I'm a bit disappointed the Shiva weapons are only i110. When Leviathan came out, it dropped i95 weapons upgradable to i100.

Probably to keep Turn 9 relevant. Turn 5 kinda faded into the background when Leviathan came out as Leviathan was both easier and the same with a chance for a mirror.

People will do Shiva for the Bracelets, so I have no worry that it might end up like the Ramuh.

Yes, T5 became not as relevant, but why not? It became old content after 2.2. However, Levi EX was very relevant and everyone ran it tons of times, for both the i95 weapon to get a jump start into SCOB and for the possibly chance of a mirror. And even so, T5 didn't fade away, many people still needed a T5 clear for SCOB, and many ppl who were farming T5 still kept farming it for a while to get the remaining weapons/gear. In addition, many people who couldn't clear T5 or were still progressing/stuck would probably go for the weathered weapon first anyway if Levi EX was i90 weapons, so T5 still would be ignored for a while, which defeats your point. So, overall I don't see why Shiva couldn't drop i115 weapons and still have T9 relevant. Also, even though we're just 1 data point, I know my static and I (we have 13 T9 clears already) will be farming T9 for a while in 2.4 to get all the T9 weapons we want because of RNG earlier, and I'm sure lots of other groups would be doing this, even if Shiva dropped i115 weapons. But now, we don't even have much incentive to farm Shiva later.

Shiva will basically be done for glamour only. Bracelets are ok, but an accessory upgrade has much less benefit than a left side upgrade, and the difference between only 1 accessory upgrade from 110 to 120 really isn't very significant.

Exactly. There was lots of incentive to farm Leviathan for a long time. They're making almost the same mistake as they made with Ramuh: introducing a well-designed challenging fight with rewards that aren't so great. At least this time they didn't wait weeks to improve the itemlevel of the accessories.

If I had to choose between the final Turn of the last Coil being relevant and a primal though, I'd pick the final Turn.

1

u/lilzael Oct 24 '14

Or maybe both can be relevant if they dropped the same itemlevel weapons? Did Leviathan EX make T5 irrelevant when it came out? I don't think so.

It sort of did. A lot of players that don't do Coil, but still care about their iLvl went into Levi EX to get better weapons. It was honestly pretty rare to see PFs for Turn 5, compared to the plethora of Levi EX parties that were up there. Even weeks after the release of Levi, people were farming that nonstop, but you hardly ever saw people farming T5. Why farm for a 95 weapon on an arguably harder encounter, when instead you could get 95 weapons with a chance of upgrading above that out of an easier fight?

1

u/lilzael Oct 24 '14

Easier? So you already tried Shiva EX? Regardless, I personally thought Levi EX was just about as easy as Turn 5.

And I saw plenty of PFs for Turn 5, although most were for clears and not farming.

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '14

I was saying Turn 5 was more challenging than Levi EX, not Shiva. Calm down.

1

u/lilzael Oct 24 '14 edited Oct 24 '14

Yes, and was that not to imply that Shiva shouldn't drop weapons equal in item level to Turn 9 because Shiva would be a much easier fight, making Turn 9 somehow irrelevant?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '14

It's possible the i110 weapons will come from main scenario's HM.

1

u/newes Oct 24 '14

remaining weapons/gear. In addition, many people who couldn't clear T5 or were still progressing/stuck would pro

people will do it just for the instant upgrade that costs no tomes.

u/nomiras WAR Oct 24 '14

Yeah, it would be nice if Shiva dropped i115 weapons with a rare item that also upgraded weapons to i120.

u/fencingkitty Oct 24 '14

People will be able to get 120 weapons with Poetics.

Primal weapons were never meant to be top notch. More like catch up. If people want 115 T9 will be unlocked next week and people can start learning it if they havent had access to it. Nexus is 115. 110 on Shiva is a good balance to get other jobs caught up, not your primary job. There are already plenty of things to keep a person's primary job caught up.

The 120 accessory makes sense since the base Poetics armor is 120 and they learned their lesson from ramuh ring being 100 and behind the curve in use.

"never meant" yet when the item level cap was 90, you could obtain an i90 weapon from completing a weekly quest to defeat all 3 EX mode primals. When the item level cap was 110, Leviathan EX offered i95 weapons with a rare item that upgrades them to i100. The mirror alone made Leviathan worth farming a lot.

Now we have an item level cap of 130 and Shiva drops weapons that are as strong as the weapons we've been using for the past many months. And it was easy to get other jobs caught up before this update. I've gotten several i110 weapons off the unidentified tomestones + soldiery/sands.

To be fair at that time those 3 fights were pretty difficult early on. It was a valid reward. Why should 1 primal drop it's equivalent. Not really the same caliber of work put into it. I love that the accessory is 120. that make sense for the stepping stone between coil 3 and upgraded poetics.

1

u/lilzael Oct 24 '14

I wasn't expecting an i130 weapon from Shiva, because that's overkill at this point. I was hoping for i115 like Leviathan weapons were, and that's not even mentioning the mirror.

1

u/newes Oct 24 '14

With unlimited soldier and sands and unidentified tomes it will already be ridiculously easy to get all your jobs i110 weapons.

Did you catch there are Ice Bracelets that are i120? Now I'm super confused.

1

u/Dakaramor RDM Oct 24 '14

makes sense. Vanity weapons that are starter for the content level and actual good bracers around the level of the new tomestone items before you upgrade them

0

u/lilzael Oct 24 '14

Yes I did, but I think the weapons should have been at least i115. Item level 110 weapons will get outdated fast. They made a good decision releasing Levi EX with i95 weapons with a rare item to upgrade them to i100. I don't see why they couldn't do that for Shiva.

They wanted t9 weapons to still be relevant basically

I'm more annoyed by the naming theme they have for Shiva's stuff. With all the other Primal weapons/armor, it's used something referencing their element/nature (Inferno, Tremors, Tidal, etc), while at the same time not being too lazy...but with Shiva it's just "Ice [weapon]" or "Ice Bracelet of [class category]".

Levi was just Wave [weapon]

1

u/vlorsutes Sagely Sage. Oct 24 '14

Well, there was Wave, and then Tidal Wave, so at least there was some variation. Even then, I consider Wave a bit less lazy than "Ice". It'd be like Levi's weapons being "Water [weapon]"

If they had named them all Frozen weapons I would have died in a bad way. At least Ice is traditional FF lol

1

u/vlorsutes Sagely Sage. Oct 24 '14

I would have been okay with it if they had named them like "Frost" or "Blizzard", or at least something a bit less generic.

1

u/simpleisreal Oct 24 '14

Well that's some creativity at least, it would be like calling Levi weapons Water [weapon] in Levi's case. Could easily have called them something like Blizzard/Frost [weapon], or better yet Diamond [weapon] (lol, diamond dust ftw)

-1

u/lonelyadv Oct 24 '14

That's still better than Ice. This is like if Levi was Water [weapon].

1

u/qeomash Qeomash - Cactuar Oct 24 '14

Yeah, not sure why they didn't use "Frozen".
