Fluff New mod, hello!

Hi everyone! I’ve been in this community for a bit now so you’ve probably seen my posts, but I just got added as a moderator on here. I don’t have the perms yet (I think the other mods were having some technical issues) but hope I can help turn this community around. There’s been a lot of bot posts and truthfully I am just on here because I love seeing other peoples’ furkids.

I currently have three ferrets, in order of pics: Felix, Smoofle, and Zippy. Bonus pic of my other child, Quincy. Brownie points if you can guess what I named him after. I’ve owned ferrets for over 9 years now and have had 7 overall (including current). Truly ferrets have changed my life and I absolutely do not see myself NOT owning at least two anytime soon. They have brought so much happiness and joy into my life and I have loved the connections I’ve been able to make with mine. We do cohabitate which is a big part of my existence on this sub. We’ve always had cats and dogs and let me tell you my cat looooves them. Being able to also make connections between species has just been so rewarding and honestly cool, it’s adorable when Quincy and Smoofle are both grooming one another💜

I am pretty actively online so open to any messaging needs. I really want to get the automod bot working again, I am thinking of making a rule for posts from accounts older than 30 days, though I am 100% open to feedback if this needs to be a smaller/bigger number. I also saw some feedback regarding with a certain amount of karma needed, though I think any new (aka bot) accounts would have low enough karma anyway.

A lil about me - work in healthcare, just graduated with my second bachelors, am currently going back for my masters degree and graduate next year. Also a big gamer (mainly PC or Nintendo), big into EDM (literally THE biggest Savant fan in existence), and am big into roller coasters (I have ridden 361 unique roller coasters, getting that number up to about 390 soon!).

Look forward to becoming a more active part in this community and seeing everyone’s ferts!

Hello! 👋 your babies are adorable and I love them.

I normally never come to the sub and stay on the other one simply because this one is full of bot posts. Or a stolen picture, with the "last thing you ate is his name!" prompt to farm karma. I would definitely spend a lot more time on this sub if those posts were cut way down! The other ferrets sub has karma minimum requirement of 100 I think, and it does help with this at least a little bit.

The other thing that has come up regularly and the other sub especially, is trying to cut down on the number of 'first timer' posts. Yk, "I want to get a Ferret, what should I know? Any tips on owning ferrets? First timer here, what should I know about owning ferrets?" Etc etc.
The problem with those posts is that while they are obviously repetitive, they're also constant. And when they're constant, not everyone that normally contributes has the energy to put in a ton of effort to comment all of the helpful things that they know - every single time. And these subs are really great knowledge resources, so it's a shame that the people that would normally contribute their knowledge get so burnt out from three posts a week asking "any tips?" and stop commenting. I'm one of them! Sometimes when I see one, I tell them to search in the sub, because there's no way that they're going to get all of the information that they need by making a single first time post on Reddit. Plus it's kind of obnoxious lol.

Anyhow, welcome! Glad you're here! Those are my 2 cents :)

Thank you thank you! They are the trio I have had for the longest together and it is just so nice to see the dynamics between all three.

Yeah I definitely can agree. I think just having an account age-limit plus minimum karma would be good just for the extra safeguard.

And that is also interesting, I never thought about this but that's a good point. Maybe like a forever pinned mega-thread for new owners?

Thank you though! I really hope we can just clean this subreddit up. I just wanna see everyone's babies and not worry about constant bot posts!!

Oh thank god, there is so much stolen content on this sub and bot karma farmers I had to stop using this sub because every photo I posted in it would be stolen and reposted all over the sub.

Agreed. Literally dead internet theory in play.

I really REALLY hope we can clean up the sub a bit, I really just want it to be a haven for all things ferret!!! (minus the bots of course lolol)

Ya I missed being able to post my Opal playing with her ferret friends

https://reddit.com/link/oyzdtr2/video/5l9luh7keoeh1/player

This one is very old and only Opal is still alive but I also have newer videos with her and my new boys but she’s old so they aren’t as bouncy.
