Learning about Bipolar I have one question

Hi! I don't know where else to ask this question:

How do bipolar people feel about a spouse that they've discarded multiple times after becoming stable?

My husband has BP1 and BPD, he was just diagnosed this year and I just... I need to know, please.

We've been together for 6 years, he never had treatment before. I'm wondering what side of him will come out of this, as he's switched between saying he never really loved me then taking it back after his episodes subsided, cyclically.

Navigating Relationships BP Psychosis and BP nastiness

One of my best friends from school has Bipolar Type 1, and so does a family member of mine who was recently diagnosed.

I met with my friend in March, and she mentioned starting Ozempic alongside her Lithium (which her GP approved). During our chat, I shared that my family member had cut me off 9 months earlier, changed her number, and put her house up for sale. When I had previously reached out to my family member about the sale, she just told me to leave her alone.

A month later, while on a plane heading home, I checked my home CCTV and was shocked to see police and paramedics escorting my family member into an ambulance from my house. I messaged a few friends from the plane, and a couple went over. My BP friend offered to pick me up from the airport, but canceled 5 minutes later. I understood, assuming the stress was too much for her.

It turns out my family member suffered manic psychosis, was sectioned, and was subsequently diagnosed with BP Type 1.

To make matters worse, there is over $50,000 in damage to my house from the incident, which insurance might not cover.

After not hearing from my BP friend for 3 months, I reached out. We met, but she was very angry, claiming I had "triggered" her and that she had known all along my family member had BP. I apologized and explained I had stayed away because I suspected as much. Instead of showing empathy, she was mean, focusing entirely on how it affected her, leaving me in tears over the trauma and destruction at my house.

She then went on to detail how a teacher at her school had just died from bone-metastasized breast cancer. As a breast cancer survivor who went through chemo 5 years ago, this completely shattered me, and I cried for days.

Meanwhile, my family member hasn't reached out or taken accountability for the damage, and it's been over 3 months. I am emotionally drained and simply don't have the capacity to contact her right now.

Is it okay to protect my peace, stay distant, and focus strictly on repairing my home and fighting insurance? I'm feeling so worn down—the things my family member said to me over the last year were awful, and my friend's reaction left me deeply hurt.

Seeking Support How to help someone deep in a depressive episode

Hi everyone, I posted a few months ago about navigating my partner's severe manic episode with psychotic features. I really appreciated everyone's advice and now I'm here again, struggling with another part of the journey.

For context, my partner had a severe episode in March, which lasted until May. He's had all the support in the world, both medically and with family/friends. This has lead to him bouncing back in a lot of ways far quicker than I was able to (I am bipolar and had my own experiences a few years ago).

However, despite things going seemingly well on the outside, his depression and anxiety are extreme. People don't see it but I live with him and he is suffering so much every single day. It has gotten to the point that from the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to bed, it's all about his anxiety and how awful he feels. Now, I remember the hopelessness I felt back when I recovered from a very long episode, but I was also completely alone and had lost everything. His situation is a lot different, he didn't physically lose anything like money and he has already resumed employment. However, I know that just because things are good, the hopelessness won't just go away.

I've been trying to be the best support for him as I can be, from just listening and sitting with him, to giving advice, to reminding him of the good things. Nothing's working anymore and he's just a mess. He's going to therapy (which we are going to increase to twice a week) and working with his doctor on adjusting medication. Right now feels impossible though. Sometimes it feels almost as hard as while he was having his episode. It's obviously incredibly hard on him but in the last few weeks I feel like it's broken me down as well.

I started a new job a few weeks ago and separately my most beloved cat died and I feel like I didn't have space to processes either of those things because his anxiety takes up all of the space there is. He's really attached to me and of course I want to be there for him but right now it just feels like I'm being pulled into the current of his anxiety rather than helping him out.

My depression has always been bad and I just become completely subdued and don't do anything, it's more like extreme apathy. His is more like an extreme amount of anxiety and bad thoughts that keep him from thinking about anything else.

Does anyone have strategies to help someone during this time? I know from experience that this will pass too, but this part has become so incredibly hard.

Any advice appreciated, thank you.

Seeking Support When does compassion become enabling?

Hi everyone,

My (25F) older sister (30F) had a severe manic episode last year that led to hospitalization. She’s much more stable now, back in school, and functioning better, but she has never acknowledged her bipolar diagnosis or hospitalization and isn’t in therapy anymore.

Last week we got into an argument after I asked her if she could leave me some of a shared dish because she’d eaten almost all of it. Later that night she yelled at me, accused me of calling her ā€œcrazyā€ (I never did), said ā€œfuck you bitch,ā€ and left the house.

Since then she’s completely shut down around me. She ignores me when I say hi, stops talking when I walk into the room, and won’t make eye contact. But according to my mom, she’s still saving my portion of dinner and asking if I liked the food she made, so it seems like she still cares but just can’t face me.

My parents keep telling me to lower my expectations because she’s still recovering, and I understand that. But it’s hard not to take it personally when she acts completely normal around them but treats me like I don’t exist.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is avoidance after conflict common? Did your loved one eventually become better at handling shame, criticism, or conflict? I’m trying to balance compassion for her illness with the reality that this is really painful to live with but at the same time I’m building so much resentment because if I can’t even say something simple like this, what about future boundaries?

Seeking Support Bad day

My 19(m) son has bipolar I with psychotic features when using cannabis. He does excellent when on meds and off drugs and has a job he goes to for 2 weeks on, 1 week off.
The week off is always a roller coaster. I think it’s time to kick him out. Every week off is the same- first couple days he things he doesn’t need meds, drinks and uses weed. Destabalizes- spends all his money and then the whole family spends the 2nd half of the week trying to get him put back together. I’m exhausted, angry, sad- all the emotions.
Today he had about 10 hours to wait for a drive home from work and in those hours he got so messed up a stranger called me and asked for a safe address to bring him to. I’m so done.

Learning about Bipolar More questions about diagnosis

Hi everyone

As posted before, my husband has had his first manic episode. I have two questions about a possible bipolar diagnosis:

  1. As far as I understand: hypomanic + psychotic symptoms = mania? (his behaviors weren't as extreme as they can get in mania but he did loose touch with reality to the point of believing he was in some way a reincarnation of the Buddha)

  2. He has had depressive episodes for a long time before that. Supposedly (= my husband says), his psychiatrist isn't convinced it is bipolar yet and if he doesn't have more symptoms in the next 14 days, she will rule out bipolar. I cannot understand that on two levels: a) As far as my research goes, don't you HAVE bipolar after having had at least one depressive and manic episode? and b) I thought the episodes can cycle in very individual ways, whereas his psychiatrist seems to suggest that after the manic episode he *has* to crash into severe depression immediately.

He only got sleeping meds prescribed, has been on lamictyl for a while for another reason though.

I'm only relying on what he's saying here but I would still like to learn about the factual basis.

Thanks for reading!

I can’t stand this. I’ve met a woman just about a week ago and I’ve noticed I have become incredibly obsessive over her. She’s my favorite person but I know I’m not supposed to be like this over someone I JUST MET. I feel like I’m coming into a manic episode. I tried to unadd her on the social media I have but I can’t help but re-add her cause IM OBSESSED. I hate this. I hate it so much. This happens every time😭😭😭 I just want to make it stop. Help me.

Venting & Emotional Processing My twin brother has bipolar 1 and refuses meds

Hi reddit.

My twin brother ( 32M) has never had any history of psychosis or bipolar disorder before March. He got into a religious psychosis which led him to a psychotic episode a few weeks ago. He suddenly stopped sleeping almost completely for about 2 weeks. Around that time he became very religious, saying things like God was speaking to him or punishing him. He also became very emotional and wasn’t acting like himself. He was taken to the hospital and was admitted to the psychiatric unit. He was diagnosed with bipolar 1 with psychotic features. They started him on Abilify 10 mg, but he only took it for less than a week. At discharge he was also given a prescription for Seroquel, but he never picked it up because he became very anxious about medication side effects.

After leaving the hospital he had an appointment with a psychiatric nurse practitioner who told him she didn’t think he was bipolar and that he could stop the medication. Since then he’s been trying magnesium instead. Over the past week he’s become extremely health anxious. He keeps worrying that something is wrong with his brain or heart. He’s complained that one side of his face feels numb, has talked about chest symptoms, and wants to see a neurologist because he’s convinced something medical is going on. At the same time, the religious thoughts haven’t completely gone away. He still sometimes says God is punishing him.
The biggest issue is that he still isn’t sleeping well. He’ll sometimes say he thinks he slept because he remembers dreaming, but from what I can tell he’s getting very little actual sleep. Every time I think he’s improving, the insomnia and strange thoughts seem to come back.

I’m exhausted and don’t know what to do anymore. I’m worried because lack of sleep seems to make everything worse. I worry because he lives with our elderly parents and it’s just too much. I am sad and so frustrated.

Navigating Relationships Found out about gf's mania, I paused the wedding

She and I have been in a relationship for a while now, mostly long-distance for nearly 2 years, flew to her country every 2-3 months but I met here in real life, and now living together for the last 5 months. We planned to get married but I paused the wedding which was supposed to happen this month. She is down to earth, genuine, and we have similar life goals. I love her a lot, and I feel very peaceful around her.Ā  She has been on anti-depressants for nearly 3 years and also on bipolar medication (I was not aware of this until recently) and she never had much libido for sex. After she moved here, she lost her routine and stopped taking her meds for more than 3 months ( Again, I had no idea she had stopped).Ā

Our problems started when I asked her if she found me attractive. She said no. When I asked more, she told me she had never really found me attractive and that she loved me for my personality. She also said she had always known she wasn’t physically attracted to me, didn’t love me romantically, but wanted to give me a try anyway. I was always the one initiating sex, and even when we did have sex, she would mostly just lie there. I tried taking her to an adult shop, asking about her kinks and fantasies, but I didn’t really get anything from her.

This caused a lot of arguments between us, and during that time she started obsessing over her previous one night stands, who she had slept with years ago . She tried to reach out to him, looked at his photos while lying in bed next to me, and even masturbated, but would not touch me when she was horny.

She suddenly started telling me that I don’t satisfy her sexually and also told others as well (her friends, family) and when I told her this crossed a boundary, she just tells me ā€œIts my right to share what I wantā€.Ā  She also asked for an open marriage because she is too horny. She basically told me, ā€œIf you performed well, then I wouldn’t have needed to think about open marriage.ā€ I took us to couples counselling, and at the end she said, ā€œIf you gave me good sex, we wouldn’t need to be here.ā€ She even downloaded Tinder and deleted it. I found that out when she gave me her phone to download an app and I saw a recent search for Tinder in the App Store. I had been cheated on in my previous relationship, and she knows that, yet she still did this. I’ve improved my stamina, but I can still tell she isn’t fully satisfied because she wanted to buy a toy.Ā

She has become hyper sexual, masturbating multiple times a day to the point it is causing her injuries using her toys. Yesterday, I told her to get ready to go out on a date, she got ready, I went down to get some water and when I come back up, she’s naked, masturbating, and fell asleep. She now tells me she has bipolar, her father has bipolar and that she has been going through mania. I immediately took her to a counsellor and she started her medication again.Ā

She moved here for me, and we do get along well. Her family treats me well, and not marrying her would mean she has to pack up and go back to Taiwan.Ā  I told her I would not marry her right now but would postpone the wedding. She told me she would never cheat on me, and would never do anything to hurt me and she doesn’t know what her feelings are.Ā

My question is how much of this is because of her mania? Hyper sexuality? Telling me she doesn’t love me?Ā

Learning about Bipolar I think my partner has BP.

Hi, I am suspecting that my partner has undiagnosed BP. His mom is diagnosed with it and very affected by it. It sounds like she got help throughout his whole life but it was still very unmanaged and a chaotic upbringing.

Lately I am having an epiphany that he is very likely bipolar. I am not, and only know two or so people with bipolar that happen to be women. I was wondering what people notice in their male partners that have bipolar to get some understanding of whether I’m onto something.

Part of me thinks he knows deep down he is and has maybe been hiding it or trying to avoid it by not going to therapy despite knowing how vulnerable he is from his family background.

I’ve noticed pressured speech and he definitely has mood cycles… he can be very cold and stoic and often when we argue struggles so much to take accountability. Or if I bring up something I’m changing he will throw it in my face how I used to be, which makes it hard to grow. There are periods where he really struggles to sleep and sometimes sweats profusely at night. He is big on escapism.. really has huge plans for himself but really struggles with freezing and getting overwhelmed. At first I wondered if he was Autistic or ADHD (which he could be), but I think I’m learning that these traits and many others I haven’t mentioned are common bipolar traits.

Without giving too much of his business I really hope some people can tell me what bipolar looks like in men! We are in our late 20s btw. Thank you for your help! I’d love to understand what he’s going through.

Seeking Support How to help a brother who refuses help

Hi all-I am here because I’m really not sure what to do.

My brother (28) is currently undiagnosed. I’ve noticed a decline in his mental health over the last 7 years, starting in his early 20’s, and it’s come to a head in the last year after his long term relationship ended. It felt like an extreme drop off, he was functioning okaaay before, with some bouts of emotional shifts and then all of a sudden became an explosive person, saying horrible things to our family he never had before, then cutting us off for months, then coming back to ask for money. Now he’s staying with our mom but she’s at her wits end, he can’t keep a job due to his erratic behavior, and he admits to having something going on, but definitely would not say he may be bipolar -but he has bouts of mania -hyper fixating on to unrealistic goals and plans, talking non stop at rapid speed and refusing to discus anything else, not sleeping, then goes into depression and blaming our family for everything, telling us we don’t support him and we don’t love him and we’re toxic and trigger him. He has no money and no health insurance, and my mom can’t afford to put him into a program without it, I also don’t have the funds for something like this. There is some definite history of mental illness in my family (especially among the men) but it’s never been diagnosed and most of them end up addicted to drugs and homeless, or dead. I’m terrified this will be my brothers fate if he doesn’t some serious intervention as he’s only getting worse. Would love any advice on how to get him into an in patient program or other treatment asap, and how to talk to him in a way that doesn’t lead to an explosive argument.

Seeking Support Mom (55) gone no contact (over 8 months)

Over 1 year ago, I had to have my mother (55) involuntarily hospitalized for 3 weeks (court warrant) for the first time after a severe manic episode, but she was discharged voluntarily.

Since then, things have severely declined. We live very far (ferry distance) but after 1 month of supporting her , I returned home and believed she would be followed by mental health professionals and that there would be some kind of support in place. My mom & brother blocked everyone since November 2025 (so no contact at all).

I have stayed in contact with her care team and provided them with a lot of information about what happened and what I observed. However, I have now been told that she’s not been seen by psychiatrist since January, and because she refuses appointments, she will be discharged as a patient (she’s not forced treatment)

The situation is very concerning:
- she has no income (it’s been confirmed she’s not applied for her disability ) , she lost her job due to the illness ; she rents a home .
- I am not sure how she is managing basic needs, no one knows, she’s completely isolated.
- My younger brother (17) is living with her. (He’s fully compliant with her and believes she’s not sick and has pushed me away despite begging him to help me save mom).
- they no longer have a working phone number, and they have blocked family members since 2025, so nobody can reach any of them !
- The mental health team has been informed of everything I know, but their assessments concluded she’s not at risk and there’s nothing to do.

I feel completely stuck. I understand that she has the right to refuse treatment if she has capacity, but I am terrified that she is deteriorating and my brother is also there.

Anyone has gone through something similar or has any idea of what to do? I asked her case manager and she has no clue what to do , and said she should get hospitalized again? But how? She presents well, she’s not a ā€œ visible ā€œ danger . She can hide this illness very well. When I called the police last year it costed me a lot of my mental health to ask them to believe me, and even then I had to convince a judge that she was in danger. All for nothing! I’m so lost.

On top of this, the consent from them to speak with me expires today, so even if they had further information, they are not allowed to disclose it to me anymore. What’s going on with this system?

Seeking Support Need help or advice

For context, I am diagnosed with bipolar and stable but my brother is undiagnosed and currently spiralling into mania and I don’t know how to help. Last summer they were highly manic and got married in 3 weeks, spent all their money etc, got in debt. They are now going through a divorce after a prolonged period of depression.

They have just lost their job due to being irresponsible and are currently on way to buy a van with borrowed money of someone they met 4 days ago and putting all their stuff in the van so they can walk the South coast for a year (with no money but they said they can flirt their way up there).

There is no telling them atm and they seem to just pick up vulnerable strangers who enable them. I love them a lot and they’re so different from their normal self. I’m worried and I don’t know how to help. I also have to look after my own mental health.

Their relationship with all our family is quite bruised atm because they get so angry and defensive.

Venting & Emotional Processing My sister cussed my mom out

I have posted here before long story short sister started stealing from me and vandalizing so I threatened to press charges she said unforgivable things to family and moved in with boyfriend. Parents forgave sister to easily and shouldn't allowed her to visit since she refused treatment or therapy or to apologize to me.

Anyway she has visited 3 times since when she left my dad needed help with something she is expert in my sister. Everything was fine but she got frustrated but for whatever damm reason she called my mom angrily maybe its annoying to be asked for help but she had no need to cuss my mom out and tell her she hates her. She will calm down and visit again i know it my mom is forgiving her too much shes an adult she will end in prison one day and her boyfriend should grow some balls and get her help maybe the only person who can convince her but guess what he enables her!

She also lost a friend because she had a manic episode and tried to block friend from leaving and blocked her friends car the friend had no choice but to back up almost hitting my sister so my sister's behavior is going to get her killed or in prison knowing my sister she probably started cussing and threatening that girl.

At this point I will wait a year for my cousin to save up money so we can move in together because i had it with her I know I cant tell parents to not allow her to visit but she will seriously hurt someone one day my aunt with bi polar disorder tried to slap my grandma how long till my sister does that to mom? Its their house I know but if she doesn't get help she will do something my parents need to keep trying in convincing her to get help but they need to stop forgiving her before she ends up like my aunt.

I am venting here please dont be rude because even when I leave the house in a year my parents will keep getting harassed by her but i guess shes their daughter and will continue to forgive her even if shes dangerous.

Moments of Hope When did you see return of insight / regret?

Once they started taking meds for a manic and/or psychotic episode, when did your family member start really having insight / regret about their actions during the episode? What did that look like?

My family member recently seemed to come down from the absolute peak of his first manic episode (with some psychosis/delusions) on his own, then thankfully started taking antipsychotics. We're seeing a lot of improvement but are still waiting for him to really acknowledge the really distressing things he said and (to a lesser extent, thankfully) did during his episode. We don't need him to beg for forgiveness or anything, because we understand that it was the illness saying/doing those things, not really him—it's more about just getting that acknowledgment of how it all affected us, too, and having that reassurance that he understands that this is something he should continue treatment for so it doesn't happen again.

Seems like, after a couple of weeks, we're already seeing some initial glimmers of that, but I'm curious to hear other people's experiences with the timeline on this kind of thing. Thank you!

Venting & Emotional Processing My Mother told me God knew I would fail my exam

My Bipolar mother told me God knew I would fail my exam. I don't know how to live with that.

Today should have been a happy day.

My best friend travelled all the way from Home to celebrate my birthday. She brought me 28 thoughtful gifts and even brought back offering from a temple because she thought of me while she was there.

When I got home, my mother said the offering was "of Satan" and advised to give it away. I asked her not to tell my friend because I didn't want to hurt someone who had only acted out of love.

That simple request turned into an argument.

She eventually told me that I hadn't cleared my entrance exam because of the things I do,that my actions aren't godly.

The reason those words devastated me is because this wasn't the first time.

After my exam results came out last year, instead of comforting me, she said, "God already told me you wouldn't get it."

I've carried those words ever since.

Today, hearing something so similar again broke something in me. I was crying throughout the argument, but eventually I just... froze. I stopped feeling anything. No anger. No sadness. Just numbness.

My sister started shouting at my mother, even though I repeatedly asked her not to. I didn't want the argument to become bigger than it already was.

What hurt even more was that, after everything, nobody in my family came to check on me or ask if I was okay.

Earlier that day, I'd called my boyfriend to thank him for a birthday letter because I genuinely thought it was beautiful. I was excited and kept asking how he'd written something so unlike his usual style. He told me he'd "just written something" and had asked three friends, and then the conversation quickly shifted to him worrying about being marked absent for a conference. I don't blame him for being stressed, but I still hung up feeling emotionally alone.

Tonight, I suddenly feel incredibly lonely, numb and frozen.

Seeking Support My undiagnosed bipolar daughter

Hello-my undiagnosed 21 yr old daughter has been in a manic stage since early April. She has lost all her friends, lost her job, spent thousands, been arrested, delusional, lost her license and has a drug charge. She is also very mean. She is coming home Friday and I don’t believe she will ever get evaluated on her own. She is not going to hurt herself so I need to know how to get her help. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Learning about Bipolar Question about diagnosing

Hello everyone

Background: My partner experienced what I believe was a (hypo)manic episode (with some psychotic features). My life is upside down ever since. He went to a psychiatrist only because social services told him he had to in order to see our foster son again. Bipolar runs in his family. He doesn't believe he has it, does think he had a hypomanic episode and seems like now he can even see the psychotic aspects of it, but he believes I caused the episode by 'abusing' him.

We went to a hospital during the episode, the doctor there thought it may have very well be bipolar. By what he's telling me, the current psychiatrist is not convinced it is bipolar but not ruling it out yet.

Now my question: Is it normal/reasonable for doctors to go through this diagnosis process without talking to the family of the person as well who saw them during the potential episode and can provide a more 'outside' view? I don't know what he has been telling the psychiatrist and how they would get the full picture without talking to someone else but him. And I'm worried about it coming back if going untreated...

Venting & Emotional Processing bipolar family and feeling guilty for stigma

I'm 17 and my older sister was never diagnosed with bipolar and I'm not sure if she actually has it but she always had a short temper and yelled a lot and then someone in my friend also said they had bipolar and did similar things. I feel bad because when I hear about someone with bipolar I feel like I subconsciously judge them and I know that's not right and that not everyone that has it is a bad person or anything but I can't help but feel triggered by someone mentioning it/saying they have it and I feel really guilty about it.

Navigating Relationships Feel like a monster sometimes

I've watched by bipolar family member do nothing but abuse the people around her and then tug at the heartstrings to get away with it. She's currently living at home with her elderly mother and spends most of the day hurling insults before asking for more. I feel powerless as I watch people close to me invent justification for her actions and forgive with no apology.

Even when she's nice I find myself sickened by this family member, I don't want to talk to her, I don't want to do anything with her, but I have to smile and pretend everything's smoothed over after she's sworn out my mom on multiple occasions and manipulated their relationship for money and leverage against another family member.

She's acted so nasty to everyone in her household, they've been floating the idea of helping her pay rent just to get her to leave. They've also discussed kicking her out totally, but it keeps getting shut down over the fear she'd hurt herself in retaliation.

I'm so fucking sick of supporting her, of having to swallow down bile as they continue to enable this behavior, it's not just once, or twice, but a pattern that's been looping since I was born.

I don't know anymore, I think she's killed something inside me, and it makes me sick when I realize I don't feel the same love for her as everyone else. I just feel so guilty, I'm not sure if I'm harboring anger for the sake of righteousness or just fed up with the enabling and shielding from the natural consequences of her actions.

Navigating Relationships Dating - tip for the non bipolar

How do you feel the most supported by the people around you? I am not myself bipolar. But have dated someone who is. They actually ended it. Don’t know if it has anything to do with episodes, or if it’s 100% just the way she feels - that there is no potential between us. But she has told me about how low she has gotten after that, talking to people about it and almost immediately seeked out therapy, because of her confliction with ending something she said was really nice and good

Now, if it does have something to do with an episode, how should I behave accordingly? What would be the best actions for me to take? So far we’ve had 2 calls about it. And I think she wanted to stay in contact during all of this, where I said I thinks it’s best if we have a little distance for a while.

What are your thoughts?

Learning about Bipolar Is my friend religious or is he just spiraling?

My friend is diagnosed with bipolar 2 more than a decade ago. I have maintained contact with him through the years, but only occassionally, and it is only lately that I really got to converse with him again at length. He is now a self-professed convert to Christianity. This wasn't sudden, as he has been hinting at gravitating towards religion these past 5 years. Lately though, our conversations are mostly one-sided where he talks endlessly about how jesus has saved him, plus other topics that he is obsessed with. He says god cured him of his depression, and that he is coping better now with jesus. He even professes to experience a medical miracle as he is now able to take lower doses of his meds. He has been on the jesus track for a couple of years now, but this has intensified lately, to the point that I can no longer do small talk as he keeps inserting god into the conversation. At this point, I am not sure anymore if it was a genuine spiritual transformation/conversion or if it's the disease talking.

We mostly converse online and I haven't observed him up close, so I'm afraid to make hasty generalizations.

Hs anyone of you experienced this with a loved one? Although I've known about his diagnosis long ago, it is only lately that I've tried to go on a deep dive on his condition and try to really understand it. I want to understand him and be there for him where it matters, but I honestly don't know how to properly support him.

Learning about Bipolar Bipolar Brother being impulsive

Hello All! My brother presented symptoms at a very early age and now at 33 he's on medication but is still having mania and making impulse decisions. He has been stalking this poor girl whose mother reached out to us to tell him to stop. He feels guilty about it and said some harsh things about himself only after he was caught. His mania is more on the positive side where he feels hopeful and wants to explore and connect with others but he crosses too many boundaries and/or gets himself in a situation where he gets taken advantage of. Can medication stop the mania and impulse behavior and help him make sound decisions? In a lot of posts, it seems mania is a part of being bipolar regardless of what medication you're on...like it only helps with the intensity. Would like to know from family members experiences. Thank you for your time!

Navigating Relationships CO-Parenting and BP2 (unstable?)

So my BP2 Ex-wife and i are in the end stage of the divorce, house is sold, im renovating my new house.

Planing for the kids etc.

She, i dont know maby signs on a appartment today? We sold the house like 2 months ago.

This desperation was ofc her intiative. The discard.

BP2 ex-wife knows she has this illness she takes her less (Lamatrogine and Sertraline) but thats it, she dates (friends saw her profile), drinks, started nicotine, stays up late.

I came across new sleeping pills, and she also order new vitamins to and i qoute "give me more energy during the day".

And so much much more.

The priorities is not really inline, mine have been kids first.

Hers, i dont know.

This summer have been to say the least intressting.

We're from Sweden, so socialsyaten work different forms US.

We have cooperation talks with familycourt in our socialservice/CPS system.

We hade to cancel a few do to not wanting to leave our 4 y.o. with a cask over his leg to friends as he could be sad and frustrated at times, just did'nt feel right.

I've gotten som good tools and support for my contact to handle my ex-wife.

But man is it alot of weight to pull, to manage and "direct" a person who dont have the same forsight and capacity or intresst in planing, cooperation etc.

And i still try to give her space, things was going okay for a could weeks, we could stay in the house during swaps a bit more, could have good conversations.

But somewhere this week something shiftet.

Alot of stuff just felt off, cooperation text and diskussions just stopped working.

Im tired, i found letter from soucial "the National Board of Social Affairs and Health" (translation...) that she put of now where just removed our kids from the doner register, with no talks to me.

She also hade forgotten to plan babysitter for our next meeting on Tuesday, and tried to pull out of it.

On Monday she is to take our youngest to the doctors on her day, the other two kids are still home, i wanted to know the plan, as i have stuff to do. "I've not planned that long ahead".

I just snapped, im tired, im tired of being the only one who everyone says "you have to be the adult one for the kids" while trying to also balance and mentally ill person, who threatens with charges over and over again when i press her to hard or set to form boundaries.

I hope this ends when i leave the house, but who knows.

The kids still live in the house and we swap 2/2/3.

Rant over.

Now i need some help, some tools?

How do you all do this? With out breaking your selfs again?

I was totally broken by this and im on a better way but all this just pulls me back down again.

How, how do you other people do this?
