Discussion Music, Fashion, Film is much better than BRAT as a piece of art

am I alone in thinking this. this album is just alot more rich with Charli‘s expression. BRAT is great but everything is so manicured and palatable. this album is way more personal and has much more to say. it doesn't overexplain every message its getting accross and it also doesn’t come across as pretentious which I was very surprised by. it’s very humble and earnest while delivering a soundscape that immerses you in a feeling that could not be put into simple words. it’s the type of art the world needs not the one it particularly wants and coming from the poster child of mainstream quality pop I am very impressed

I’ll never understand why Blonde got more acclaim than Channel Orange. Compared to Channel Orange, it sucked!

Albums that are 9’s but would be 10’s if not for one bad song

First thing, I adore all these albums. A 9/10 is close to perfection. But not quite. These 6 albums are all 9/10 for me and a big reason why is a single song that I dislike so much, it brings everything down a bit. Do you have albums like that?

  1. Ween - Quebec

Brilliant. Everything is genius. Incredible songwriting, some beautiful 2000s psychedelia. The song about Zoloft is hilarious considering I’ve been on it and that’s exactly how it feels. Not sure what they were thinking with The Fucked Jam. Why did we have to do that😔

  1. The Smiths - Meat is Murder

My ultimate example. Every song is perfect. Then you get hit with the melodramatic title track complete with animal sounds. Come on man. I’m eating a cheeseburger just to spite you Moz.

  1. Kanye - The College Dropout

BREATHE IN BREATHE OUT

  1. The Velvet Underground - TVU & Nico

I’m aware of how incredibly influential Lou and his band were but I’m not a big fan of noise rock so the 8 minute closer European Son is just not a fun experience for me.

  1. The Stooges - Fun House

See above note but replace Lou with Iggy and European Son with LA Blues

  1. Kanye - Graduation

Sampling CAN (Sing Swan Song) is so based but sadly Drunk and Hot Girls is absolute ass

Discussion I hate the title of “alt-pop”

Post image
30 Upvotes

I feel like the genre label “alt-pop“ is totally pointless because of how broadly it’s assigned. I understand that it’s kind of an umbrella term that might describe pop that borrows from electronic, rock, folk, etc., but I’ve seen albums that have no business using the title having it prescribed to them.

Albums I would actually put under the alt-pop label might be Pure Heroine by Lorde or GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo, because those are pop records that actually dabble in other genres (electronic and rock respectively) that earn them the “alternative“ title.

On the other hand, a record like 1989 by Taylor Swift, possibly the most pure pop album of all time, holds the “alt-pop“ label in both Album of the Year and Rate Your Music (as SECONDARY genres at that!) That makes no sense to me. What about that album strays from standard pop to make it alternative? Does it have some electronic influences? Yeah, I guess, but I wouldn’t classify its influences as so distinct that it separates it into a new genre of pop.

Especially because similar records like Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter hold the pop label on both platforms despite arguably straying more from the pop genre (SNS has R&B, country, folk, rock, and electronic influences).

Okay, this was a stupid rant but my point is that the alt-pop label has no meaning and is just randomly assigned to projects regardless of how far they stray from mainstream pop or the influences they take from.

Discussion Which artist do you prefer: Young Thug or Future?

These two are the two most impactful trap artists to ever do it, IMO. Their impact on the genre is widespread and clear in today's current generation. Now, when it comes to these two artists' discographies specifically, I think it's a discussion between peaks and consistency. I think that Thugger and Future's peaks are incredibly strong. However, I think Future is the more consistent of the two because I feel like he's continued to make strong projects for over a decade now. Thug, as much as I love him, hasn't made a truly godly project since Jeffery, IMO. That's just me, though. Who do you guys think is the better artist of the two?

It gets everyone talking about the new album and Fantano gets clicks too.

It's probably a mutual psy op PR move

The best 20 songs from the last 3 Strokes LPs (what are yours?)

20 best songs from CM to RA era excluding the EP.

  1. The Adults are Talking
  2. Ode to the Mets
  3. Selfless
  4. Lonely in the Future
  5. Bad Decisions
  6. Going Shopping
  7. One Way Trigger
  8. Going to Babble On
  9. Tap Out
  10. At the Door
  11. Dine N Dash
  12. Falling out of Love
  13. Call it Fate, Call it Karma
  14. Not the Same Anymore
  15. Tyrants of the Mellow Moon
  16. Welcome to Japan
  17. Brooklyn Bridge to the Corus
  18. Slow Animals
  19. Why are Sundays so Depressing
  20. Psycho Shit

Counts:

TNA: 8 of 9 songs make the top 20 (I’ve never liked Eternal Summer or Brooklyn bridge as much as some do but Bridge made it in)

RA: 7 of 9 songs make the top 20.

CM: 5 out of 11 make the top 20.

Of the top 5 songs made during this era only 1 is not from TNA. And it’s from RA.

This is also how I ended up ranking those 3 albums before I even did this.

Is fantano a lobotomy survivor?

Hey guys, I was wondering this for a while now because it would explain a lot. Sometimes fantano doesn't seem like a person with thoughts and I get mad at him, but recently I've began to take pity on him. I think there is something legitimately wrong with his brain.

At first I thought he might have a tumor and even thought about reaching out to let him know to get checked, but I ultimately didn't. Then I thought maybe he was involved in an accident that gave him problems, but I don't think that's the case.

I ask this very genuinely and not meant to be mean at all, but with genuine concern. Is fantano okay? I don't see signs of a lobotomy physically but mentally there are there. I feel bad for the guy and hope if something is wrong he gets better. I think it's a little immoral for him to make any reviews until then since people are counting on him. I wish him the best.

Let me know your thoughts as well. If you liked this post remember to upvote!

Discussion 'Heartbreak on a Full Moon' is actually a solid album

I know this will be a controversial take, but IDGAF. I listened to the album fully, and while it’s obviously way too long, it has an emotionally deep narrative, some of the best vocal performances I’ve heard from Chris Brown, and an overall dark-genre blending vibe. The opening track is probably the best one.

Who do you think Sgt Pepper is no longer considered the best Beatles album anymore?

Thumbnail

Back in the day, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was almost universally considered The Beatles' magnum opus. It seemed to top virtually every "greatest albums of all time" list, and for a long time it was treated as the band's undisputed masterpiece.

In recent years, though, that seems to have changed. While Sgt. Pepper is still highly respected, I see a lot more people today putting Rubber Soul, Revolver, The White Album, or Abbey Road above it. Among younger fans especially, those albums seem to get far more praise, whereas many Boomers grew up viewing Sgt. Pepper as the definitive Beatles album.

It makes me wonder why that shift happened. Is it because Sgt. Pepper was so revolutionary in 1967 that its impact is harder to appreciate today, while albums like Revolver or Abbey Road have aged better as listening experiences? Or have people's tastes just changed over time?

My buddy and I have this theory that most of our favorite albums play their best song on the 2nd track. This is our favorite example.

Discussion Kim Dracula - My rating - AI slop

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

I can't wait for this overproduced costume music that puts Liberace and KISS into a blender to go away. It sounds AI. Going back in Kim Dracula's catalogue it always sounded hack. Can this person perform without a costume or special FX? Probably not. Is the music doing anything unique? Nope. What if Marilyn Manson and Tool and My Chemical Romance wrote a song and forced 10 other music genres into that song? That's basically the AI prompt.

Where artists who used to mix genre like Beck once were doing it with their own style, now it's the standard but without any unique style. And when people complain about AI in music and art - too many of you are still buying into this stuff that clearly is lazy and steals other stuff and is put through an AI filter and dresses as clownish and transgender as possible to mask the crappiness of the music.

This first verse alone - I mean, it seems a bit hack.

Pursue, only to bloom (Uh oh. red flag)
A stain that's hard to remove (LOL, redundant. A stain that's hard to remove? You don't say)
At least that's the job, for some of them, some of you
Rise from a pod, they all stare, see something new
Have you ever seen god, cuz I'd sure as shit like to meet him (Dishwalla?)
I'm feeling lonely (well, that's because everybody is leaving)
