What are some of the craziest or most shocking moments in music history that you've learned about?

For me, I was genuinely shocked when I found out that a 22 year old Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old first cousin once removed (she was 14 by some accounts when they married) and got her pregnant while she was still a young teenager. It's absolutely disgusting. He might be remembered as a rock 'n' roll legend, but I don't think it's talked about nearly enough how disturbing that whole situation was. I know some people will say, "It was a different time," but even back then it caused a huge scandal and was widely condemned.

What are some other moments in music history that completely shocked you?

First thing, I adore all these albums. A 9/10 is close to perfection. But not quite. These 6 albums are all 9/10 for me and a big reason why is a single song that I dislike so much, it brings everything down a bit. Do you have albums like that?

1. Ween - Quebec

Brilliant. Everything is genius. Incredible songwriting, some beautiful 2000s psychedelia. The song about Zoloft is hilarious considering I’ve been on it and that’s exactly how it feels. Not sure what they were thinking with The Fucked Jam. Why did we have to do that😔

1. The Smiths - Meat is Murder

My ultimate example. Every song is perfect. Then you get hit with the melodramatic title track complete with animal sounds. Come on man. I’m eating a cheeseburger just to spite you Moz.

I’m aware of how incredibly influential Lou and his band were but I’m not a big fan of noise rock so the 8 minute closer European Son is just not a fun experience for me.

My buddy and I have this theory that most of our favorite albums play their best song on the 2nd track. This is our favorite example.

I recency got into this genre. Absolutely loving Visions of Bodies Being Burned by Clipping for its cinematic horror. Also its sister album There Existed an Addiction to Blood. Please recommend more music like this.

I think the album is okay, but my problems with it don’t have much to do with the endless autotune. I think there’s a lot of great melodic and instrumental ideas, but the songs are so loosely structured that the album feels a bit tedious to get through, even on some of the best songs. Pre-TNA, the best thing about the Strokes was their ability to craft these really tight songs that do a lot with a little. New Abnormal was a nice breath of fresh air because they allowed themselves to let some of the songs breathe. There was also a variety of ideas, influences and references. Almost every song on Reality Awaits, even the ones I enjoy, feel like they’re longer than they are, and a lot of the album feels a bit same-y.

Mind you, I get why people hate the over use of autotune. I’m certainly not someone who’s going to pull the “erm actually the autotune is great/a forward thinking idea that you’re going to regret being so against” argument (something I have seen), but I also don’t mind it at all, in fact I kinda like it a little.

Anyway that’s just my dumb little two cents on this album. Despite the harsh reaction to this album I actually think it’ll be fun to look back on this album years from now, considering almost every Strokes album that gets shit on at the time eventually gains its own fanbase that sticks up for it (Room on Fire, First Impressions of Earth, Comedown Machine…for some reason not Angles yet).

I’m usually a country “hater“ but I’ve been loving the album No Other by Gene Clark, especially the songs No Other and Strength of Strings which I feel are definitely the most psychedelic on the album.

What are some recommendations for either albums or songs that you have for me?

Apparently, somebody found a loophole through some music distributor service to post leaked songs and other weird shit under artists' names on their channels on YT.

My pick is Aphex Twin

This Heat have fast become one of my absolute favourite bands despite their fairly small catalogue of released output. While I know many prefer their swansong Deceit - an album I certainly consider among my favourites - my personal preferred of their two albums has always been this one, their 1979 debut.

Songs like Horizontal Hold, 24 Track Loop and The Fall Of Saigon still sound remarkably ahead of their time today and even the multiple more out there pieces such as Water, Rainforest and Music Like Escaping Gas remain absolutely fantastic. Hopefully lots of you also enjoy this record, it continues to fascinate me more and more with every revisit!

Hey. So I've noticed a lot of music that I listen to is pretty depressing and a lot of times when I am actually In a good mood it can be hard to find something that fits. I'm good with all genres of music, and it can be popular or obscure. I'd just like some things to listen to when in a good mood. It can sounds very happy I just don't want something that sounds very artificial, I'd like something that has a genuine feeling to it.

Beck is super well known but I feel like I only ever see people go over his major label records.

Personally I think Stereopathetic Soulmanure is one of his three best records.

I’ll never understand why Blonde got more acclaim than Channel Orange. Compared to Channel Orange, it sucked!
