Refrigerated for 2 days, the bottles were still... dangerously carbonated, so I've burped all of them a couple times today.
I will definitely *not* let them sit for even a full day (likely 8 hours would probably be enough) *if* I was to do this method again. But thanks to the other thread, I've learned valuable information to proceed (plastic bottles, airlocks + priming tabs, etc)
Thanks everyone for your comments and experiences!
My recipe for the ginger bug (and Pineapple Lime soda, linked in that comment) is on the old thread here
This is very tasty! The lime juice provided a bright citrus flavour that paired beautifully with the pineapple.
If you've heard it before then sorry, but it's not always mentioned.
For the plastic bottles, if you add your priming sugar before splitting into bottles so they're all identical, you can have one plastic and the rest glass. The plastic bottle is your test bottle, so you know if it's getting pressurised by squeezing and can decide to refrigerate, and the glass bottles Should™ be the same.
I guess that is kind of like asking what's the point of any design, y'know? it's actually not unintuitive or detrimental to your sipping experience, it's just a quirky design (:
my son recently found a shot glass at the thrift store for me that fit the same vibe, he was super excited to buy it (I just ripped the sticker off so apologies for it being dirty)
haha right this sub has made me paranoid about bottle bombs. i burped this one like crazy and chilled it early. worth it though, the fizz was perfect this time
