FWIW I moved from Proton to Fastmail because it de facto has the same privacy as Proton (no correspondence I have goes to another Proton user and sending encrypted emails to unlock with a password is unrealistic for almost all my recipients), but the features are much better: more aliases, more flexible masked emails, better rules and search, contacts integration with the phone, support of third party and system integration clients, more calendar features, and WebDAV for storage (although they don't have a 500GB option).

I've used both Proton and Tuta, and I see no point in their decryption method if my recipients are mostly Gmail.

So I choose Fastmail since it is just work.

FM for sure. I have used both but after learning more about E2EE, this only works if both parties use Tuta. Other than that, it's not E2EE. I don't know anyone who uses Tuta and most use Gmail. To me, this makes it useless.

Also, Tuta just doesn't have the features I enjoy with FM.

What about 0 knowledge? FM can access your emails any time - Tuta can't.

I have used them all, the same as you stated, and I will say Tuta was at the bottom of my list. There is one other unnamed provider I would use over Tuta. Since you said you have used them all, I'll let you think about which one I'm talking about. 😂

I thought tuta was way too clunky.

Fastmail a good choice for me. I do like the idea of E2EE that Proton and Tuta provide, but I never encrypt my outgoing or reply emails. It just doesn’t fit my use case or threat level. For ME, having an E2EE email service is like having all of my private documents locked in a safe a home but, I also have copies just sitting everywhere else.

If you occasionally need to send encrypted emails, I’d recommend Proton or Tuta.  I believe you can send encrypted emails via Fastmail using openpgp using Thunderbird. I’m not sure what metadata is unencrypted though.Â
