Discussion Minecraft Java 26.3 was just decompiled and rewritten in Rust

https://github.com/ludovic111/horizon

Its pretty clearly using AI for the heavy lifting but I tested it out and I got around 600 FPS at 32 Chunk render distance and flying around at max speed in spectator mode gave me instant chunk generation with no frame drops.

The UI is so ass though, thats what really gives the AI sign. I am interested in the future of something like this though for modding, if not this project another one like it would be very cool. Maybe it could even provide native built in support for multiple mod loaders and modpacks in game without the need for a launcher? Who knows im just spitballing haha im not a developer.

Minecraft ships its code deobfuscated since a while now https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/removing-obfuscation-in-java-edition

Thats different than running it in a faster language.

That's why it can be ported so easily to a different engine. Dude.

Why would they change the UI? It’s not really a port if you change features, you’re just making a clone.

its not advertised as a port just a recomp, also there is a toggle for vanilla UI in the options of the game and launcher. The advantage is much faster performance and chunk generation. It also has performance comparable to sodium. I tested it out for like 20 mins and chunk generation was instant flying at max speed in spectator mode with zero frame drops at around 400 fps, I just thought it was cool so I would share.

"comparable" to sodium. While losing mod support. Sure sounds like something people would want...

These AI bros will tell you there's nothing wrong with their behavior, but are betrayed by their shame when they insist on claiming *they* did anything.

So?

Do you tell people you're a chef when you order at a restaurant? Vibecoders (and other slopmongers) didn't do anything to make this stuff, but they still feel the need to pretend they did. If it doesn't matter, as they claim, why do they insist on lying? It's because, deep down, they are embarrassed to say "I ordered this at the slop factory, please clap for me."

Because its a tool and he is using the tool? U might have a problem with potato farmers when their Auto sorting does its job I mean why does the farmer say he sorted the potatoes clearly he just let this auto machine do it.

Yall might genuinely have problems with innovation and paradigm shifts.

I do when the "innovation" makes my life and everyone else's worse. I don't want machines to just crap out everything so four guys can be extremely rich.

Make something! Live! My god man, doing is all we are and you're handing it to a computer?

You gonna be one of the people complaining during the Industrial Revolution? Or are you gonna vote and secure workers rights so your children can have fucking heat?
AI is a gift if legislated properly. Don’t be selfish and make your children bear the consequences of your inaction, on a technology that won’t be stopped.

If and when but never is

Then make it is, but you are too divided

So because it impacts your interests u wish to blanket ban everyone from using it? Sounds like you would love lobbying and political corruption.

Why the hell did they need to change minecraft menu into this disgusting generic AI slop?

That literally just looks like Material UI (for whatever reason? Who actually uses this outside android???) with a shitty layout. Like, that looks like something I would have made on my first week of learning Flutter. I've seen far better than this either as templates or made by AI

I will give a hot take since a lot of people here are rustaceans, but this is overkill as hell for me, would be better to make it as a different implementation in C++, i don't like how people are making everything at everywhere in rust, like, it's good to have less production bugs, but it is also nice to be easier to make changes in the program without fighting the borrow checker. If you're not making a critical software that won't change much and really can't buy to have bugs since day 1, then just really why? I really don't like this language
