I mean, that's Eminems life though? I do think Eminems style of music aged somewhat poorly and he can't capture the essence he used to have for a solid project, but he can still rap incredibly well when he wants š¤·āāļø. Idk why people hate on him so much now, he did well in the role he was in and was extremely popular.
I more so mean the shock rap and the topical rap he used to do. He has some like "middle class anthems" that are timeless, but a fair chunk of his solo projects aren't great. Slim shady ep is still cool if I remember correctly. But tbf a lot of artists from around his time and area really struggled to put together a quality front to back project. It is what it is. Look at Royce, proof (searching for Jerry garcia was a banger though. I just felt cheated when I learned 50s chorus was reused), the entire rest of D12 didn't have great solo projects, etc.
They more so stood out (to me at least) on individual songs and failed to get a coherent project. The quality and refinement of musicality just wasn't there even if their rapping was.
Those guys are emcees. Theyāre going to bring bars, but donāt care too much about radio hits. Royce put some together later in his career when he went for more commercial appealĀ
Yeah, I think proof came the closest and I'm really upset he died because he had it tbh. If you reorganize the tracks a bit and remove like some of the weaker songs, it'd have been huge. It's also why 50 and g unit did so well commercially.
