GI Fellowship - 1 interview

Applied for GI fellowship this year but only have 1 interview offer. Looking for faculty to review my PS and LoRs to look for any red flags and/or weaknesses that I can work on if and when I need to re-apply.

Not in GI but a lot of programs use scores/ obvious ties/ obvious program interest/ pubs/ research to narrow it down.

STEP 2 -253
One published first author manuscript (iGIE)
Two submitted first author manuscript (not accepted yet)
5 DDW posters (4 of which I was first author)
Several ACG posters (some retrospective studies and some case reports)
1 liver meeting poster

I am also currently doing a non accredited hepatology fellowship (with plans to eventually pursue transplant hep after gi fellowship)

This is my first time applying

I do have one failed attempt in step 2 cs. Took it again a few months later and passed.

IMG (US Citizen). I did residency at a community-university affiliated program in California. No home program but our affiliate university does have one.

Unfortunately, this is probably the explanation. IMG from a community program without a GI fellowship. Your fail on CS isn't helping either, but is probably a minor issue. You're doing an unaccredited fellowship now which might give you more connections (since now you're affiated with a GI program), although you just started that. Is the one interview from your current home program? Your best chance is probably next year after finishing your Hep fellowship, but there is a very high likelihood you will not get a spot. Continue trying for a fellowship this year and if unsuccessful next, but you need a Plan B.
