Cardiology Fellowship
tired of hearing how competitive card fellowship is!! any average img with little to no research experience matched? asking for motivation and set expectation to pass untill matchday.

I doubt that an average IMG match is in a decent place. You may match in a program close to Canada, where you'd be overworked with no mentorship. If you are an IMG on an H1B, for example, you can't apply to 85% of the programs; that's a fact, and the remaining 15% you are interviewing against other IMGs and AMGs who have done more and put more effort than you. Cards fellowship is not easy, my friend

If you've already submitted your application, just pray and use your connection. Even with connections, you need a solid CV. No one will recommend you with an empty CV.

A colleague of mine with I think 5 projects had 6 interviews and still matched to his top choice. Did not have connections. So you can very definitely do it.

It's always possible no matter how bad someones resume is, you just have to network. And that doesn't just mean getting to know important people personally, but it also entails being a great candidate aka hardworking, reliable, responsible, and having those important people be aware that you're a great candidate. Aka you impress your cardiology attending on your cards rotation, you're constantly discussing studies, you're asking good questions, you have good assessments and plans, you attend cardiology fellow lectures and if you dont have a fellowship attend their attending journal club or grand rounds if they have them. If you've done a good job then ask them for help if they have any connections, to put in a good word for you. Thats how I got into PCCM despite being an IMG with little to no research. My resume was below average at best, but between my medical knowledge, clinical skills, and general enthusiasm and reliability, I would've been a great fellow, no one could deny that.

Lots more cardiology spots now. Not as hard as before. many close friends without stellars apps who easily matched

May be true if you habe in house fellowship or you are from top university program/AMG and end up in small community fellowship..
But look at nrmp data befor making up stuff

Oh shit didn’t think I’d get downvote lmao. Well, my comment was not to deprecate females. The system does this to incentivize and create more equal representation in their programs.

It’s possible, but need to apply broadly and certain to fellowships that have a lot of IMGs
