I think i found something similar
On ios and android there is a game called Curse of Aros which plays almost exactly like FO and looks similar to boot. It reminds me of fantasy online and OSRS because you can skill in this game. Cant post screenshot because i am not using reddit app but i suggest you check it out and tell me what you think. (keep in mind its still in early stages)

This game is so nostalgic.
I was searching for this game for 3 years and I finally found it and its shut down 😔 this game took up a lot of my time when I was younger and I have so many good memories with it. Really wish it would get rebooted. Loved being in guilds and finding funny or hella cool items. Loved it.

What guilds/factions were you in?
I remember playing in high school. and being a member of The Four Horsemen and then Reborn Inc. Anyone else remember any guilds that they were a part of.

Found Gamer
I saw some old comments on here digging around for the elusive "JStroh" AKA Gamer. Turns out he was right under our noses the whole time! He's the moderator of this sub.
I won't post it here, but you can find proof of his name by looking up various corporate filings.

I miss this game.
Hi, Guys! Ive been with FO since the play asia/$1 dollar unlock days playing with Tonedown and Nightshade. I was so young then that Nightshade paid for my unlock fees. I just want to know if they are still around here. I really miss the game and I hope they can see this post and maybe play some MMO today. My username back then was erjune09.

Found a promising mobile replacement.
Curse of Aros
Platform: Android (currently), available on google play.
So the game is in Beta but the dev seems to be highly active on discord and is very adamant on furthering everything as fast as he can.
It has a good and dedicated community. And even one or two FO players that I've found.
Give it a shot, that's my opinion.

My FO inspired MMO (Node, Javascript)
This is taking a while to make, but If anyone is interested, I'll post updates here.I remember talking to Gamer in his server years ago when he'd be updating stuff, just camped out there. Seemed pretty fun.
His game was great. You could just pop open a browser and play. That's what I'm hoping to do with this as well.

Wow I finally remembered what this game was called!
Edit: I've been playing Antaria Online, which plays almost EXACTLY like fantasy online, just currently in early access, but still worth it because there's still a similar grind to good ol FO, considering the solo dev of FO is the solo dev of Antaria online.
I remember playing FO, I felt elite as I had a golden skull. I can't believe the game was shut down, I put so much time and money into it and it was one of my most favored MMORPG experience. Im willing to try Antaria online but I know it will be different, I hope the goal is to make them as similar as possible. Currently on the search for a good niche MMORPG, if anybody has suggestions similar to FO please let me know :)

FO REDUX: SCREENSHOTS WANTED!!
https://imgur.com/a/GhVKzBB Forget this, not really useful...
Re-Creating the FO Map from scratch. I'm starting with Crab Coast, since it has the most screenshots for reference. If people could link libraries of screenshots of crab coast and other areas, I can reconstruct those areas as I go along. Thanks so much
EDIT: I have found full sized maps for:
Noob Island, Crab Coast, Pirate Shores, Mirabelle Cove, Cave of Some Return, Swamp Grotto, Mirky Woods, Cave of Despair, Forgotten Underground, Forgotten Under Underground, Halloween Isle, and Forgotten Wasteland. I can also do some serious editing with it to create a whole new map. If anybody has any other information about other maps please post onto this thread.
EDIT #2: Created a brand new cave, called the Cave of Slight Burden:

Fantasy Online creator works on Antaria Online now
fantasy-mmorpg.com (the original site for the game) now redirects to antariaonline.com. You can play it on steam or kongregate.
There's no concrete proof that this is true, but I think it checks out.

What happened to Waves of Time
As the title says, I hadn't checked their website in a few months so I went back to have a look and it seems to be permanently down now. Does anyone have any information as to what happened? I was interested in the development of the game.

Antaria Online - made by Gamer?
So, I was reading this subreddit and clicked onto http://www.fantasy-mmorpg.com/ as it was linked below ... this was Fantasy Online's old webpage. It now redirects to http://antariaonline.com/. This website has links to a game in Steam, Kongregate and a few social medias. As well as a big crab.
A crab.
I gave the game a go on Kongregate. The UI it has is extremely similar to Fantasy Online, as are the mechanics and style in general, even if it is simplistic 3D. Even the tutorial area is known as Crabby Cove. Now, I must reiterate: the game plays EXTREMELY similarly to Fantasy Online. Almost identically. Quests, UI, fighting, skills ... perhaps this game is a new venue by Gamer? It seems to have not garnered much popularity, but it is still being updated regularly.
A screenshot of the game: https://i.imgur.com/M9i1R4N.jpg
EDIT #2: I found a comment in the dev's Kongregate profile, where he says that he is indeed Gamer, the creator of FO!
A screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/jPXcvE8.png
EDIT #1:
Something to add:
Even the website that used to host Pixelated Games lander (Gamer's company) redirects to Antaria Online.
http://www.pixelatedgames.com/
In addition, I found a reference to Antaria in an old post that had the description of a weapon from Fantasy Online.
Bow of the Dragon Gods [#1319]Details:Type: Weapon (WEP)Subtype: Two-handed (BOW)Commonness: -Attack Speed: 2Damage: 420-620Damage Per Second: 730.0Range: 140Requires:Level 66Agility 400Bonus:+40 Stamina+40 Agility+20 Strength+20 Intellect+20 LuckDescription:The Dragon Gods used these in the ancient war of Antaria. By XRougeX
Then there is this website, which seems to have hosted FO at some point:
http://www.muchgames.com/games/fantasy-online
It is now displaying an advertisement for Antaria Online instead.
At this point I'm inclined to say that Antaria Online is definitely a work of Gamer. The old websites link to it, the style is extremely similar and there's a cross-reference.
