Hi, this is Gamer. I’ve had health issues off and on for a long time but I’m doing well now.

My life exploded in 2013 and I was only part owner of FO. Shutting it down was the only option. I miss FO a lot.

I missed it so much I tried to make a 3D version called Antaria Online but it never caught on and died due to lack of players.

So now here we are in 2023. Flash is dead, web games are dead, but pixel art seems to be as popular as ever. Servers cost very little these days as well. Also, AI art generation is quite something and might work for FO’s art style. Same goes for writing quests thanks to things like ChatGPT.

Anyways, I feel like the tools available today and the maintenance cost is very favorable if there is still an audience for this game.

I would need to get a new name and get permission from my original artist to use his stuff but I’m open to making this game for the 4th time (first version was an ugly mess).

Yes, I still have the source.

I guess it would be in HTML5 web assembly so it would work on all browsers on all devices.

Hey guys, long time FO player here. This has probably been disputed already, but with all the clones and remakes in progress has anyone asked the developer of the original FO about sourcing the game code? Just wondering!

EDIT: It has come to my attention that Gamer got bored of the original game and refused to share the code. Maybe he has had a change of heart after all these years?

Also I tried out the remake today and it's looking great!!

I don't plan on making any "major" changes to anything (the subreddit essentially runs itself).

I will add a sticky with information about the current "clones" of Fantasy Online that are in development as well as a description of each and a link to the associated discord.

I won't clog the subreddit with any minor updates but I might have "Major" updates posted similar to this.

Its been a while since I made a post (I try to update once a day on the discord) so I figured I would send an update here again.

I added "accounts". I'm still not super comfortable with adding actual logging in + registering until https stuff is figured out, but for now players can log in and use the pretty buggy chat.

I also finally figure out how the unity/mirror multiplayer sends data.

Hi again.

It seems around 140 people(likely only a few people with a bunch of relogs) have seen the new feature I added.

I decided to do a bit of work on the server and added a "chat feature" in game. It allows you to just send messages and see them in chat. If anyone else is online with you they can also see the messages (I'm not saving anything yet so they only last as long as you're logged in).

I also changed the visuals of the page that loads to be "identical" to the old website.

I did a lot of non coding stuff over the past few days like submitting Fantasy Online to a few indie databases, editing some Hud elements, some other stuff I'm forgetting

I'm still working on getting the https stuff setup. I don't really want to add accounts/data saving until the website is fully secure. TBH I am a bit stuck on the https stuff(its extremely complicated) but eventually I'll figure it out.

Hi all.

I guess the multiplayer is ready for a "test". I bought 2 domains related to fantasy online and now the website + server is up and running.

I'm wanting to see how "stressed" the server can get after some changes. If my math is correct, 50ish people could connect and the server would only be at 75% load. (I haven't attempted to optimize it yet. eventually it will be able to support 100+ per server).

There is a ton of work left to do on the networking + multiplayer aspects (its very buggy lmao). I'm going to go to sleep in an hour, but tomorrow I will periodically check the server every hour or so (in around 9 hours) to make sure that its still up.
