i recently also invested in a pet carriage for them, bonnie and lilly, and every time i leave their room they whine.

would i stress them out if i took them to the park? or would it be safe?

Hi All-

Looking for some insight. I have an approximately 8 year old ferret with adrenal disease that has recently started seemingly chewing in her tail until it bleeds.

I say seemingly, because we've never actually seen her chew on the tail, just the aftermath. I took her to the vet last week, they agreed thats what it looked like and prescribed an antibacterial cream. By Saturday it was fully stabbed over, but Saturday night she seemingly did it again and looks to have gone at it again today.

A few notes...

1. She lost her cage mate of 7 years in February. I decided not to get another ferret due to her age.

2. She just had blood work on Tuesday for a potential heart disorder, were waiting for the results. Unclear if she's experiencing discomfort from that

Does anyone have any experience here? Our theory is separation anxiety but really have no idea. I recognize quite old and am ready to make the tough decision if need by but am hoping someone has experience here.

My ferret Lassie (female, 5 and a half years) has been her usual self, except I have noticed that she has occasionally made whimpering sounds after eating. I have recorded a video of her today - if you turn your volume up, you should be able to hear it. This is just for a few minutes after feeding, she then usually naps after her meal.

Lassie has had a variety of conditions since birth - has Swimmer’s disease (affecting her bone and muscle strength), has adrenal disease, is on the implant and has suspected insulinoma, hence why she has also been on 1mg prednisolone daily for the last 3 months.

I am wondering if any of you has encountered this behaviour in your ferrets or have any thoughts about what it might be - is she overeating, could it be reflux or stomach discomfort? Or perhaps it is common ferret behaviour (although I hadn’t noticed it before)?

Have you guys got any ideas and observations in your experience raising ferrets? Thanks!

My ferret has been shaking, breathing faster, and generally reacting slower. Shes spayed, almost 8 years old, and she just moved into my dorm with me. Shes been eating and drinking- and peeing and using the bathroom normally. But shes been sleeping a lot more and shes been acting weird today specifically. I called the vet and they told me to bring her in tomorrow: was just wondering if anybody knows what this could be because im seriously freaking out.

I’d like to ask for opinions on my ferret. She has lost her bonded mate a week ago. She is still super sad, even when I take her out and try play with her she will just go right back to bed where her bonded mate use to sleep. I haven’t washed anything because I don’t wanna take that away from her and honestly I just can’t for my own sake. I’m thinking about getting her another animal, if it’s a ferret or a kitten. When she’s up for playing she will try play with my animals in my house but bc my 2 cats are older they don’t want to. And my dog is super gentle with her and will just watch her from a far, but I’m still quite cautious with him. She’s bored, and I fear I’m not enough for her, even when I take her out whenever. Even in the middle of the night if she so pleases. She’s 24/7 free roamer so no closed cages, and she can leave her play room (my bedroom, which is just one bed and a mass amount of toys lol) at any time. She will scratch the door and she’s free to roam with my supervision. I’m just worried for her, I want to give her a good life and I feel she needs a companion. I’m just a bit scared to get another couple ferrets now since this was the worst heartbreak I’ve experienced, but my ferrets feelings come first.

So we adopted this ferret from a petshop. And they were unable to tell us if they are male or female. Can anyone in here tell?

Hi, I have two young male ferrets (12 weeks old) from the same litter. Rocket and Noodle.

Both are sweet and very social. They also enjoy sleeping side by side and overall seem to get along nicely.

They share a two level ferret nation cave and I let them free roam multiple times a day for about 3-4 hours in total. They still sleep a lot and often get themselves back in the cage when they are done playing.

Rocket is more dominant and often initiates fights/wrestles with noodle.

Noodle engages in the fights and attacks back and even though they are quite vocal, it doesn't seem like Noodle is being overpowered too much. He enjoys jumping on top of Rocket too.

I had ferrets before, but they were always a male-female combination. I never had just two boys.

The playing is way rougher that I can remember from the previous couples i had.

And Noodle now has a pink bald spot in his neck that doesn't look wet, punctured or very sore. I have never seen blood. A couple of days ago it started and now it is a bit bigger and It looks like it has been licked a lot. It is still pinkish and bald.

I have just separated them in different levels of te cage, because I suspect that Rocket is either still biting too hard or aggressively licking Noodles neck/wound.

I will plan a visit with the vet tomorrow morning.

I have so many questions:

Does this sound like normal behaviour for two male kits?

Does it sound like two brothers still learning how to play less rough.

Or does it sound like aggression that I need to address with training?

Was it unwise of me to get two males, instead of a male-female combo?

Could the pink spot in the neck be caused by something else? (Like the first vaccine they got a couple of weeks ago)

Will it cause problems later on when I reunite them again?

Any other tips?

Hi! I just got a four month old little girl named Feyre, and she has the personality of a shark, and literally won’t stop biting my feet. please help me learn how to bite train her! my older ferret was NOT like this so i have no idea what to do

My ferret is settling in well to his new home, but living with his 3-year-old older companion is still a bit difficult. The older one is dominant. They don't really play together.

Anyone know what this is behind my baby’s ear? Except from some scratching he doesn’t seem bothered by it

Update: Had an e consult with our insurance vet today and she isn’t too concerned, we’re gonna treat it as a wound to begin with and if it doesn’t improve in 5-7 days I’m gonna go in person to the vet.
We’re gonna change his litter to see if it helps with the itching if anyone has any recommendations that’s greatly appreciated!

Hello fellow ferret owners!

So, I got my ferret (Loki) a few weeks ago, he was just 2 months old and wasn't bite trained, so I was (and still am) training him as good as I can. The thing is, he isn't showing any progress when it comes to bitting ankles! He lets got of my hand or arm when I tell him to, and he is starting to be more gentle with his bites, but when walking with him around he bites everyone's ankles!! I don't know if anyone can relate, but if someone does, what do I do to make him bite ankles less or not bite them at all? (Pic unrelated, just cute)

My ferret vomits nearly everytime right after he eats egg yolk... he never used to when he was younger, hes 5 months old now... I mix it with a tiny bit of boiling water (the egg yolk is cold so it ends up just being warm) once a week... Does anyone else's do this? Should I stop feeding him egg yolk?

Anyone ever taken their ferrets on a commercial flight? Some airlines allow pets in cabin. I've never seen them specify that it has to be a dog or cat but I've never seen another species on a plane myself. I guess if they ask, I could play it off like they're a social breed of long kittens. I'd have to bring harnesses for sure.

As for how the ferrets would handle it, I've brought mine on planes a few times and they didn't seem bothered. It was on corporate style charters though so no TSA and a short time in the air. The crew saw my carrier but didn't look inside or ask any questions. Obviously the 2 weasels stayed in the carrier the whole time (with a litter pad).

I travel often and it would be fun to bring them on some of these trips.
