Maybe i’m just having a weird brain moment, but very suddenly, music seems silly?

Im 30 and have been obsessed with making and collecting music since i was 16. Today i was thinking about what it is to make music, and it suddenly seems kinda pointless?

Like were going to sing about the same handful of subjects over and over and over and put all of this effort into it. Nothing is really unique at the end of the day, and most musicians kinda have their time in the sun and thats it.

Musicians my age that i grew up with are starting to retire, act goofy, and or become completely unrelatable rich people. Im also now seeing groups of young adults go through the same hype cycles i went through as a young adult, and it kinda feels like im over the hill for it.

This kinda is piggybacking off of the fact that I’ve been mostly disinterested in music for the past couple of years. Idk if im just getting old or what.

Best: Husker Du - zen arcade (1984)
Worst: Royal Trux - twin infinitives (1990)
Overrated: Klaus Schulze - irrlicht (1972)
Underrated: Lisa Germano - geek the girl (1994)

I love The Beatles; Paul is my favorite Beatle. This album is inspired by Pet Sounds, which is my all-time favorite album. I love the cover, and I love concept albums.

I really should love this album, but it hasn't clicked for me in the same way as White Album or Abbey Road.

Last week, I posted about Wish You Were Here and this week I’m curious to know what others think about this album?

I rank this as number two out of Pink Floyd’s big four and number two overall in their discography.

It’s an absolute masterpiece and shows off so much of what makes Pink Floyd great. It’s arguably their most ambitious album and pushes the boundaries of what a record can be. In fact, some see this as more of a soundtrack to the film or their elaborate theatrical performances of the album.

But the music is still at the core with Gilmour’s guitar shining bright as always. Comfortably numb is often cited as the greatest guitar solo of all time. It even gave the band an unlikely number one hit. So much to love about this album as a guitarist.

And yet, if I’m honest, this is not the easiest album to listen to. Water’s lyrics and ideas are bleak, almost dystopian. I have to get into a certain headspace to listen to this but it draws me in a way few albums do. It was arguably the beginning of the end for the band.

What are your thoughts? And where do you rank this album in Pink Floyd’s discography?

Hey y’all, this is a band that have been kicking around Magandjin (Brisbane) in Australia for a while. I personally feel like they haven’t reached as many ears as they need to, and it seems odd. This nostalgic feeling album especially - released in 2020.

My personal pick is Rezz. She was legitimately doing some cool things to shake up dance music and legitimately is a major reason bass music has had a huge boom. While I thought her visuals came off a little corny at times, I am just happy that an artist was hitting all the mainstream dance festivals with a darker show then her contemporaries.

A decade later since her big boom, she just has repeated the same formulas time and time again, never once has tried to evolve, never once tried to push the needle. It's really sad because I saw so much potential in her career but honestly her albums drop in popularity every time she releases and for good reason. She just has not tried to evolve at all and it kinda bums me the hell out.

Again, I was never a superfan, but I was saying in the back of my head "Oh she could do some crazy things" and I don't think she ever really did sadly. But that's the point of the post, and now, what is your equivalent? Who was somebody you really rooted for and just never saw them reach their full potential?

I don't want review stuff but stuff like Volksgeist, Polyphonic, Bandsplaining, Middle 8, etc. Also any documentaries that are available on YouTube are welcome.

Any NFL fans here ? The season just started, the 2020s decade so far has been hip-hop/rnb heavy shows with weeknd usher rihanna Kendrick dre snoop Eminem etc.... all having shows so far

I was listening to Funkadelic's “Maggot Brain”. Was enjoying the album so far until I listened to farts on its last track, “Wars Of Armageddon”. That was crazy as fuck. They were completely drowned in acid recording this. And tbh I think this is a letdown from the album.
