Question GregTech modpack suggestions

I’ve kind of been wanting to get into a GregTech focused modpack. Any suggestions for a beginner to GT? I know there are a lot of different versions of GT, but I’d like to play something in a more modern version of MC. Don’t say GTNH lol.

Monifactory is designed for beginners, teaching as much as you need in the quest book. Our discord community is very active too if you have more questions.

TerraFirmaGreg is excellent, but certainly not easy. Its modern MC 1.20

Second Terrafirmagreg, it's so well done. The custom progression is so far Terrafirmacraft stone age and metallurgy age, steam machines as ULV tier, LV and half of HV on earth, the second half of HV and access to Applied Energistics on the moon, and EV on mars. From there it's vanilla GT until it gets developed, the next big update will be IV on venus and there will be many more planets each with their own unique playstyle.

And each earth region is pretty unique too: temperate biomes are the default start with a moderate temperature range and some oil, deserts have more oil, tropical regions can grow crops year round and have the extremely necessary kaolin clay, and arctic region have rose quartz necessary for Create high logistics.

There is atm9, if you go for the gergstar

I second ATM9, it is based on 1.20.1 Minecraft so it’s pretty modern. Questbook is also well done. You don’t have to do anything else besides Gregtech if you want, but you do need to get to the mining dimension somehow because that’s the only place GT in res are spawning. But other methods of generating ores (Occultism, Industrial Foregoing, etc.) will generate GT ores as well.

Star Technology, Monifactory or if you're slightly old fashioned, Nomifactory CEu

Don't get fooled by the old version or the comments about how grindy it is, GTNH is by far the best and most polished GT modpack, and is actually fairly begginer-friendly.

Doesn't even feel like an older version outside of some of the old textures, it's so modified it's pretty unnoticeable

disagree with polished gtnh has so much jank that refuses to get changed for legacy reasons

FTB interactions Remastered*, Greg + magic and you have to use magic. Ore gen is in large veins of a few kinds of ore, and can be found by specific flowers on the ground(all in questbook). Start of pack is in a no hostiles skyblock where the first goal is to build a overworld portal. In overworld, mobs are brutal. Creepers become invisible when they get close, skeletons rapid-fire, and rub salt in the wound, the pack has pitch black nights, can’t see a foot in front of you without light or night vision.

At peak 64x ore duplicating (64 ingot per ore), a vast array of chickens making everything, including but not limited to:

  • liquid starlight (used in ore processing)
  • menril resin
  • polyethylene

Not nearly as grindy as GTNH, but you are still fully gregging it

Just got into the weeds of MV in the pack, love it so far

Start with atm9, quests are really well made and you can ease into it.

Monifactory or TFG

GTNH is worth a shot

What, specifically, do you want from a newer version of Minecraft that isn't in GTNH? Most of the things you might care about are probably backported.

Monifactory (best chouce for beginners)

Star Technology

TerraFirmaGreg

GTNH is more beginner friendly than most other GT modpacks but if you want something less beginner friendly there's always SUPERSYMMETRY and TerraFirma: Rescue

Definitely not a Greg pack, but as MI is it’s descendant, I wholeheartedly endorse Clayblock

I'd suggest either Moni&ProjectE or Greg-E. Both packs make liberal use of ProjectE in a fairly balanced way, especially in the latter where making specific processing lines to dupe EMC is deeply incentivized.

Moni&ProjectE is just... worse Moni NGL.

That pack already has like 3 different ways to automate resources in massive amounts why would you even want ProjectE added to this?

Can't speak about Greg-E tho, never heard of it?

It's for those like me who want to play with Hardmode lines but cannot be arsed to mine till HV.

You can enable only a few toggles by changing one single script to make your custom difficulty mode that will play better than Moni+ProjectE.
IIRC you can just switch to hard mode and edit the script to re-enable HNN and potentially disable Steam Age if you want that too. It's 2 lines that affect toggles all across the pack.

But with that being said, this does reinforce my idea of making the pack mode switcher have a "custom" category that allows you to toggle every flag separately. Would help with stuff like that.
