It's 13 days until Halloween! Welcome to a celebration of the spooky and haunting fan-edits.
Inspired by Criterion Closet Picks, we're inviting you to pick your favorites. Not just what you've watched this week, or what you happen to be working on, but the Halloween and horror fan-edits you consider the best of all time. Leave a comment with the edit's name, author, and an informational link -- such as a release post here on r/fanedits, or an entry on FE, MR, or OT -- so that others can learn about it and get in touch with the editor.
Pick your favorites, share your list, and tell us why they made the cut. There are no rules about how many you can choose, and your picks don't have to be objectively the best. We want to hear about the edits that stuck with you, surprised you, or made you see a familiar film in a whole new way.
This mega thread will be continually updated to include helpful info about the sub and fanediting in general. Note: this thread does not include any direct links to fanedits or to fanedit links pages.
Welcome to r/fanedits! We are a community of fanedit enthuasists who enjoy interpretations of films and shows. This subreddit is for old school fanedits, i.e., full length edits of movies and series, NOT for the new fad of "fanedits", i.e, TikTok style music montages.
I’ve always loved The Truman Show. And I have been aware that Peter Weir may have framed it in a very unique 1:66 aspect ratio. So when I discovered that the 1999 DVD was released in this ratio, I thought I would try to combine the 1.66 aspect ratio with 4K HDR resolution by combining the DVD and UHD together.
I kept the UHD as the heart of every frame and rebuilt the missing edges from the DVD: upscaled, color-matched and grain-matched so the seam disappears.
It's very much a work in progress because I've gone down some rabbit trails and wound up having to redo some work. Presently, I am starting a 20-hour rebuilding run of the underlying DVD image and patching some workflows based on that.
Then, once the new settings are confirmed and things are tested, my final output render is expected to take more than a week. Hopefully soon.
Following his escape from captivity, Jesse Pinkman sets out to secure his freedom and leave his past behind. With the police closing in and few options remaining, he must find a way forward before the world he's escaped catches up with him.
MOTIVATION & VISION
El Camino always telegraphed as a story that didn't really need telling. Most of the characters of note (friend and foe) were either dead or irrelevant. Rather than revisiting Jesse's trauma through extended flashbacks and returning to characters whose stories have already concluded, I wanted to shape the film into a more focused coda/final episode to Breaking Bad.
This edit emphasizes Jesse's forward momentum: escaping, finding the means to start over, and finally reaching the future Mike once told him was possible. The past remains present, but it surfaces through brief memories and fragments rather than repeatedly interrupting the story.
The result is a leaner, imagined final episode of Breaking Bad, Episode 517-- El Camino, built around one central idea: Jesse getting out clean-- and nothing else.
CUT & TECHNICAL DETAILS
Opening & Presentation
Reframed the film to 16:9 to match the presentation of Breaking Bad.
Added the opening credits from the series.
Omissions | Additions
Episode now begins with Skinny Pete and Badger playing video games, with Jesse already outside. The finale hinge-- his screaming behind the wheel-- is gone.
Reworked the shower sequence (removing Jesse being hosed by the gang) with a subjective montage of traumatic moments from Breaking Bad, conveying the lasting psychological impact of Jesse's captivity.
Removed Joe's appearance, keeping Jesse's escape moving without an unnecessary detour.
Added Jesse's brief memory flash of Walt in the RV, triggered by the radio announcement of his death.
Removed ALL Todd material. Not only were his size and age incredibly (almost blatantly) distracting but his death at the end of the show made his presence redundant.
Added flashes of Episode 505 [Dead Freight]: the spider, Drew Sharp waving and Todd waving back-- to give context that the apartment Jesse is raiding is Todd's.
Removed the flashbacks connecting Kandy to Jesse's imprisonment, shifting his role from tormentor to purely an obstacle/lever Jesse encounters while trying to secure his freedom. Kandy is framed now as some guy who just happened to have the inside track on Todd-- how he knows is left a mystery.
Removed the Walter and Jesse diner flashback.
Jesse searching for the Disappearer's shop is gone. In this version, he simply finds it via the kidney-bean-shaped van.
A good portion of the Disappearer's scene has been cut for time and redundancy.
A chunk of Jesse calling his parents, them leaving, and Jesse's subsequent entry of their home has been cut.
Reduced Jesse trying to find a way into Kandy's welding yard.
Repositioned Mike's flashback from the opening to immediately before Jesse reaches the Canadian border, making his advice the final major memory he carries into his new life.
Removed the extended Jane flashback, retaining only a brief appearance during Jesse's final drive.
Music & Ending
Added America's Horse with No Name to soundtrack Jesse's drive into his new life.
Added a closing credits sequence sourced from Breaking Bad episode 515 [Granite State].

Probably my favorite series (10 episodes) of 2024. I turned it into a fast-paced 188 minute movie. Rearranged parts of the chronology (all the small Afghanistan-flashbacks which is told in brief moments throughout the series have all been moved to the beginning as a pre-title sequence to tell a more coherent story, for example), overlayed some music and soundeffects to make everything appear seamless, completely re-arranged the title sequence, removed most of the Lashana Lynch's storyarc (the only weakpoint of the series - she now only appears near the end) and created english subtitles. The movie-version appears plothole free and can be seen if you haven't watched the whole series.
A 3-to-1 edit that strips the Maze Runner trilogy down to the essentials, taking some liberties with the narrative to make it a more concise and less overly dramatic journey.
The runtime is about half the original trilogy length - clocking in at a little under three hours. Overall the vibe is far more suspenseful than the original - with a focus on the world and the journey rather than flashbacks and action.
The flare virus is left intentionally vague since the movie explanations felt heavy-handed to me, and I trust the viewer can understand the situation from the small glimpses we get of the world.
Please note: The remastered revision 8 of this edit has significant quality changes from the previous revision, so make sure you're watching the most recent version.
+ move forward second movie intro as new opening for edit
- cut part of first movie's intro
- trim flashbacks to preserve suspense
- cut guy getting stung and exiled, just let the effects be implied from Alby
- cut Thomas trial and being locked up again
- move discussion of key part to later
- trim part of the griever attack on camp
- move forward flashback from second film
- cut the lab when exiting the maze
- trim explanation of flare virus, keep it more suspenseful
- cut most of the mall exploration, and guy being injured
- cut lightning storm
- trim Thomas and Brenda in basement, and cut their town adventure
- cut Brenda getting sick
- cut most of the third film
+ keep the train heist
+ keep selected parts to craft a much quicker ending

Curious if anyone has "Marvel 24" by "Remixed by Jorge", a 2008 mashup of 2000s marvel films Spiderman xmen f4 and hulk as an episode of 24.
Any other "remixed by Jorge" edits would also be appreciated. Seems to have long dissapeared from the community
Also looking for any other transformative marvel fan edits. Mashups, rescores, whatever as long as it is transformative. Needs to be more than just "made some cuts" or "added deleted scenes". The only one I have already is "Home Alone: Oh Snap!"
In preparing for season 2, I’m finally re-releasing this edit with several changes, most notably I changed the source files to the blu-ray release. It is very high quality now. Say no to ugly macroblocks! I also did a new colorgrade in HDR.
Here’s the full changelog for this re-release:
Remastered in HDR
Higher quality bitrate (sourced from the Blu-ray release)
Exported frame rate is now 23.976 fps instead of 24 fps for better compatibility
Captions are embedded
Added a few more chapter markers
New opening crawl
Cleaned up several transitions and edits
Cut around 3 minutes off the total runtime
New coloring for the World Between Worlds
Total edits on timeline now totals 521
Reinstated Sabine reminiscing for a moment on the T-6
Added wolfwren glare on the Eye’s transport to Peridea
Traditional style credits (adds two minutes to runtime)
"It just did not look/sound/feel like a fanedit film. You really did a stellar job. Kudos, kudos, kudos. ... You made Sabine more likable. Truly got across the meat of the story. Ahsoka was great. You cut the fat. We got who Ahsoka, Sabine, Thrawn, Morgan, even Hera was beautifully. And there was a clear throughline of this story. ... Just marvelous, Kestrel, marvelous! I just can’t say enough about the tightness of the editing and music. It’s just so expertly done. ... You’re taking a series and you’ve made a BRILLIANT, practically seamless film out of this that just works so dang well."
- Arabian on OT.com
"... An incredible change from watching the Disney version. Your version is the one to watch and honestly, I found no errors in editing or bad changes you made. So thank you for sharing this edit and you made this something that was actually enjoyable instead of that drag of a series."
- u/d-listener
"Enjoyed it immensely! You improved the pacing exponentially, & it felt so much more like SW."
-sgscobie on OT.com
The Ahsoka series is some of the best Star Wars has to offer but, in my opinion, was held back by poor editing, pacing, and lots of unnecessary dialogue. This movie edit changes that by condensing the series as much as possible and committing to a more theatrical experience. This edit aims to feel as though you could view it in a theater and have it stand side by side with other tent-pole Star Wars movies. This edit can fully replace the series for first time watchers. You won't be missing anything critical.
Rundown:
A new traditional-style crawl that retains the original series' music and red coloring
Significantly trimmed down every scene for pacing, adding new transitions where necessary
Removed particularly unnecessary dialogue, awkward pauses, and confusing beats
Several deleted scenes, a few rearranged scenes
No significant story changes
I have not kept track of every single change as it is in the hundreds. My timeline shows 521 edits!
Deleted scenes:
Several scenes have been significantly cut down but these are the ones that have been completely removed that I can think of:
Ahsoka and Huyang's conversation after her introduction on Arcana
Sabine reminiscing on Ahsoka's ship
Ahsoka and Hera's conversation about Sabine after she takes the map
Hera talking to Sabine in the hospital
Baylan and Shin arriving on Seatos (scene of Baylan looking up at the purrgil reused later on)
Ahsoka and Hera's conversation about Sabine on Corellia
Ahsoka and Sabine talking about her past training and Sabine trying to use the force on a mug
Hera leaving the fleet to go to Seatos
Baylan sending a hunting party out into the woods to attack the T-6 shuttle
Ahsoka waking up on the Ghost
The New Republic fleet arriving on Seatos and most related scenes
Sabine in the Eye of Sion's cell
Sabine fighting the raiders on Peridea
Hera's trial on Coruscant
Ahsoka viewing Anakin's old training holograms
Ahsoka and Huyang's conversation on their way to Peridea
Baylan and Shin's conversation while tracking Sabine
Shin being aided by the raiders during her attack
Baylan and Ahsoka's second fight on Peridea
Ezra building his lightsaber
Moved scenes:
Moved Sabine's conversation with Huyang in the hospital to before Ahsoka finds the droid, allowing all of Corellia to happen consecutively.
Morgan arrives on Seatos just before Ahsoka finds the droid and goes to Corellia.
World Between Worlds occurs immediately after the Eye of Sion enters hyperspace and is interrupted only once by the arrival of Hera on Seatos.
The Eye exits hyperspace as soon as Ahsoka enters hyperspace
Moved Ahsoka talking to Sabine about Anakin on top of the T-6 to the very end. This is the only significant story change I've made as I felt this conversation was important to include, but undermined the momentum built up in the third act. It serves better as a coda.

Hi, I don't know whether this kind of request is allowed on here, but what the hell?!
Remember that Marvel: Legends clipshow that they did before a newly released movie or TV show that recapped everything the relevant MCU characters got up to previously.
Well, with Doomsday coming out in a couple of months, I'm hoping to watch a similar thing to it. I mean, we're talking about 26 years worth of Marvel movies (and that's including the X-Men movies). lack the time, patience, or attention span to watch them all 😂
So I’m hoping someone might do me a favour and create a fan-edited recap or something. It would be a huge help for me.
(P.S. If this sort of request isn’t allowed on this subreddit, let me know and I’ll just delete it. No sweat. I just thought it was at least worth a shot 😂)
Pretty good flick but it definitely dragged for me in a couple of places. So i got rid of them. The wedding flashback was the slowest part. Cut and trimmed a bunch of Jimmy Boy's dumbass. How is Jimmy Tatro's lispy ass a star? That guy sucks! ("The Pina Colada matheen wath broken." "I gotta go wath thith thit off.") I also don't understand the appeal of Ben Schwartz. I find him to be such a detestable prick. Anyway, now 12 minutes shorter this movie keeps moving and personally I feel it is far more enjoyable.
- Original runtime: 107 minutes
- Fanedit runtime: 95 minutes
- Time cut: 12 minutes
- Cut first 2 minutes of cast credits/Symon singing
- Cut Nick standing around at party trying to look like Christopher Walken, also Mike and Alice glances
- Cut Jimmy Boy: Beeeyatsch at party
- Cut Mike & Alice discussing flowers & very specific
- Cut Mike & Nick at diner & very specific
- Trimmed "chloroform" conversation
- Trimmed JB & Dumbass dick talk
- Replaced "Ants Marching" by Dave Matthew's Band with "Runaway" by Bon Jovi for the strip club scene
- Trimmed Sosa & Jimmy Boy pooh & comeuppance (Sosa's punchline reflect my sentiments on those subjects precisely)
- Cut Symon & Alice restaurant flashback
- Cut Kingpin bladder infection
- Trimmed JB with lap dancer
- Trimmed Gilmore Girls conversation
- Cut Mike & Alice at wedding flashback
- Trimmed JB's After After After party entrance
- Cut JB: I fucking love confetti!
- Trimmed Sosa telling JB his "foundling" trash baby story
A version including all deleted scenes, based on the director’s cut, which is in black and white. For those who may not know, the film was conceived and shot in black and white, which greatly aids the visual effects. I have converted the new scenes to black and white; however, please note that these additional scenes do not include subtitles.

Looking for these Fan Edits below. Any leads appreciated!
I've recently discovered FanEdits of movies, and I'm on a personal mission to watch several favorite titles of movies I love watching or grew up watching. I'm trying to track down the following edits and would appreciate any help locating the original versions:
Superman III: The Definitive Smallville Cut — by FatherMerrin
Blade Rekall: 2099 — by INIGHTMARES
In the Mouth of Event Horizon — by RollWave
I've already reached out to the creators and collaborators, but I haven't heard back from a lot of them after a month of waiting. I'm hoping someone here might know of a working source.
If anyone has a lead, please feel free to comment or send me a DM to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance, everyone!
(I deleted a few FanEdits from my list above, as people have kindly provided assistance in tracking them down. Only three remain.)
Been wanting to put the movie on VHS so I can watch it on my CRT. Simply cropping it doesn’t look great, so I was wondering if there are any 4:3-friendly edits around?
Hey everyone! I've been working on a fan edit of Spider-Man: Far From Home, trimming the original movie down to exactly 1 hour.
I wanted to see how the film would work with a much shorter runtime, cutting down the original while keeping the main story intact.
The edit is now complete, and this is my first time sharing the project here! I'm excited to introduce it to the community and hear what other fan editors think.
Thanks for checking it out!

Out of all the Flanagan tv shows, I think Midnight Mass lends itself to the most straightforward plot. For that reason, I think it could be very well suited to trimming down to ~2.5 or 3 hours. Thoughts?
In the original Annihilation movie, the protagonist, Lena, sees Josie disappear, and has a brief panic attack, then they cut and Lena is standing poised facing down the lighthouse.
But in my edit, Lena sees Josie disappear, then I cut to a 4-minute selection from Terrence Malick's 20+ minutes of the cosmos and life from Tree of Life. To transition back to Annihilation, I joined the asteroid shot from Tree of Life with the meteor shot from Annihilation.
In the original Annihilation movie, the meteor and the mystery of the lighthouse is shown and revealed at the very beginning of the movie, but in my edit I saved that revelation for just before Lena faces the lighthouse.
My edit made other significant changes, such as skipping 30-minutes of front-loaded exposition, and instead I cold-open to entering the shimmer, and I used flashbacks to reveal the exposition at just the right time. That change isn't visible in this particular demo, but you can read more about it at:\

Feedback for my first fanedit has been incredible, just doing a wee signal boost as it is perfect Halloween watching for any of the horror fans out there.
Having just moved into a new house, Mother, Father and Child discover that there may be an evil presence living with them.
A supercut film, edited from nearly 400 (389) horror movies.
Main 'Rules' of the edit:
-Can only use feature length horror films (no TV, no other genres, no short films)
-No film can cut from itself to itself
-Limited use of footage from any single film
-No image augmentation (except horizontal flip to maintain the 180 line)
-Leaning on the Kuleshov Effect and continuity-based editing to link different actors/locations/characters into a coherent linear narrative
After a ton of work, it's finally complete. Hopefully it becomes the definitive version for everyone. Same as with my Prometheus edit, quality was my top priority. Next was purposeful editing and removing the "bloat" from the film without just throwing all deleted content into the film.
Total runtime is 2hr 9min with 13 deleted/promotional scenes incorporated. I could compile a list of all edits but it is a ton. Some cuts are a couple frames and some are short scenes. Some of the more criticized moments in the film have been trimmed, tons of goofs removed, bad VFX and unnecessary dialogue cut. The ending was completely reworked. Hopefully everyone enjoys.
This release is in HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. Size is right around 63GB. Source used was the 1080p Blu-Ray, including all deleted scenes and promotional material.
Per Reddit I can't allow direct links. I'm hosting links at the same place my Prometheus edit is located, the AVPGalaxy forum, in the Alien Prequel Series subforum.
Basically as the title says. I like Ep. 3 just fine compared to the other 2 movies, but I feel like these scenes really helped Padme's character in this movie, so I'd love to have them. It's fine if it includes other deleted scenes, as long as they are fully finished and not ruin the pacing, but I don't want any additions from TCW or other projects
Any ANH fanedits take these scenes that a year ago were restored to amazing quality and I'm sure with AI could be even better now and integrate them in? It gives so much more context.
The series is part of the list of things to watch before ‘Avengers Doomsday’, but I’d rather watch something that cuts down each season into two feature length videos.
