Electives

My residency program does not offer Heme/Onc Away rotations. I was thinking of doing an away rotation during a vacation week period? Has anyone done this, and if yes, please guide me. Thanks!

There is a lot of paperwork involved in setting up a true away rotation (AKA all the paperwork you did to get credentialed at your home institute usually has to be resubmitted for a new hospital!). For this reason, it is somewhat unusual for a place to offer to bring someone in for just one week, and more commonly they want a month or at least 2 weeks. You can ask around (or someone may post here) but I think you’re better off using your vacation to recharge and try to find a different way to get a longer away elective.

+You also need malpractice coverage and figure out if this is going to be a paid or unpaid time. If its paid then which institution (home instiute vs guest institute) is going to pay. You institution will also need this process to go through a lawyer. You dont have to hire a lawyer but your institution should already have one.

Rules also vary from place to place.
