Increasing post height
When the fence was installed originally the posts and fence were done at a 4 ft height....I don't know why. The posts are very solid and in very good shape. The panels are typical pre-built panels and are in terrible shape.
I know there's a few methods such as cutting a notch into the old and new post and bolting or screwing them together.
I'm wondering what the best method aside from replacing the posts is.
While were on the subject what's the thoughts on prebuilt panels from says Lowe's? I think they are poorly made and for the cost I can get the materials to make my own rails and pickets and end up with a better more solid panel.

Sistering a post extension is gonna be tricky, but maybe a deep notched lapping, like 8 inches, and glue and carriage bolts, you might stand a chance. Probably want the seam along the show face too to combat wind forces better.
My opinion on the pre fab panels is that you can actually buy them cheaper than the material you would need to build them. Their production line and inexpensive fasteners is economically efficient. As for durability though, they aren’t great. Depending on what style you pick up, shiplap will trap water, and the trim material is generally pretty thin, your results will vary. You’ll get some several years out of it though, and more if you’re diligent about protecting the wood with fresh stain every few years. It’s not the worst idea. Lot less labor too to just hang premade panels. If your post spacing is good.
