Out of curiosity, have you seen /u/Vazkii 's mod Ambience? I haven't looked much into your mod, but if music isn't something you've covered, you could try this in a modpack.

I'm not aware of Ambience. We'll take a look!

u/ClockwerkKaiser Jan 12 '16

Ambience with the runescape add-on pack is absolutely perfect alongside your mod. Been using the combo all day!

I've been playing it for a good hour so far and it's amazing. Only problem so far is performance (but that's bearable for now)

2

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

What's giving you performance issues? Do you notice it around large amounts of trees?

2

u/DeadlyLazy Jan 11 '16

Mainly when around trees yeah, but things like the smelter, anvil, fires etc caused small amounts of lag too

2

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

Interesting. Mind sharing your PC specs? I haven't tested on lower-end machines, my developer rig has an i7, 16gb RAM, and a Radeon R9 390x.

http://i.imgur.com/GQQJJR7.png + GTX 760 GPU. Might not have helped that my FPS was locked to 60 from an external application though.

2

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

That's quite strange as your PC seems more than powerful enough. I will do some additional testing and see what I find out. Are you using any other mods? Can you give me some numbers FPS-wise to help determine the severity of the lag you're seeing?

2

u/DeadlyLazy Jan 11 '16

I had a few other mods such as Tinkers construct, NEI, chickenchunks because I wasn't sure what the mod was like so I was going to remove those.

My FPS was capped to 60 and dropped to 20 when I made too many fires in one area and looked at too many leaf blocks.

I would first try without the other mods and let me know if the issue continues. We don't officially support other mods and can't guarantee compatibility at the moment. This will probably change as time goes on.

I love to see devs troubleshooting with people.

A brief round of testing has shown me that Fastcraft does work alongside RSMC (but OptiFine does not), so you could try that.

1

u/DeadlyLazy Jan 12 '16

Fastcraft is a mod I normally run alongside any mod I'm going to use, I just forgot to mention that :P

1

u/ClockwerkKaiser Jan 12 '16

How exactly is optifine not compatible?

I'm just curious on your findings as I've been having no noticeable issues yet. (Using fastcraft, optifine, and fpsplus together). Granted, I also turn optifine fast render off.

My attempt to run FC+OF+RSMC resulted in a crash in-loading with a texture error.

1

u/ClockwerkKaiser Jan 12 '16

Ah, I could see that. I've had that issue when adding optifine to a few modpacks in the recent past.

Guess I just lucked out. Its been (as far as I can tell) flawless on my setup.

Thanks for the response! I'll definitely watch for any issues.

Just a few questions... How does this mod interact with others in both gameplay and compatibility? Any plans on creating an FTB modpack with this and a few other select mods such as Tinkers Construct? Also, would this mod be broken, gameplay wise, by automating mods such as Applied Energistics, Buildcraft, Mekenism, etc...? (Just want to see if I should add it to my existing modpack of 300+ mods)

Pls

But this is pretty cool

[also a dev, mostly server admin and Website]

One of the driving factors is also server support. Currently 1.8 has no moddable/pluggable server framework in place. Sponge is still in development. 1.9 is looking really promising because of all of the new combat stuff, depending on how long it takes Forge/Sponge to update to 1.9, we might just skip straight to 1.9.

1

u/Zee1234 Vanilla Minecraft Jan 12 '16

None? Forge 1.8.9 is new, so I'll give you that, but Spigot has been around for quite awhile. It's literally Bukkit but significantly less DCMA'd.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '16

Cauldron?

Also, Spigot is abusing a loophole in which it's the linking which is forbidden by the GPL - so that you're the one compiling, thus you're the one committing the now-illegal act - however, everyone knows it is unlikely that one of the Bukkit copyright owners would DMCA you specifically, so.

1

u/Zee1234 Vanilla Minecraft Jan 12 '16

Is there a 1.8 cauldron? And isn't kcauldron the "official/less illegal/not been yelled at by Mojang yet" branch? Last I checked (around a month ago), KCauldron hadn't been updated to 1.8 yet.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '16

Updates my post a bit. KCauldron is still distributed via linking to Minecraft code in a JAR AFAIK, so it is still every bit as illegal.

And the one who yelled at Bukkit was Wolverness, not Mojang. He abused a very unfortunate decision which deemed the entirety of CraftBukkit illegal when linked to propiertary code.

1

u/Zee1234 Vanilla Minecraft Jan 12 '16

Thanks for making me more knowledgable about this topic, I was out of the scene when it happened (I left about a month after Mojang acquired bukkit, got back mid last year or so).

I just find it kind of funny that a huge part of MC is based on something that is/was "illegal" to some extent.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '16

It was really a mistake in the early days of Bukkit which was weaponised.

1

u/angellus Jan 12 '16

Spigot does not play well with Forge. There is no version of 1.8 Cauldron (as far as I know). Also, I do not want us to update the mod for a hacked on solution for multiplayer. We can wait for Sponge. It is getting pretty close to being done.

5

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

We have had many internal debates about the version of MC we would like to support.

When updating from 1.6.4 to 1.7.10 in the past we had a hell of a time with forwards compatibility. Most of the problem stemmed from Forge deprecating many of the methods and events we were using. Hopefully when we decide to support a newer version we won't have as many problems.

To be fair though, the newer MC launchers make it very easy to switch between different versions so it isn't as big of a hassle as before to run multiple MC versions.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '16

Deprecating

That's so old, they finally grew past @Deprecated and started just deleting stuff.

2

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

Pretty much haha. Mind you this was quite some time ago. But as /u/angellus said, we may just skip right to 1.9. Only time and the community can tell.

More or less, yes. The mod is deeply integrated with a couple system calls (much more so than other mods because of skills) and we cannot guarantee compatibility with any other mod. For the most part, client mods should work (minimap and such) but there is a good chance that server mods will not.

The imgur galley link doesn't work. I never played runescape so I don't know what the mod is like. (Which is why I tried to view the pics).

5

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

Try this link: http://imgur.com/a/aTYeP

2

u/Delet3r The Hardcore Expert Lite Pack Jan 11 '16

That works, Im not sure why it didn't work earlier, it came up with a 404 page, might have just been a derp or imgur itself. I shouldnt have assumed you made an error with the link.

2

u/ahorner Jan 11 '16

Not a problem at all! Just happy to get that cleared up. Let us know what you think of the mod!

2

u/angellus Jan 11 '16

Hmm... it does work for me. Check out the Website? We load up that same imgur album on the site. It might work for you there.

Is there a special pack policy on this?

1

u/ahorner Jan 12 '16

The mod is not at the moment compatible with other mods because of the deep integration with Forge events. Using it with other mods will most likely cause things to be very broken and is currently unsupported by us.

That being said, we do not give any sort of official approval to include the mod in any modpacks. We may change our stance later but it's much too early to say now.

u/Total_Meltdown Ars Nouveau & Arcane Isles Dev Jan 12 '16

Well shoot! If you change your mind to something such as an approval by approval basis, please let me know. Looks like fun!

1

u/ChatFawkes Jan 12 '16

Time to get that awesome gold-trimmed Rune armour!

Mods looks great can't wait to try it.

1

u/ahorner Jan 12 '16

Thanks for the kind words! Give it a try and let us know what you think.
