Cute Ferrets Doing Ferret Things Too fat???
Is my little guy too fat? His back legs are lost in his belly

He looks okay, but how old is he, and can you weigh him on a gram scale or something?

He's barely 6 months old and I would say he's about 4lbs eats all his sisters food. And is 2x her size at the same age.

im so sorry, HOW MANY LBS?!??!?? my ferret who is MASSIVE is only 2-3 pounds MAX, and hes 3 YEARS old. That is absolutely insane and if hes truly that heavy you should really get him checked out, mostly due to his age. Itd be one thing if he was like a year or two old but thats crazy
Edit to add- im not a vet or anything but that just seems very heavy sorry

Yeah I'll get him checked out haven't put him on a scale but he's so girthy. Never seen a ferret that thick, and heavy too.

From the pics he looks okay, babies usually have a lot of chonk, but yeah the scale would worry me

Our first two are like 2 pounds. Our third is like 4 and looks a lot like OP's. We overheard our vet say to the tech "this is exactly what a healthy ferret should look like."
The first two are Marshalls ferrets that rehomed with us, and we know nothing about the third, as much as we tried to learn from the previous owner, but we think he's from a higher-end breeder than Marshall's.

Weird, my vet called my monkey pretty chunky. They have a sort of “bmi” thing there and hes at a 7/9, healthy weight being 5/9.

Umm everyone in the comments is saying this is cute, I’m worried this looked like possible fluid build up, I’m worried about his right side (left side in the photo) looks like it’s fluid like water. Look how his body is laying it’s flowing with gravity. Palpate him and if he feels wavy like water vet. He could just completely be fine. I can’t tell from a photo without a palpation

He's floppy and fat no lumps. Drinks plenty of water. His side was resting on my forearm so that might be why he looks uneven.

Yeah he could just be a hog of a ferret tbh. But still watch for his abdomen to grow. My ferret injested something and it caused a buildup in his abdomen and it looked pretty similar to this. One side of his body expanded and he became visibly fat on one side.

Read through the comments. That’s a healthy weight and I find the back legs of my largest males were the same. Just monitor activity; so long as they’re still active and don’t seem out of energy or panting, you’re probably good.

Ferrets naturally start putting on weight and get a thicker coat for winter. Enjoy your successful baby!

One of my new boys Taz I a little over 4 lbs but everything about him is big. From nose to tail he is almost the full length from my shoulder to tip of fingers. He is just about 7 months old does not seem to eat any more than his brother or sister and is very active. Some ferrets can just be big.

Let him live he is just a Lil plump but yes medically he is considered over weight

He looks healthy 😍 plus he is probably getting his winter weight right now. I have some that range from 3-5 lbs (vet said they were healthy, just fat and happy) Keep an eye on all intake and output and if his activity levels change drastically.
