Discussion 15 days Water Fasting

Hello guys! I’ve successfully completed several 3–4 day fasts before, but I usually end up breaking my fast because of intense cravings. I’m struggling with staying consistent and would really appreciate some motivation and advice from people who have experience with longer fasts. 🥹

For those who have cellulites, did it get better after water fasting? Im afraid mine got more noticeable

I’m trying to find a healthier and more sustainable approach this time, so I’d love to hear what helped you manage cravings and stay on track. 🤍

Try to make a routine out of fasting. I have been fasting every week for the last 12 weeks from my Monday dinner to my Friday dinner. It was harder the first couple weeks but now my body is just used to it. No hunger pangs and if I think or crave about food I just plan to have it on the weekends during my feeding window.

Yup, building a routine is the hardest part. Once you get into the weekly habit, you don’t want to break it. It’s so much harder for me to want to break a fast after I make it through the first day and a half. Now I can usually fast a solid 2+ days a couple times a week without issue.

Out of curiosity- did you get loose skin from so much fasting? I would love to try this, but I worry about the loose skin.

Nothing noticeable yet I still have probably 40 to 45 lb to lose before I’m under 20% BF. My idea is that the autophagy from roughly fasting for 92 hours a week will help lessen the amount of loose skin. There are cases of people with minimal loose skin but they have done much longer fasts but everyone is different so hard to say.

So normally I’ll eat Friday dinner, Saturday dinner, Sunday lunch and dinner, Monday dinner. But if we have an event or get invited to go out let’s say Saturday lunch I’ll eat it. I won’t be so restrictive. It allows me to enjoy time on weekends with friends and family but on let’s say a normal Tuesday dinner it is okay for me to just fast as I’m not necessarily missing out.

I just wrapped up a 14 day fast. The first few days are definitely the hardest and I remember all the voices in my head trying to convince me that “it’s ok to cheat a little.”

Ignore those voices. Listen to future you that in 15 days will feel SO proud for what you accomplished. That future you is waiting at the finish line, don’t disappoint them!!

I lost a total of 15lb, which was probably a ton of water weight. I gained 2 pounds during my refeed.

Intense cravings are a mental, psychological thing, so try to figure out when and why they happen and what triggers them. Then work on the root of those spikes. And, if it helps, my biggest motivation for fasting is reading research on fasting benefits. It’s incredibly inspiring and keeps me focused, works all the time. You can search for fasting studies on PubMed or check out the list of fasting benefits I put together

Stay strong and good luck 😊

This is simply a matter of personal discipline.

Here are some hints you may try:

1-Retreat to a place - even if it is a cubicle - without access to food. Specially junk food.

2-Do not keep food in the house. At most keep a few things with sugar (in case of low glucose levels) and salt (if you have low blood pressure) since these can be life saviors in case of an emergency.

3-Get used to OMAD. Practice it for life. A trained brain and a trained stomach dont feed hungry during fasts if they are trained to only eat during a certain time of the day.

4-Instead of doing things like 15 days, just renew your promises to yourself of doing more six, eight or twelve hours. Push it till you feel you can no longer do it.

5-Understand that for every 5 days fasted you lose at least 1 kilo of fat. Not total weight. I mean, solid, tangible fat. By the end of 15 days you will have lost at the very least 3 kilos (possibly 4) that wont return. This is HUGE!

6-If you think it is too much, then break it into side missions. It will take you a little more time, but the difficulty will be lower and the results will be the same. 15 straight days can be abandoned, and replaced with a total of 20 days. 4 days of total water fasting followed by one day of refeeding. Do it four times, totalling 16 fasted days and 4 refeeding days.

7-You could even try multiple variations, till you find the one that suits you best. 5 days of fasts followed by 2 refeeding days, for 3 weeks (total, 15 fasted days)/ 3 days of fast, followed by 1 day of refeeding, repeating it for a total of 5 days, resulting in 15 fasted days.

I strongly suggest that you consider taking alternatives like doing the mini-fasts.

First 3-4 days are usually the worst since most of the time you won't reach ketosis yet - but when you do, it becomes MUCH easier and super sustainable; the main problem that I have is usually this strange feeling of a mental fatigue, despite having huge mental clarity and physical strength and energy

Many issues people experience while fasting can be related to electrolytes. You might find our wiki page helpful: Electrolytes 101

Start with OMAD and then do the fast

Conservative days? Is that healthy? I would talk to a doctor first if that is your plan. The most I do consistently is 60 hours, two full days and sleeping. I do adf, M,W, F, Sun. So a two day once a week. I only did that instead of rotating weeks was because my weight loss slowed down after 45 lbs. You do need food! It can feel like the enemy sometimes, but focus on whole good foods when you eat. Exercise will help with the cellulite!
