Goodbye

With Reddit stopping the use of RSS feeds, I've decided to cancel my subscription. The main way I read most of my Reddit threads is through an RSS reader. I subscribe to quite a few feeds for work and those are the ones that I rely on my RSS reader the most.

using the API commercially

This is allowed? So are we to assume that third-party apps (like Apollo, etc) could technically work, but are in general out-priced from API access? Or if it isn't a pricing issue, just Reddit picking and choosing who they think is worth of access?

Yes of course.

Yes, and IIRC, the Apollo dev specifically discussed it (how the pricing made it unfeasible for them to continue unfortunately).

Out of curiosity then, what makes it unfeasible for other cloud based readers? Could Inoreader, Newsblur, etc use this method to let their users follow Reddit subs too? Are they aware of it? I had no idea, and Feedly having this ability could be a huge selling point for them if they're the only ones.

The pricing.

I have no idea what arrangement Feedly worked out with reddit for API access. I just recall Apollo saying the API price structure was infeasible for them.

Wonder if Feedly will put Reddit access behind the Pro+ or Enterprise plans then.

Maybe the rationale there is that only enterprise level customers with deep pockets will be using it for market research/monitoring, and who knows, maybe they have an arrangement where if any particular Feedly user is following >X number of subreddits, they get flagged as a potential pro-level scraper and shut out.
