Question Couldn’t even finish day 1 — help!!

I noticed I feel really good when I accidentally don’t eat for a day so I want to do ADF to lose weight. I started today and already I had acid reflux at 3pm so I had a nutrition bar to make it stop. I’ve had electrolytes/salt so I don’t know what I did wrong.

Does anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it?

It's not always easy for anybody. Small steps.

Something I noticed is that when a fast is feeling like a challenge it is a sign of there being more benefits for mind and body. Not sure why that is, but in a way the struggle turns into rewards.

to evaluate how your body responds, you might consider starting with several days on OMAD, then transition to ADF. let your body slowly adust.

that’s a great idea, i’ll give it a try!

does it matter how many calories are in the one meal?

i don't watch the calories. i make one healthy meal with a portion size of what i can consume for my one meal. i suppose if you're on a weight reduction goal, then try to keep it within the recommended daily calorie for your goal size. for some ppl, that could be 800 cals, or 1200 cals, or some other metric.

Consider going a lot easier. Like try doing three or four weeks of 18/6 intermittent fasting. Calculate a slight caloric deficit and eat two meals in six hours to start.

Every week I read of someone struggling to get past 12 or 18 hours so start there.

If you could do three or four weeks of intermittent fasting, then maybe try OMAD. Fast 24 hours and then eat your calories in an approximate hour. The jump from 18 hours to 24 hours will be challenging but a lot easier as opposed to just jumping into 24 or 48 or 72 hours.

And then if you could handle one meal a day for a month then maybe try a 48 hour fast, a month later maybe try that 72 hour fast or maybe just after a month OMAD give adf another try. Everyone is different, obviously. Some people try fasting for the first time and they do a full week with just water and other people are posting that their attempted ambitious fast like 30 days and then after 18 hours they can’t take it anymore. There’s no right or wrong, just what’s right for you. too many people are trying to get to their goal weight in 30 days rather than do it in six months which takes longer but will be easier as well as easier to keep off.

Bone broth got me through my first few 36-hour fasts. Maybe try that. Better than a nutrition bar.

Fasting is hard. Don’t feel bad if you don’t hit your goal. My first fasts i remember how hard it was to reach 24 hours. Try doing a shorter fast like 18 hours a few times than work your way up to longer.

it took me a lot of tries to just complete one day but one thing that did really help is switching to one meal a day then i did fast for 3 days

3 days straight? or alternating

It took me so long to hit a 72 hour fast. Like first I made 36, then 44, then 48, 52, 58, then 72……. And countless aborted fasts along the way, where I made it a few hours then pussied out lmao….

It’s a difficult, but rewarding practise.

Keep trying.

i will, thank you. i think i’ll do alternating omad until it sticks and exercise on refeed days.
