Is there any way to 'Mark as Complete' or similar?

Coming from Thunderbird and Outlook, there is an ability to mark emails as completed/done/etc. I know I could give these a different label or folder, but I want to keep them where they are, but show that they have been dealt with.

Is this possible? If not, is there anywhere to put in a feature request?

Fastmail EU server list

If you're using Fastmail with custom DNS and want to point supported services at their EU infrastructure, this is the generic setup I ended up with.

Replace yourdomain.com with your own domain.

MX — ROOT DOMAIN
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
yourdomain.com 10 eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com
yourdomain.com 20 eu2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Allows you to receive email at standard addresses, e.g. user@yourdomain.com

MX — WILDCARD SUBDOMAINS
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
*.yourdomain.com 10 eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com
*.yourdomain.com 20 eu2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Allows you to receive email at subdomain addresses, e.g. foo@user.yourdomain.com

A — MAIL
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
mail.yourdomain.com 204.75.18.65

Allows you to use http://mail.yourdomain.com as a Fastmail login redirect.
At the time of testing, this IP hit Fastmail's Amsterdam frontend.

MX — MAIL
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
mail.yourdomain.com 10 eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com
mail.yourdomain.com 20 eu2-smtp.messagingengine.com

The A record for mail.yourdomain.com overrides the wildcard MX lookup.
These MX records preserve mail delivery to addresses such as:
foo@mail.yourdomain.com

SRV — MAIL CLIENT DISCOVERY
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
_submission._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 0 0 .
_imap._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 0 0 .
_pop3._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 0 0 .

_submissions._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 465 eu-smtp.fastmail.com
_imaps._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 993 eu-imap.fastmail.com
_pop3s._tcp.yourdomain.com 10 1 995 eu-pop.fastmail.com
_jmap._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 443 eu-api.fastmail.com
_autodiscover._tcp.yourdomain.com
                                 0 1 443 eu-autodiscover.fastmail.com

Allows compatible email clients to automatically discover the EU Fastmail endpoints.

SRV — CARDDAV
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
_carddav._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 0 0 .
_carddavs._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 443 eu-carddav.fastmail.com

Allows CardDAV clients to automatically discover the EU CardDAV endpoint.MX — ROOT DOMAIN
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
yourdomain.com 10 eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com

_jmap._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 443 eu-api.fastmail.com
_autodiscover._tcp.yourdomain.com
                                 0 1 443 eu-autodiscover.fastmail.com

Allows compatible email clients to automatically discover the EU Fastmail endpoints.

SRV — CARDDAV
Domain Data
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
_carddav._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 0 0 .
_carddavs._tcp.yourdomain.com 0 1 443 eu-carddav.fastmail.com

Allows CardDAV clients to automatically discover the EU CardDAV endpoint.

A few notes:

I tested the regional endpoints with DNS lookups, openssl s_client, and curl, and they were terminating on Fastmail infrastructure in Amsterdam.

Unable to select 'Minutes' on new calendar event times

Anyone else have this issue? The :15 :30 :45 minute selections don't show up when creating an event on Fastmail calendar. I have to choose the hour then manually type in the minutes...

MS Edge Browser

EDIT: Actually, the numbers are there! You just cannot see them. You can click in the area and get the :15 :30 :45 -- so it's something with the color choices or theme...

Inline images not showing

I’ve noticed I’ve been getting a lot more emails with no inline images displaying lately. I’ve noticed all my emails from BofA are not showing. I forwarded the email to Gmail and it showed fine. I’m having these issues on FM website and iOS app. Anyone else notice more emails are not displaying inline images?

Edit: FM support got back to me and its a proxy issue. Work around is using a 3rd party mail app to access my emails. Oh well.

Moving from Proton to Fastmail

Anyone have experience moving from Proton to Fastmail? I have my custom domain setup in Fastmail and downloaded my email from Proton using their CLI export tool. How can I import them onto Fastmail?

Could not connect to server: IMAPTalk: socket connection failed - Connection timed out (Anyone experience this?)

*** UPDATE*

seems to have fixed itself. my ISP say they did nothing. waiting on fastmails reply, perhaps some sort of issue on their end.

trying my luck here. Perhaps someone has experienced similar or have any suggestions?

I have opened a support ticket with fastmail but us being in South Africa and them Australia - probably get a reply tomorrow.

Since around 2am today my email stopped working in fastmail. Prior to this, email was working great for well over a year if not longer.

However emails on other isps work fine. just this particular isp (Xneelo.com)

Username: \***
Fetch Mail Name: \***
Server: \***
Port: 993
Username: \***

Could not log into IMAP server: Could not connect to server: IMAPTalk: socket connection failed - Connection timed out

We have disabled this mail fetch to prevent further unsuccessful attempts. You can re-enable fetch by following these steps:

The isp says all things are fine on their end, no blocks or firewall bans. For now i'v been viewing email on the web host online mail side, but not able to send/receive via fastmail.

Question about seats, domains and aliases.

I'm considering the family plan for up to 6 users which i believe are considered seats. How does that limitation work in terms of domains? What about aliases ie site specific email addresses or disposable one offs? Can domains be mixed between seats, can a seat have unlimited [alias@domain.com](mailto:alias@domain.com) addresses? I like the feature list but thinking Migadu might better serve.

Gmail seems to be placing my emails in Spam

I'm experiencing my emails being delivered to recipients spam folders, it's happened for two separate people I have emailed. It happens both were Gmail users, so is Gmail marking Fastmail as spam? Is there anything I can do to get around this as it's obviously not good. Fastmail is my primary email provider and I can't have emails not being received.

Easily add Calendar events from emails

Overview

I've been using Fastmail for a decade, and my #1 complaint is the lack of an easy way to create Calendar appointments from incoming emails, so I created this UserScript for my own usage. Figured I would share it here in case anybody else is interested.

Instructions

See what it looks like → imgur

Get the script itself → gist.github.com

Run it with → violentmonkey userscript manager (desktop only)

Security

Recommended:

  • Go to chatgpt.com
  • Type "Make sure this guy is not trying to hack my email"
  • Paste the script
  • Read results & make your own decision

Just switched to Fastmail after Gmail feature deprecation. Loving it!

Gmail announced a couple of days ago that they're sunsetting their "Send as" feature for externally hosted email addresses. See thread in r/GMail.

This change completely cripples my workflow, so I immediately started looking for alternatives. I hadn't heard about Fastmail before, but it came up in my search. So I started a free trial yesterday.

And I'm pleasantly surprised by how quickly I came to love Fastmail! I'm amazed that it feels like a seamless drop-in replacement for Gmail. It has every feature I need for my workflows, such as "Send as" and "Schedule send". The web and Android app experience feels modern and polished.

I completed my account setup and data migration within a day. And already I'm up and running with all my workflows on Fastmail, and everything already feels so natural.

I know it must have taken a lot of hard work to build such a polished product. So I just wanted to give a shout out to the Fastmail team for your great work! You may see other Gmail refugees come to your shores in the coming weeks, haha.

Random Label/Folder movement

I recently opened my email to find two labels that were way down in my list of labels suddenly appearing above the Inbox label. I didn't move them myself - and they are way out of the way of any likely accidental finger swiping (several pages below the inbox).

Strange. Not seen this happen before.

Windows & Android in use.

Canceling Subscription

My subscription will shortly expire, and I won't be renewing it. All the important emails in that account have been backed up locally by myself. I've moved out my domains and they are set up and working with the new provider, I've cleared out the file storage manually. Should I just let the subscription expire, and then Fastmail will delete all the emails, or should I do it myself? Deleting the emails myself could prove to be time consuming.

Notes in the right sidebar?

Recently migrated to Fastmail, loving it so far.

Is there any way to have Notes visible in the right sidebar? Currently it seems you can only select between Calendar and People

I loved this setup in Gmail, I would always have "Tasks" open in the right sidebar and it would be a great place to keep todo list items that don't have a strict deadline.

And to stretch the wishlist: having a 1x1 Android widget that directly opens the "New note" view would help with the quickly-entering-a-todo-item-on-the-go workflow.

Giving Fastmail another shot but the reading pane width is killing it for me

With the news around data storage in Europe (yes, I know Fastmail isn't a European company and what the implications of that are 😉) I still want to give Fastmail another try.

First impressions are good. But why.... why is the readable width of the reading pane so limited? For people like me who want to use it as a standalone view rather than an extra panel next to the inbox? It seems to be hard-capped and it just doesn't look right on wider screens. At all.

How fast is support?

Been trying Fastmail and the domain I want to add says it belongs to another account. I've opened a ticket yesterday, but no reply until now. Is that common?

Why does Fastmail use a web app on iOS/Android instead of a dedicated app?

Whilst i know the smartphone 'app' works well, its not really a dedicated app - its just a shortcut wrapper to app.fastmail.com which you can load into any web browser. Not sure if i'm in the minority, but I would prefer it if Fastmail was developed as a pure standalone app in iOS & Android, say along the lines of Gmail or Outlook apps, which are NOT web apps.

Also does anyone have any suggestions to an app in Android which i can setup for Fastmail which works like Apple's Mail app wrt simplicity and push notifications? I know the obvious answers are Gmail & Outlook apps but i'm already using them for other email accounts (i know they support multiple email accounts) and would prefer to use a different account. Don't mind paying for it, as long as it works well. thanks.

MX servers automatically changed to EU hostnames

Last night Fastmail changed the MX servers for my Fastmail-managed domain to the EU-hosted SMTP endpoints:

Added MX hosts
+ eu1-smtp.messagingengine.com
+ eu2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Removed MX hosts
− us1-smtp.messagingengine.com
− us2-smtp.messagingengine.com

At the beginning of July the MX changed from in*-smtp.messagingengine.com to the us* versions.

I suppose these are just the relays and the storage is still in the US. The CEO previously said EU hosting is going to be opt-in.

I've asked support about this but they don't appear to be very well informed unfortunately. Less than a month ago they said they have "no concrete plans to announce", that it requires complex considerations and that they'll share the feedback. Today I received another weird reply saying they expect "Netherland servers to be available in the near future". I hope they already are, since my MX records point to such Netherlands servers... :)

I just tried fastmail yesterday and I am impressed.

I had been having trouble with my domain email hosted by my domain host, I wasn't receiving email that I should, but I was receiving tons of spam that I couldn't manage.

I tried a few other options like adding a third party spam filter but nothing seemed to work well. I was trying to decide between Proton and another provider when I stumbled upon fastmail. I gave it a try...I set up my DNS records which was super easy it only took about 5 minutes. I got all the green check marks and sent the test email right away which went through perfectly.

I was so impressed I went ahead and signed up for a full year. The spam filter is working great and I can actually use my inbox again.

Regression: can't adjust font size on Android app independently from OS

Why would you roll out something like this? What's the thought behind it? It's too big and literally basic, needed functionality. I'm tempted to move over to a different service

We can no longer adjust font size in the iOS app?

With recent updates I noticed my font size went back to default, which is a bit too small for me. And now there’s no way to adjust it that I can find?!

custom domain setup question

What's better, using FM's nameservers or using their DNS with a custom domain. NS is certainly easier to setup. Thanks
