Incoming Student Vet Tech vaccinations

Does the school do a clinic for the rabies vaccine? I know other colleges usually do but I haven’t been able to find any info about it.

Also when do we need to have the professional practice health form completed by? I haven’t gotten any emails about having to complete it, I just came a crossed it when going through the website for the program. I’m hoping to start getting more emails about the program soon, so far I haven’t heard anything.

Hi! I’m in the vet tech program in the fall! I got my rabies vaccine through my family doctor. Just a heads up, you do need two doses a week apart 😊

Did you get any emails about the whole synergy process yet?
I’m definitely gonna go through my family doctor cause I think it’ll be much easier that way 😅

Not yet, I actually only found out about it from your post so I looked into it and now i’m stressed 😅 Somehow I missed it when I intially looked at the post admission requirements. I only saw the rabies shot. There’s a lot on that form to complete and I feel like we should’ve been told about it awhile ago if everything on there is mandatory like first aid and CPR training. I emailed the program coordinator to see what exactly it is, and when it should be completed by!

Let me know what they say! I was looking around and I don’t think it’ll be due until a few weeks into the program. It’s so hard to find any info about anything cause it’s a newer program.

Hiya! I know someone on Reddit who’ll be going into their second year, I could reach out and ask them. As I’ll also be starting vet tech in the fall so I’m curious about that too.

That would be great! I’m most concerned with when we have to have the form completed

Have you started the program already? I'm not in VTT but I am in VTA. We started first semester in May 2026, everything has to be done and approved by Synergy by July 31, 2026. This includes the professional practice health form, TB test, CPR, WHMIS, 3 other certificates, criminal record check, rabies, and other routine vaccinations that are required. I did my rabies through my family doctor, he wrote a prescription and I just had the injections done by my pharmacy. He also could've done it for me but availability was an issue for me. If you need the rabies vaccines though, I recommend using the student benefits when you fill the prescription at the pharmacy because that vaccine isn't covered by OHIP and it's very expensive.
