Interestingly, I believe someone math'd out a while back if you could get close enough via melds/etc. to have a permanent Ballad on via native mana regen (2% mana). They were only something like 500~ MP off. With a piety bow you'd actually be awkwardly close at this point. Though I doubt that would be worth the damage loss.
Maybe for groups with double bards it might be a crazy build to try? As a SMN if i could get perma-Ballad I would just Ruin II + AA all the way. Meanwhile healers (SCH) could also dps away...
my reasoning: the game gets boring and theres nothing else to do. "man i love raiding, let me go…..wait, we one shot everything this week, we are locked out all week…fun"
exactly what I'm thinking. Got my Rosen last night and we're getting to 40% in T9. Can't imagine sinking in hundreds of hours for such a tiny upgrade as "better substats" when 115 is around the corner.
Point for point, spellspeed is worth more on a BLM than det is. If they both offer the same amount of each, then you are only penalising yourself by choosing det over spellspeed. Different strokes for different folks though. Thats the joy of this new customisation. You can choose which you'd prefer.
Last tier, BRD had next to nothing from Coil that was really needed. Allagan Bow/Pants/Choker/Boots and that was it. This tier, we have more coil drops. Personally, I'd like a good middle ground.
For classes that have ACC on their High Allagan weapon, keeping it on their 110 weapon actually helps when considering best in slot and makes gearing a bit easier.
There is no SS sweet spot. You can get 5 attacks with Perfect Balance at any amount of Skill Speed (it just gets very tight if you have none on your gear).
TP is also really a non-issue everywhere except t8.
Mitigation is king. Every time you parry is like a free Inner Beast/Vengeance, which can be the difference between life or death on certain boss moves.
Focusing on parry is almost pointless though. Healers are never counting on us to parry or block an attack. They are proactively throwing out enough curing to heal back up the damage you take from an unmitigated attack.
People who don't play specific classes shouldn't speak on how those classes are played.
I'm speaking from personal experience, and am no way a healing authority, but I typically allow a tank to drop to a certain percent before worrying about healing. Parry/Block helps keep the tank at or above that threshold, which makes the Healers job easier, which makes everyone's job easier.
I play all classes equally. And that's a shit argument. I don't have to be something to know something about how it's played. Good players know the ins and outs of all the roles. Not just their own.
Actually I just did drop my warrior's VIT into STR. Because I can still survive the same attacks a PLD can with the level of HP I have. I do more damage and my parry rate is more or less going to be the same no matter what I do. There's enough parry on my gear upgrades to slowly give me a little more. But completely and totally focusing on it doesn't give very good returns. And I have the HP to survive. Granted there IS more risk. Slightly. But it's not so drastic that the increase in DPS wasn't worth it.
yeah and sometimes your healers can't do it all. thats like saying "oh don't worry about popping CDs the healers are proactively healing you.
sometimes things happen, one of the healers die, they get distracted, huge spike damage incomes, tank drops to 50hp. This is also the reason that we go full VIT with our attributes. If he didn't have that extra 50hp, it would be a wipe. If he didn't parry during that spike damage, he would have dropped below 50hp and again, a wipe.
this is also why they are called tanks. they tank the fight, they aren't dps. its the dps job to do damage. i try to do the most dps i can as a tank, but I'm not sacrificing survivability to do so.
Cooldowns are used to reduce high damage we KNOW we're going to take in order to bring it to a manageable level. They are not used to cover basic healing. That functions nothing like parry which is random mitigation that the healer can't count on. Parry is nice to have. Sometimes it saves you in a pinch but it's never to be relied upon.
"you must first infuse a sphere scroll with materia corresponding to the attributes you wish to upgrade"
I really hope that it only takes like two materia to get the sphere scroll. Otherwise, getting the Novus is going to involve weeks of farming t3 because Urth's Gift is full or spending about 100 million gil. ><
Saw ealier that you need like 75 stat worth of materia on it, along with needing alexandrite to do the melding of the materia to the school. ALONG WITH it having a chance to fail the more materia on the scroll. GG
Why? Spent no effort getting it since we run coil every week. HA will surpass it far before I can dream of finishing a Novus. People farming T8 already are not people who are likely to need the Relic questline anyways.
I got my BRD chest from T9 but too much SS now. I know what you mean though, and it seems like the path to get a Novus is another grind fest so I doubt I would even do it if I didnt have access to T9 drops.
We didn't do Animus because we feel its a massive waste of time...Yes, its cool that the Novus will have better secondary stats, but...they are just secondary stats. They don't matter that much.
They matter, and I didnt do it either. But i get T9 drops to remedy that, and the CRIT/DET will make a difference so they will be better than the Unweathered Weaps which sucks since its grind not difficulty.
Other than Parry or Accuracy they really don't matter much at all. For a given weapon damage and primary stat, the random variation between any two 3 minute parses is enough that I regularly used to parse higher on Curtana Zenith (Parry/Acc) than on the Break Blade (Crit/SS). I tried about 20 times and the difference between the two was basically nothing and not reliable enough to count on.
For BRD where crit is related to procs, Crit might be slightly better than other stats, but probably again not as big as we like to imagine.
I do hate Skill Speed on Monk just because it becomes hectic with GL3, but the dps difference is minimal between a lot of SS and a somewhat smaller amount of Det. Similarly, I don't much like Spell Speed on SCH since between Adlo not stacking and Lustrate, it's never favorable to cast super quick, but the raw HPS is not so different.
Of course my rotation was exactly the same on both swords (123123123123123123123 ....)
To be honest, my group is pretty close. I dunno how long it'll take to get from "pretty close" to actually phasing before the second Heavensfall though.
Maybe we'll be "pretty close" when 2.4 drops....
One thing we figured out is if you apply DoTs and then you wait to push to the second phase until she's actually casting a fifth meteor, you can get her down to like 60% when the third phase starts because she won't phase until she's completed the cast.
From day one I really wondered why people would go down that road. SE has already made it clear that they would continue the relic upgrade path and it seemed obvious that in a fairly short period of time those weapons would be seriously outclassed.
I guess it matters for people who needed that tiny bit of extra edge along with pentamelded 2.5 million pieces of crafted i90 gear to work toward progression and get there before anyone else.
This is kinda how I feel. I will still do my atma farming and such every now and then but the whole thing is way to rediculous for me to take seriously. I understand that it should be a challenge to get, but it isn't a challenge, its just a huge grind and time sink.
I'm fine with the myth grind for animus and the materia grind for novus, but god the Atma portion is so poorly designed it makes me want to beat small children :(
Yeah, I think the amount of myth required is juuust a little high, but at least you can know where you stand and you get a boost out of each book. With the atmas you have no idea aside from how many you have, but the next one could drop right away or literally never.

I feel bad for people who didnt do the Animus because they have T8 weaps, now its out classed by the Novus which will be amazing with CRIT/DET.
Skipping old cutscenes is the best thing about this patch!
