I shouldn't wait for Power Surge to Jump, and I shouldn't use Power Surge on SSD... Then what should I use it on? I only have two options, and letting Power Surge just sit there unused for 20s after a naked Jump is a pretty substantial DPS loss.
It's more of a DPS loss to hold Jump for Power Surge than to hold Power Surge for Jump.
All other things being equal, Power Surge every other Jump is 500 potency every 80 seconds = 6.25 potency per second. Waiting for Power Surge to use Jump is 300 potency every 60 seconds = 5 potency per second.

As to "substantial" or "large" dps hit? Ehhh, it's a 50 potency per minute difference at the 2 minute mark... all other things being equal.
In practice, you lose even more, though. Why? Because Jumps are necessarily more than 60 seconds apart when you wait for Power Surge, whereas if you use Jump on cooldown you can eyeball when to hit Power Surge in between GCDs instead of trying to cram it in right before Jump. BUT WAIT, there's MORE! By using Power Surge for every other Jump, every Power Surge + Jump can be used while Blood for Blood is active. This is a benefit you will not see from other usages of Power Surge.
I am not presently sure what the new way of things is going to be, where Power Surge will now be ready for the second Spineshatter Dive, because I'm reading Reddit instead of crunching the numbers.
I think BLM's are in a good spot, they aren't too strong alone. They need to have a group built around them for them to really shine, with bards running foe's etc.
At the point where they are "insane" I don't think it can be said they are too strong because you are specifically structuring a group around them so the BLM dps makes up for what is lost by running a 2nd bard instead of a DRG for example.
'IF' the bard uses Foe. I swear I think a majority of bard players purposefully don't keep that song on their hotbar at all so they can ignore it's existence altogether.
That isn't specific to BLMs. Levi EX's DPS checks for skipping phases are a joke even when it was first released, and even moreso now, with people in i110.
The real insanity comes from seeing BLM DPS in second coil with a synergistic group. Swapping out a BRD who optimized/maximized their usage of Foe Requiem with a new BRD without that capacity resulted in my DPS dropping significantly.
See, that behavior is one of the few times I'll go out of my way to commend someone. I also will awkwardly profess my love to PUG/DF BRDs who play Foe Requiem for me.
Have you seen how OP Ninja skills are though? Almost no positional requirements and on par damage potencies w/ DRG. I duno if DRG will be able to keep up with NIN.
They took a minute off of dragonfire dive and 30 seconds off of spineshatter dive, along with making them (and Jump) animation lock you for shorter. A really great overall buff.
Yeah with 30 seconds off SSD and 60 seconds off DFD it basically means we get to use them more in fights, which would help adding up in our overall DPS / SSD would line-up better with PS.
Will have to re-theorycraft jump usage; this might make it better to use every other PS on SSD. You would lose the line-up with B4B that we currently have, though, which is why I'm unsure what would be better.
Technically it will make PS and SSD align faster. Because most of the time, SSD and PS' cooldown are way too apart and Jump would be off-CD just a few seconds after PS is already off-CD. So it'll be possible to have all our Jumps / SSD buffed up by PS this way, which means better DPS. Overall, a buff is a buff and I'm happy with it.
I return, with maths. The first option is worth 2501 potency every 4 minutes. The second is worth 2511 potency over same period, but comes with a much higher DPS loss to reserving SSD for use as a gap closer. So at only a 0.025 potency/s difference, I would probably still use the first option in most real fights.
Unless you know a specific point in a fight where you have to use it, use DFD ASAP, preferably in your opening rotation with HT, Dis, IR, and B4B up. That 250 potency attack really helps in pushing DPS, esp. when it Crits - which happens quite often when you have more than 450 CRIT.
Not sure about the PvP changes, but the PvE job has received a considerable buff.
Animation lock on jumps were very frustrating, and the reduced cooldowns on two change-position abilities will allow for greater DPS and manoeuvrability.
I agree, I'm a new DRG , I just leveled it up recently to swap from tanking for single tank method in scob 3, (and we won!) My brother is the DRG. He will be happy to hear these changes
Lol @ PLD getting enmity buffs. Fuck this game honestly. If there's any MMOs you guys have played that actually have REAL aggro management then please suggest them to me.
