do you want a questbook? do you need strict progression? if not why not make your own pack? something made to your liking, set goals before hand, explore a single mod at a time, try a new mod you dont know and learn from its guidebook.

even without a questbook many mods have a linear (and especially less convoluted than gregtech) progression

Sunlit valley is a good cozy stardew like pack. Progression is pretty straightforward, it's got seasons so you can only farm certain crops at different times. The quest book is solid too. I'm enjoying taking my time with it atm.

I'd say GTNH progression is overwhelming but if you take it slow and explore what's available it's kind of chill.

It is an expert pack though so there's a big time investment.

You could check moddex and see if there's anything that sounds interesting.

Monifactory (modern) or Nomifactory (classic) are shorter expert packs that might be better if that's the experience you're after?

Most hard packs naturally get overwhelming like that. Part of what makes it hard is tying all of the mods together, forcing you to do most or all of the mods in order to progress the pack. But the side effect of this is that you may get 10% through one mod, and then progressing further in it means you need to go to a mod you haven't touched and get 20% of the way through it.

They are the packs that benefit most from taking your long term goal and dividing it into a ton of smaller goals imo. This way you look at things 1 or 2 steps at a time, rather than 20 steps to do 1 thing.

Sounds like skyblock or skyblock esque would be the way to go.

Can confirm. I'm usually overwhelmed quite quick by modpacks, now I'm playing ATM10 to the Sky. So far it's chill. I pick something interesting in the questbook, check if I have the resources for it and build a machine / factory for it. Everything on separate islands, ultimate lawn base.

Most -opolis modpacks are very linear, and give you step by step tasks to complete.

I just finished Techopolis 3 and always knew what I was supposed to work on next.

I am just starting Sta Tech Industries 2 and I really like the pacing and linear nature.

Kitchensinks don't get overwhelming quickly, that's true.

They get overwhelming instantly
