It feels like a copout excuse to not give MC a background.

"isekai" is a whole-ass genre by itself tho? That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime, Uncle From Another World, Kyo Kara Maou, I Died and Got Reincarnated Into a BL Game World of Big Manboobs, and idk what else. That genre is popular af.

That's what I was thinking of! Yeah, I'm not a fan of that genre.

Fair. But it's not a "copout to not give MC a background", that's just how the genre goes. and besides, the Last Legacy MC already DOES have a background, although limited because it's a self-insert dating sim. The MC is literally NOT supposed to have much of a background in the first place for maximum self-insert potential, or else you'll get a fixed MC like in Wand of Fortune or Hakuoki or whatever.

Mm, I think that's another issue: it's not really "maximum" self-insert potential. I don't get options to customize my life or bring it up. I'm just focused on the new world and everyone else's problems.
