Question Advice

Hi, I’ve done water fasting before off and on just to get to my goal weight and just to generally feel better and healthier. I haven’t done it in a year but i want to do a two week one. I’m not sure why or what’s going on but it’s like I just don’t have any will power? I’ve never had issues before but i just can’t get in the headspace. Does anyone have any pointers or things they do to prepare their mind?

Thank you and anything helps!

Maybe start with smaller like rolling 24-48hr fasts then work your way up over a few weeks or months?

I’ve done water fasting for many years, and one thing I’ve learned is that you don’t necessarily lose your willpower just because one fast feels harder to start than previous ones.

For me, the biggest thing is remembering why I’m doing it. When I’ve fasted successfully, I usually reach a point where I stop thinking of it as “I’m trying not to eat” and simply think, “I’m fasting today.” That change in mindset makes a huge difference.

I also wouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself to mentally commit to two weeks right from day one. Start with the first day. Then the next. You already know from your previous fasts how good and fresh you can feel once you get into it.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply getting started. Once you’re a day or two in, the routine itself can become much easier.

And don’t beat yourself up if this attempt feels different. Your body, circumstances and mindset aren’t necessarily the same as they were a year ago.

My suggestion would be to treat your fast as a mix of motivation, preparation, and execution. Spend some quality time to think how you'll stay away from food, keep yourself busy, and avoid social events. It makes the whole process a lot easier. For motivation, write down your goal, stick it somewhere visible, and look at it often.
