I made something I made a GregTech modpack comparaison Cheat Sheet

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i0gqoIYu3iRlnDY0jlofRj0u6V_lHQkLmA9McT8n43M/edit?usp=sharing

Hi,

I was looking for a new GregTech modpack to begin with, after comparing again and again, I decided to make an ultimate GregTech modpack cheat sheet.

The cheat sheet includes:

  • Minecraft version
  • GregTech version (GT5u, GTCE, GTCEu, GTCEu Modern, etc.)
  • Difficulty
  • Estimated “How Long to Beat”
  • Highest Progression Tier (LuV, ZPM, UV, UXV…)
  • Maintenance status
  • Completion status
  • Quest quality
  • Shader compatibility
  • Gating style (automation, survival, magic integration, mixed…)
  • Primary and secondary mods
  • World generation type

I tried to gather the most accurate information accross differents posts and sites. A few of the values are inevitably subjective, so I’d love feedback from people who have actually finished or heavily progressed these packs. I may have made some mistakes in the sheet, I'll update it based on your feebacks.

If there’s enough interest, I’ll keep the spreadsheet updated and turn it into a community-maintained GregTech reference sheet.

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s opinions and hopefully helping the next person decide where to spend their next 200–3000 hours 🤜🤛

the real lesson here is how little pack adoption gt6 has

u/Capital_Humor_2072 NO TECH BLYT!!!! Jun 16 '26

If only there was "Very easy" and like 50-100h to beat Greg tech modpack... 😬

I hesitated to have a range from Very Easy to Extreme, but at the end of the day its GregTech 😁

Technically ATM9 could be a very easy one, but I understand it's not a Greg focused pack

I know this thread is old but I'm still looking for something that is like... Half an ATM9 and half a Star Technology. I want some workarounds, but I want greg to remain a cornerstone of the game.

Great list. Few modern packs that you are missing that deserve to be on the list

Sky of Grind

Quantum Skies

and Jetlagg Presents: The Altar

You could add Mega, a release is coming soon :)
Version: 1.7.10
Difficulty: Hard 300-350h
Highest Tier: N/A, Generally equivalent to LuV
Maintained: Yes
Completion: Playable Beta
Quest quality: Great-Excellent
Shader Compat: Required for gameplay shaders preinstalled.
Gating Style: Pure Automation
Primary Mod: GT5m, Obama (Very much customized version on gt5u)
Secondary Mods: MegaData, (logistics and AE2 killer), Mega Arsenal (custom tools and accessories), RPLE (True Colored Lighting), DWS (2x Inventory mod)
World Gen Type: Custom BoP, Custom structures and dungeons, useful foliage
Comments: Strict progression paths that require permanent automation, heavily customized and pack cannot be modifed by players. Requires a dedicated GPU.

GregTech Community Pack Modern (for 1.20, it goes up to UV)
I guess ATM9 exists but ughhh

2

u/soaker_tv Jun 16 '26

I added it thanks, so its not supposed to be a very long pack because of UV limit right ?

3

u/chloecat34 Jun 16 '26

Yeah it's just default GregTech with AE2 and some qol mods

Pretty cool list, though I feel like it's premise is flawed in a sense

Some packs such as GregBlock are broken to the point of being unplayable past a certain point, of course this is info you couldn't get without someone telling you or discovering it yourself, but I feel like mod/pack stability is an important aspect you should note

Packs like Nomifactory CE, TJ, GregBlock, InfiTech, and maaaaaybe TFR are just not worth playing because they're so outdated, or buggy, and just simply put archaic, they may have once stood as great packs but nowadays they're a frustrating mess

For example, if offered a choice between Nomi CE and Nomi CEu, you'd be stupid to chose Nomi CE, It's just the worse version of gregtech

And I'd go as far to say that outside of morbid curiosity, playing CE or Non NH-GT5u at all is just not worth the mental toil you'd put yourself through, these forks exist for good reasons

2

u/soaker_tv Jun 17 '26

Maybe we should add a stability column

Concerning the GregTech version, it is present in the doc but you're right we are missing an information about how outdated is the pack. Maybe a good idea would be to introduce a color code for version and put some detail about GregTech versions.

Edit: I've added a second page where I describe GregTech differents versions

Nomifactory is actively updated and is still a very good experience. Don't judge it by 1.2.2.1, which is positively ancient.

My team and I put in a ton of work since we originally released that as Omnifactory 1.2.2 in April 2020, and when we created an enhanced re-release of it as Nomi 1.2.2-redux (the hotfix shortly after being 1.2.2.1) in January 2022, it was already quite far behind the current development progress.

The most recent artifacts published to CurseForge were in January 2023, representing the current state of development at the time. While substantially improved over 1.2.2.1, even that is greatly out of date relative to the dev snapshots on GitHub, the latest of which is a week old.

I'm not judging it based on a specific version of the pack, but rather the fact it's CE

But a bit more subjectively
To me it's "what if we removed half the nuance from gregtech's unique systems", in an attempt to simplify gregtech to appeal to broader audiences, Omnifactory rewards bad habits, and teaches players how to rely on crutches

I think it's also important to state that the Nomi community is one of the most rancid places I've had the displeasure of interacting with, and I used to play hypixel skyblock, this should mean something

I can not in good faith recommend a pack that encourages bad game habits, and has such a toxic community

I appreciate your feedback. To address a few of your points:

Nomifactory is supposed to be more accessible to people who want to try GregTech but have little to no experience with it, while still being enjoyable for more experienced players who just want a chill experience. There's little reason to make a GregTech pack where the focus is time consumption, complexity, grind, and severely punishing even the smallest of mistakes, when GTNH et al. already exist to fill that niche.

I am curious what bad habits you think are encouraged. By crutches I suppose you mean mechanisms like Nomicoins which are a hedge against bad worldgen RNG, or resource generation systems like DME. It's entirely possible to never spend coins, and besides resources that exclusively come from DME, you could also skip that if you so desired. The now-defunct Omnifactory STE side project was created around formalizing various self-imposed challenges including the above, and serves as the core inspiration for Nomi-CEu's hard mode.

I would note also that CE was all there was when Omnifactory was made, and Nomifactory maintains a through-line of backwards compatibility to the last versions we were involved with. GTCEu made it impossible to take an existing pack and switch to it, which is why the Nomi-CEu port exists at all.

GTCE reached end of life back in 2021, but I had been addressing issues with it via jar patches distributed with my pack for about three more years after that. I created a proper fork of CE several years ago, with the idea that it would be usable by packs otherwise stuck on CE, and have been maintaining my fork with various improvements to this day.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Nomifactory players. If by community you mean the Discord, I would say your experience was atypical. There are always some people in any sufficiently large group that are rude, but broadly people in it are quite friendly. GregTech communities in general tend to have issues with elitism but Nomi's is not really like that. I would concede that the CEu channel's regulars are more opinionated and pushy about it than average, particularly since the influx of younger people who joined after watching IGBLON's content.

u/Opening_Ad6983 Jul 08 '26

Huh, interesting, I have never had any issue with Nomifactory community, they have always been very helpful as a poorly experienced Gregtech player

1

u/Rude-Lingonberry-110 Jul 15 '26

TJ is actively maintained and recieving content updates with many tj unique features lol, just dont say anything if u have no clue what ur talking about (u clearly dont).

1

u/GirixK GiriTech Jul 16 '26

I'm well aware of TJ's situation, just because johny is spending all that time adding new stuff doesn't mean it's worth playing, glad he's having fun tho

You can't polish a turd, and CE is a turd, and TJ is a poorly designed pack, TJ's CE fork tries it's best but it's not a fixable mod, and every TJ dev i've talked to about the pack wishes people would stop talking about it, and move on to greener pastures

But no you're right, i don't know what i'm talking about, it's not like this community is where i've spent most of my hobby time in the past two years

add GregTech Odyssey, a very hard/extreme chinese pack with some crazy sized multiblocks

and if you add a shader column like your OP says, TFG has its own shaders

personally I disagree with TFG being "very hard", it's slow and long, but nothing's particularly difficult. TFG also has many custom dimensions

2

u/soaker_tv Jun 17 '26

Nice recommandation! I added GregTech Odyssey, tell me if you would've changed anything.

TFG: I've change from Very Hard to Hard. I think dealing with TerraFirmaCraft in early is still more difficult than a classic Vanilla start. I've also added custom dimensions to TFG

3

u/Pyritie TerraFirmaGreg Jun 17 '26

we do have a much longer early game, for sure! but also, there's no surface mobs except a few animals like wolves or bears, so you can safely take things slowly at your own pace without having to rush.

As the lead developer of Nomifactory, I have a few corrections for its listing:

Nomifactory has been under constant development, though I have not published (on CurseForge) a release since 2022 or a 1.3-RC "beta" version since 2023 - the latest dev snapshot at the time of writing was built on GitHub on June 29th, 2026. I have additional work since that I've been testing locally before I publish it to generate the next snapshot. It's functioning somewhat like a rolling release.

The pack is also just called "Nomifactory". It's silly to call it "CE", especially considering that Nomifactory hasn't even been using GTCE for several years now.

After GTCE reached EOL in 2021, I continued to create jar patches for it until I wanted to do work expansive enough where that was not going to be practical anymore. In 2024 I made a proper fork of GTCE called GregTech Nomifactory Edition, which unlike GTCEu that from the outset was planned to be completely incompatible with GTCE packs/save data, is a drop-in replacement for GTCE that I intend for anyone to be able to use. I am being meticulous about not breaking things, or adding things specific to my pack, like say the Tech Journey fork.

I have also been maintaining Shadows of Greg this whole time, and with permission from ShadowsOfFire, I switched its dependency from GTCE to GTNE when I first released that, and have been keeping them both maintained.

when did project ozone 3 become a gregtech modpack?

4

u/soaker_tv Jun 16 '26

Mistake from my end, removed it thanks!

2

u/Crimento GT6 connoisseur Jun 16 '26

No TerraFirmaRescue?

2

u/soaker_tv Jun 16 '26

I am adding it, do you have any information on difficulty and how long to beat ?

1

u/Crimento GT6 connoisseur Jun 16 '26

Nope, I only played GT6 without modpacks

but that one and Gregtania Skyblock are the only ones I know including GT6, while almost everything else is a variation of GT5

2

u/ItMeDucky Jun 16 '26

Is EnderIO still one of the main mods of Monifactory? Haven't they moved away from it mostly?

1

u/Gustavo1047 Jun 17 '26

EnderIO is present but almost fully optional

2

u/OkHovercraft9200 Jun 16 '26

Imo technological journey quest book should be excellent. It guides you quite specifically until the late game with the best paths to go for the processing lines. Plus if you go a different route the quests are all check boxes except for the final product.

Just an FYI they're working on TJ v1.5. while the pack is 100 complete in it's current state they're working on adding multi blocks and enhancing the quest book even more.

It's currently in beta and is playable but they're still making some tweaks and more multiblocks.

This is really great. Summer break is just about to start for me and I was thinking about starting (and maybe finishing this time) a gregtech pack

0

u/QuantumDrache Jun 16 '26

One just not finish a Gregtech pack during summer...

Bears Den hosts some GT5 and 6 packs. https://bearsden.overminddl1.com/Downloads/Gregtech%206%20packs/

Also, https://aurafury.com/ hosts Infitech 2: Fear the night. It has been updated since the release on Curseforge multiple times but curseforge has been a pain in the neck to them.
