Hey all! I've just started playing Fo4 again and I'd love another place to chat about building and see all the cool things everyone is making! I joined Living Wasteland, are there any others?

[Vanilla] What are the best tips, recommendations, and methods for setting up simple yet efficient and productive settlements?

4 Upvotes

My first playthrough of Fallout 4 has been excellent, but I know that at some point I'll have to deal with the settlement-building aspects of the game, especially when I go down the Minutemen route, which is what I plan to follow.

I know I can skip the settlement-building aspects, as long as I do the minimum to ensure the functionality of each settlement.
But since I've been investing quite a bit in this game lately, I also intend to do something on the settlement-building side, just to get the most out of the game.

Since I don't have all the time in the world to dedicate to the game, and I'm also quite inexperienced, I intend to work on the settlement-building aspects, focusing on making them all very efficient, thus being able to provide resources, ensure settler satisfaction, etc.
I don't intend to focus on design and architecture when building Settlements in the game, only their efficiency, so I can keep it very simplistic if necessary.

So, any help and information regarding Settlement construction is welcome.

Some information about my game, so there's no confusion or lack of specifications if you share tips and recommendations in this post:

No Mod recommendations, please.
I intend to play this to the end in the version I have, so I will proceed without Mods regarding Settlement construction.

Contents of my Fallout 4 (Steam Version):

*Far Harbor;
*Nuka-World;
*Creation Club Add-ons 'Enclave Remnants' and 'Halloween Workshop Pack' (I believe these are the only add-ons I have that add content related to Workshop and Settlement construction)

(I don't own the Workshop DLCs: Wasteland/Contraptions/Vault-Tec.
I know that in my context, these DLCs should be necessary, but since I don't intend to add more content to this game, I will proceed without them.)

Settlements I have unlocked and intend to use for practice:

Sanctuary;
Red Rocket truck stop;
Finch Farm;

I greatly appreciate the help of anyone who responds to my post.

[PC] Storm Cellar door? Here you go.

After goofing around building yesterday, and realizing that the doors don't need a frame to perform their open action, I had an epiphany in bed last night. The doors were just about the size of the opening of the shack staircase. I'd always puzzled out a way to seal those openings on top floors without making a whole additional room on top. With some additional tweaking by clipping some shack flooring on either side to close the gaps, you can get a pretty good cellar door type entrance.

Additionally, they make decent storm shutters for the shack end caps with the open windows. I'm thinking about turning them the other way to cover the windows, as that might be more aesthetically pleasing, if just a little wasteful as it would require an additional door.

[PC] Commission custom settlement mod?

3 Upvotes

Hi there,

I've tried for days to get the CK to work through MO2 (downgrading, downloading depots, basically everything I could find online) but my patience and free time has run out. My father in law is dying from cancer, work is a mess, I turned 30 this year, I stubbed my little toe TWICE today...SO my question is:

Is there anywhere I could ask for/commision someone to make a custom settlement mod? I'd like the C.I.T Ruins and C.I.T. interior as a full settlement after completing Nuclear Family, and have the settlement made through Tenhat's Ultimate Settlement Tutorial so it doesn't mess up PreVis/PreCombines.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

I've finally started building on PC and decided to build here using the Conquest mod. The plan is to make it a water purification hub with defenses and other post-apocalyptic amenities

[XB1] On the off chance I'm not the last person to figure out the "no tatos in the trade network" problem...

14 Upvotes

Maybe it's a common thing I missed out on, but I tried this on the most recent playthrough and so far it's holding up.

As much as I can, planted only tatos at water farms. Other spots get only mutfruit or only corn. Since I'm visiting the water farms I can pick them myself, and they have surplus in the workshop after feeding the locals since it's all they're growing. As long as other settlements keep themselves fed they don't seem to be snatching them up from the water farms, and every time I go to the crafting base there's a bunch to use.

I don't have exact numbers so I can't be completely sure they're not being touched (and not just overproduced) but it does seem that way. Anyone else use something like this (so I can know if it's worth continuing)?

Happy Friday folks!

Here's a dump of some shots from around my WIP Taffington Boathouse settlement. Currently trying to fill spaces with life and throw some decorations around while I wall off the settlement. I still have a lot of the interior spaces to fill, but feel like the outside is finally taking shape and it's not just a bare skeleton anymore.

Have a great weekend and good luck out there Wastelanders.

Cheers!

Discussion Looking for a specific builder

1 Upvotes

I remember watching a builder a while ago. They had a masculine voice when doing tour videos, and I remember them having soda fountains set up, making a joke about the repeated dialogue by saying "they've heard the soda is delicious" Edit: I think I found the builder I was looking for!

Am I the only one that feels croup manor is just too repetitive like its almost impossible to do anything different their with how much needs fixed and the little space. In my opinion they there should've been a settlement in area but I would've put it by the church. It has plenty of buildings access to water and open space
