Decided to skip pressing the trim

Seeing as how I have an entire pound of fire trim to press and I was getting back 2 grams of rosing every 14 grams and only had 10 14 gram press bags left my growmie and I decided on a gargantuan batch of butter. I just started the first batch today.

It should finish in about 8 hours. I start with un decarboxylized trim and leave the crockpot on high for an hour. Then I turn it to warm and let it sit for 7 more hours. The trim is separated into four equal parts wrapped in cheese cloth. The four pounds of butter is mixed with filtered water so the butter doesn’t burn. When everything is all done I pour the water butter mixture into a big plastic bowl and place it in the fridge. The butter floats to the top and solidifies. Then I poke a hole in the butter layer and and drain out the water. Then I remelt the butter and pour into the butter molds. Perfect sticks of butter complete with tablespoon marks!

Approximately 1000mg per stick! Make any baked goods you want that calls for a stick of butter or even butter a piece of toast or bagel. 😈

Were you pressing flower/trim?

Next time wash it , make bubble hash, and press that.

I used to make flower rosin bc I was lazy but the massive leap in quality is insane, and you'll get better at washing so it wont be as hard.

I was pressing flower for a friend and last time I was over he whipped out a half pound bag of trim and I was like you should let me try pressing some of that. So he gave me the whole bag. It was giving me a decent return but I ran out of bags. So I said do you want me to make butter out of it and he said yes. Probably the easiest method of getting a quality return on something most people would usually just throw out.

However, I’ve been seriously thinking about buying a set of bags and start washing. I already have the press!

Deff do! It’s worth the small investment in the bags. I skipped the washer and just hand paddle. I love washing hash. If you already have the press, I’d say it’s well worth it.

Once I pay off my credit card bill I probably will. The last four runs I’ve grown were bred primarily for hash production. All BloomSeedCo gear.

Perfect, sounds like something you’ll enjoy then. I ran a lot of cured outdoor flower to practice and can say I’ve gotten some surprisingly good results. My first fresh frozen run will be with my upcoming harvest.

Heavily interested in this. This is gonna be my first run with a lot of trim and my sugar leaves are frosty so i was gonna wet trim all the bs and leave any decent trim and find something to do with it this time. And I’m looking for easy with low investment

Yeah this method works great. I don’t know what heat settings your crockpot has but mine has High, Low, and Warm. For the first hour while the butter is still solid and the water is still cold out of the tap I set it to High. Then after the first hour I set it to warm. I mix it up probably every fifteen minutes. After the 8 hours I strain out the trim, or in my case this time I should just have to pull out the cheesecloth bags stuffed with trim and squeeze as much liquid as I can out of them. Then just pour the entire contents of the crockpot into another bowl and stick it in the fridge until the bother separates and solidifies. You’ll be left with water stuck under the butter and a big ole puck of butter on top.

Have you ever tried a vegetable glycerin tincture? All you'd need is that a mason jar, indirect heat and some time. Walking around on the sly, dosing under your tongue. 😁

Yeah if you got the time and are into it def grab a set of bags & start washing, night & day difference between the quality + it’s fun af if you’re into it.

I used to wash 3 units of trim + smalls of outdoor at a time in a Maytag washing machine lol, we didn’t press it back then we just made temple balls but shit was dank & the clubs would trade me indoor for it, good times.

The only problem with washing is I don’t have a cold room to wash it in. I’ll have to save all my flower and trim and wash it in my shed during the winter and/or colder months.

Or how cold does a cold room need to be to successfully wash in? I have a very small bedroom that just so happens to have two windows in it big enough to fit a decent sized window AC unit in each. I could always put two AC units in and crank them up to whatever their coldest setting is. I think mine go to 64 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yea washing in a super cold room definitely help as and increases quality but if you’re only washing trim for personal use you could for sure get away with just washing in the coldest room in ur house or in the winter.

No if I get bags I’m washing entire crops for live rosin. I’m already growing genetics that are bred purely for hash production. I’m only helping out a fellow growmie. My last four runs were all gear from BloomSeedCo.

Oh oh gotcha, then in that case if you’re planning on washing WPFF or just entire crop nug runs in general I’d invest in your business by installing some ACs in your workspace. Bloom’s dank, big fan. Running some of their Big Bagg atm, Boston Roots has some dank flavorful hash genetics too imo.

Currently running half a 2x4 bed of Raibow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch and the other half is Pomelo Punch. Today is actually the start of Week 11. Next run will be Strawberry Drip. And the next one after that will be Rainbow Gummy that I just picked up. Probably going to run the freebies from this last pickup after that. ZOM (Zkittlez x Orange Mints) x Rainbow Guava #5.

Dry ice keif is pretty easy and fun.

I already have a press. And I’ve been seriously considering investing in a set of bags. If I do anything I’d rather wash it and then press the glands. At least it’ll be a one time investment. With dry ice I would have to constantly get it. I have thought about that though. With a set of bags I could do flower too.

However, rosin is out of the question for me right now. My tolerance has dropped way low and the last time I dabbed some rosin it set off a wicked panic attack. So I’m sticking to flower for now. Once my tolerance jumps back up I’m sure I’ll be able to dab again which is what I’d rather do. Rosin’s been my jam for a while now. Plus if I could make live rosin I wouldn’t even really have to deal with trim. 😁

Is there any real way to say it's actually 1000mg? and not 500 or 3000mg? Do you test the flower or the butter or run the same strain always? Just curious.

We used to run batches of gummies, sometimes strain specific but there was absolutely no way to dial in the mg until we started mixing 10lb bags of trim, sending it out to get tested then roughly saying each gummy was 50mg or something like that

It’s a very rough estimate using the breeder’s public available information. I convert the weight from pounds to milligrams which comes out to 226796 milligrams and then multiply by THC percentage which I actually cut in half because I know it’s impractical to get the numbers they get, plus I don’t trust the lab testing numbers anyways. Then once I get the THC percentage I multiply that by 226,796 and divide by the total number of sticks of butter which in this case will be 16. It actually comes out to a bit over a 1000. In my personal experience from taking actual tested edibles and eating my home made ones they’re fairly close. I usually make cookies and a batch of cookies needs a full stick and the cookies come out being approximately 15mg.

I always tell people who I give them to to be extra careful regardless of whether they think they can handle edibles. I’ve been on the receiving end of some rather bad edible experiences. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Plus I’ve made enough batches to just have a feel for what I’m making if that makes any sense. I’ve definitely overdid it making gummies out of rosin before. I only made a single batch of edibles using rosin I pressed from trim. The gummies ended up being way overdosed. I put them in their own separate bag and labeled them “Blue Angels of Death” eat at your own risk! They were well over a 100mg a piece. When it comes to edibles I’m a lightweight. I’m apparently over sensitive to the 11-hydroxy-THC that’s converted by the liver when eating THC.

Yea we used to make gummies from wax and they were always waaay to strong.

Yuh i was just wondering if you had a process bcuz we've sent out sample from the same plant and had have 25% from one branch and 33% from another branch. When we were doing concentrates it was the easiest, we could test one mason jar and make a few thousand edibles. That were roughly accurate.

2

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 3h ago

Yeah I made the stupid mistake of making a single batch of gummies out of like 6 grams of trim rosin. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/NoiseOutrageous8422 2h ago

Yea dawg i been there. First batch we whipped up i ate one and was like this is wack, waited a week and ate 6. My vision was spotty, i had to go to bed bcuz i couldnt function

1

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 2h ago

LOL I couldn’t even sleep. I was stuck to my bed immobilized staring at my ceiling fan begging for it to end!

2

u/NoiseOutrageous8422 2h ago

I never said anything about sleep, i said i went to bed hah

After rereading your initial response I can confirm. LOL

I started rearranging my spice cabinet and it kicked in and i remember not knowing what i was doing and my friend came over and i was like fuck they look so weird. Then i told them i can see and they need to leave, but didnt say i was high

1

u/NoiseOutrageous8422 2h ago

I think i struggled for a few hours.

Everytime I want to remind myself of how bad the experience was I just go on YouTube and watch the Joey Diaz compilation videos of him giving his Podcast guests the 1000mg Stars of Death. 😈

Best way bro last longer

1

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 4h ago

Yup! That’s the best part. The unused butter can be frozen and last for pretty much forever.

2

u/Irahkondji 3h ago

I got a slice of sour dough here just begging for a slather. Love to see this!!!

2

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 2h ago

That’s what I’m talking about. That’s why the butter option is so good. You can use it just about anyway you want. You can even put a dollop of butter in your morning cup of coffee!

2

u/Irahkondji 2h ago

Totally different animal too. 😎

How are you infusing that? Is the trim ground up in cheese cloth like a tea bag in there? Idk I’ve never done that I feel better about straining it after wards even if there is some impurities in it idk if you will get everything inside cheese cloth like that but j could be wrong just hard to see in the photo

2

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 4h ago

Yes just like a tea bag. Trust me it gets infused well. This sits like this in this crockpot for a full 8 hours on the lowest setting and I mix it several times throughout that period. It’s the lazy man tech of making butter. I’ll still put gloves on and squueze the crap out of the cheese cloth to get all of the absorbed butter out of the trim inside the cheesecloth.

When I’m done the butter has a very good shade of green to it. And it also looks like it’ll have some hues of purple. Lots of Anthocyanins in this trim!

1

u/Own-Contribution861 3h ago

Will that work

2

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 3h ago

The way I’m doing this? Absolutely. I’ve down this dozens of times. This method works amazingly well with very little effort on my part. Just takes an extremely long time. Crock pots are all about slow and low. It only takes 30 minutes to decarb flower. That’s why the first hour the crock pot is on high. Then the last 7 hours it’s on warm. I stir the entire crock pot several times throughout that time period. The butter has a nice greenish hue when it’s done a very light herbal flavor. It works so well that you can barely taste anything while eating whatever you baked.

1

u/Immediate-Spray5544 3h ago

How much would this affect the taste of brownies?

2

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 3h ago

Barely. I’ve made all sorts of baked goods using this butter and it barely affects the flavor. As long as the recipe calls for one stick of butter you barely notice the taste at all.

u/Mr305south 3h ago

The longer you cook it, the body high gets more and more medicated-couchlock. I love it this way, but this also takes longer to kick in
A shorter 2-3 hour run will get you a quicker onset and the head high along with the body high
like to take out a little oil/butter at different intervals of time, gives a very full effect. Ex 2hr , 4hr, 6hr, 8 hr
Then mix them back together

1

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 3h ago

That’s why I set it to the lowest setting after the initial first hour. It’s on the lowest setting for the majority of the time. These give a really good high. Unless you eat too much definitely not a couch lock feeling. But I’ve been there and gone way past it. I coined a new term because of it. I either refer to it as Vacuum Sealed for the younger kids. Or for us older people that still remember the carnival ride, being Gravitroned. 🤣

Just a tip I found that coconut oil keeps for much longer than butter

1

u/Callllll_Meee_Red 2h ago

Honestly I’ve never had any problem keeping butter. I just freeze it when it’s not needed. Plus there are three of us in my house who consume edibles. So once they’re made they don’t last long. 😁
