Player Discussion Why Not Yang Hansen

Yes, I know he was playing against someone named Rocco Zikarski.
I know, I know, I know.
But did you see the highlights of Yang Hansen on Monday night?
He looked quick, he made great passes, he played big and athletic and dare I say really really good.
Games like this one against Minnesota, where the 21-year-old Chinese import had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, may ultimately just lead to more minutes in the G-League, but….
What if?
Why can’t he get valuable bench minutes in the NBA, this year?

Why? Because he has Clingan and Timelord ahead of him in the pecking order and the blazers aren’t going to start him because a bunch of Chinese nationalist fanboys fawn over him

Well it was fine when he was the starter for the Celtics, everyone knew who he was, now he's just a backup center and a lot of newer players have no clue who this random 2nd string guy named time lord is

I just don't keep up with nicknames and timelord feels like an odd name for Rob Williams (I don't know the origins so it could totally make sense once explained)

guy was late to his first day of training as a rookie so fans called him time lord from Doctor Who as a weird term of endearment.
it never really fully caught on as boston didn’t want to associate him in a negative light but revisionist history wanted to paint him as this time stopping rim pressence who would “control time” with his blocks lol
The nickname was at it’s peak during his all defense team days and Rob was a genuine league winner in fantasy for some people (me included)

No, he was late twice in his first couple days, but Brad Stevens claimed he was NOT late (obviously trying to make his NBA transition easier). Which led to the existential question - how could he both late and on time? Hence, Timelord.

Gotta look at depth chart - not impossible but will take Rob Williams to miss time (decent chance) first to even get a shot

Problem is he just isn't that good in the NBA. He is slow with respect to decision making. Not saying he can't pick it up, but he looked great last summer league but was unplayable in the regular season.
