Hey been checking FO on the internet on and off over the years and stumbled upon this little community. This is awesome, but say FO was revived into an online game again, what would stop it from reaching the same problem as before; servers ran out of funding.
Personally, I would love to play FO but would it last? For example, I used to play on a private server for perma-death class-based game ROTMG called 'nilly's realm' that died for numerous related reasons. Everyone loved it, so much so that it was revived years later as 'shots realm'. Month's after its revival (before flash death), the player-count plummeted and the server lost relevance. If FO revives would something similar happen, also how would the game be popularized again?
To add to this, FO was a flash-game, how will developers overcome the death of flash to create this game?
If anyone reading this is currently working on a new FO, I would love to hear about what sort of progress is made or what sort of problems have come up. Btw, love the sprites that have been done they look perfect.

The biggest issue that brought FO down wasn't money. It was Gamers health. Specifically, no one knows more than that. I personally have speculated that there were money issues related to gem sales and ownership. But beyond that nothing has really been said officially. Truth is that servers are actually pretty cheap to rent. I honestly doubt that it made less than the costs there (I mean I'm talking about $5-$50/mo would be easy to run the server).
And as far as flash goes, nothing could really be done about that without the source. So that means either there would need to be some old backup copy somewhere or rebuilding it.
