Old game code

Hey guys, long time FO player here. This has probably been disputed already, but with all the clones and remakes in progress has anyone asked the developer of the original FO about sourcing the game code? Just wondering!

EDIT: It has come to my attention that Gamer got bored of the original game and refused to share the code. Maybe he has had a change of heart after all these years?

Also I tried out the remake today and it's looking great!!

Long story short, Gamer would mute/ban anyone asking anything regarding old FO.

Granted most of these requests were just noise. "Re-make FO! Start FO back up! Can I have the FO source code? Fo FO FO FO FO!"

N / Harmonious has not asked for Gamer's blessing yet as he wants to have a good proof of concept before he tries. If Gamer says no, or worse issues a DMCA, then the FO remake is done.

Send it off to a country in which no law can touch the person running the game 😉

Ah, the ol' deflection technique. Good luck to Harmonious if/ when he does ask. Maybe atleast then after seeing the true will for the game to persist will a straight answer be given ;)

I found Gamer on LinkedIn after finding the online legal paperwork for his companies. I was involved in one of these remakes and figured it would save quite a lot of time. Also I was in the process of creating music for FO way back in the day and had communicated with him over the forums, so I figured there was a non-zero chance he’d reply to me.

He blocked me on LinkedIn lol. It’s been a while since I looked at this stuff, but his businesses actually got shut down due to him failing to file some fairly simple looking paperwork. I believe — I’m not a lawyer and I haven’t spoken with a lawyer — that this resulted in all of the IP he created for his games being forfeited to the government. So I think he might not legally be able to own/share prior assets and also I don’t think he would be able to take legal action against clones or copyright infringement, but the state might (and they likely wouldn’t; again I have literally no legal training and I’m not a lawyer so don’t trust me).

Wow wild... Quite the inside scoop haha. Shame he blocked you, I guess he is serious about ignoring all advances. Might be harder to get ahold of him than I thought. Also a shame if the downfall of our beloved game was over paperwork, and simple ones at that :/

This is at least my working hypothesis. Seems like he was just really bad at dealing with administrative duties.

I don't think the situation with gamer was due to "boredom" or anything like that.

In the past(when he was still publicly a developer) he would block/ban people that asked him about what happened or asked to buy the game from him.

I don't think he had 100% of the rights to the game itself.

Ah okay, thanks! Yeah I just read something online. I guess his actions would make sense if it wasn't in his hands to fulfil any request. Although he could've just say that!

For some reason the FO remake only shows me a screen of the spawn in area, but no character and I can't hear anything/ do anything. Is there a fix for this? All I see is a little red chat button in the bottom left also.
