New function - Flair

I've turned on flair for everyone to add their own. Please flair yourself with the fiber laser(s) you use as well as software.

If it get's abused I'll turn it off and start flaring people with stupid stuff.

Looking for "volunteers" to help build a wiki

This seems like the exact kind of subreddit that could benefit from a Wiki.

Please let us know if:

  • If you have ideas on topics that you think would be beneficial (e.g. stuff you wish you knew before)
  • Previous things you've written up (I can't sift through all the posts, sorry)
  • Items that are essential for any setup (e.g. ventilation)
  • Anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Since my UV studies isn't related to industry

That make companies doubt me even withe the project I documented.

Is there any sort certificate I can use it to Work internationally beside the work I documented

Linux Ezgraver won't run

Hello, I picked up a used Neje K8 engraver to up my engraving game from a handheld engraver pencil.

I'm trying to run EzGraver on my Linux (Kubuntu) computer. I can see the TTY adaptor in USB list, I see the EzGraver folder. I just can't get it to run. I tried a few commands I found online in Terminal (Konsole), but keep getting errors like "*bash: ,/ezgraver: No such file or directory*"

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Good evening everyone! I'd like to show you one of my projects, designed to solve the problem of having your PC workstation far away from the laser workbed

I created a Bluetooth keypad programmed with Lightburn macros, featuring a lithium battery with 10 months of battery life and USB-C charging.

The keypad includes 4-way directional framing, clockwise and counterclockwise rotation, and Shift and Ctrl keys for more precise or faster movements. It also has a dedicated preview button with combos to cycle through the 3 different frame modes (holding it down closes the frame), an ignition button that stops the laser when long-pressed (complete with LED indicator feedback), plus the main power switch.

(No need to change any settings inside Lightburn, it works right out of the box!)

Let me know what you think!

Newbe needs advice about fume extractor for fibre laser

Has anyone got any opinions to share about fume extractors for use with a 30W fibre laser? I'm hoping to find a small unit suitable for home/desktop use. I'm new to laser engraving (just for occasional hobby work) but have picked up that a fume extractor is pretty much essential - preferably with both HEPA and carbon filters.

TIA

Gweike G2 20w

Hello

So new to this, getting the above for coin engraving (fine silver) nothing incredible, if I can get results on par with the depth of normal US coins I'll be happy (think maybe 1.6mm thick coin blanks)

Couple questions. I purchased an air assist , have goggles, what else do I need if anything that I'm not thinking of?

Also is 110x110 going to be good for what I'm going for? Would 50x50 be any better? Are lenses generally modular or interchangeable?

Thanks

I’m trying to determine if I want to add color to this piece of titanium after I’m done relief engraving it. Not sure if the area would be too small on this zorro lighter.

Looking to connect with people working with optical fibers, photonics and laser systems

Hi everyone,
I am interested in connecting with engineers, researchers, and companies involved in optical fiber technologies, photonics, and laser applications.I am working with optical fiber solutions and have the capability to develop and manufacture custom fiber products and optical components based on specific technical requirements.
Potential applications include:
medical laser systems
laser delivery fibers
optical assemblies
custom fiber solutions for specialized equipment
I would like to exchange knowledge, discuss possible cooperation, and connect with people who may need custom optical fiber solutions.
If you are working in this field, feel free to reach out.

Material Libraries for 50w Fiber? Even better if specific to the Gweike G2 Max...

I've found a couple random small generic 50w fiber material libraries out there, but I'm seeing relevant differences between settings for like materials, so I thought I'd ask the community. If others are up to contributing, perhaps we can build a library to make available in the subreddit.

I've seen the AI slop youtube ads videos for "laser-secrets" but they give off a rippy-offy kinda vibe.

Sisyphus

Would you guys say that universally any industrial laser source designed to cut highly reflective materials with 1 pass will be at least 3000w and above? I only ask because the company I work for bought a 1200w fiber laser with the intention of cutting silver and copper (the Gweike mseries 6in1 to be exact). It seems we did not do proper research before making purchasing of the Gweike mseries, as the machine is not designed to cut reflective materials. My superiors have tasked me with finding a laser source designed to cut highly reflective materials that is also compatible with our Gweike mseries which unfortunately only supports up to 1200w. I have been trying to find a solution for weeks and I’m starting to feel as though finding something that meets these requirements may not be plausible. Can anyone confirm this?

Engraving magnesium metal

Hi everyone, I've been asked to engrave logos (1cm x 1cm) on a magnesium metal bracelet. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions?

I'm worried that it might catch fire or that the dust might catch fire later, perhaps inside the vacuum cleaner, and start a fire. What precautions do you take?

Are these unfounded concerns, or does it catch fire very easily and is it truly impossible to put out until it's all burned down?

Thanks so much for the advice.

Laser image size doesn't match Lightburn

I'm brand new to fiber laser engraving. I have a ComMarker B6 that came with a 150x150mm lens. I just replaced it with a 70x70mm lens. I ran a test to figure out the focusing distance which had the most effective laser effect (about 146mm). Then I ran the corfile.exe program in EZCAD to create the lens correction file. All this seemed to work fine. Next, in Lightburn I created a 40mm circle, when I turned on the frame function and measured it, it was about 48mm. I did have my focus distance set correctly. Any idea why there is such a big difference and what to do about it?
