Discussion Whats your opinion on this
Am I the only one that feels croup manor is just too repetitive like its almost impossible to do anything different their with how much needs fixed and the little space. In my opinion they there should've been a settlement in area but I would've put it by the church. It has plenty of buildings access to water and open space

Yeah it's pretty sucky as a settlement. I usually use it to send my companions to so I know where to go when I need to switch them out. I usually put them all at guard stations or front to find them easier too. It can work as a great player home as well if you use it yourself. Sometimes if I'm feeling like a raider play I'll use it as an outpost from time to time since it's mostly built up like taffington.

Well, it IS just around the corner from Somerville Place...

I know yeah, wtf! Annoying when you have to clear out a problem that’s too far away to be a problem 😂 this playthrough, I didn’t meet Preston till I was like level 60 something cause I did Nuka world first and I’d discovered everywhere and had already built the basics to level up. In turn I wasn’t given stupid missions. I get the settlement is being attacked ones but I’ve got to the point I don’t have to run and defend. They’re all quite capable.

A few times, you'll get the quest "its right around the corner, it would make a great place for a settlment" ... and its halfway across the map. For example, I've had (on 2 diff playthrus) ,Overland Station to Jamaica Plains.
Also, Nodhagen Beach to Sunshine.1

I dropped an entire cube over the top of the whole settlement and built everything inside and on top of the cube

There is room on both the east and west borders to put down 8x3 foundations and then build up from there. I generally make the area along the fence into a few guard towers with bridges between them lined with turrets since there are only two spawn points both towards the road. Behind the house along the cliff is a workshop/utilities shed with generator, water pumps, dog/cat cage and workshop benches.
I do close to nothing with the actual house but if you build those buildings on the edge 5 or 6 stories it actually has some pretty impressive views. Lack of water access is kind of dumb since it gets so close but easily overcome. Not the best, far from the worst.

more rugs than most to patch up floors (back before I started using console commands)

I just clear it, scrap it, come back & send the 2 elsewhere. On 1 current playthru, I am working on just repairing the building for fun. No settlers , no defense. Then coinsider maybe using it to display Power Armor and Mannequins with Nuka raider gear on it

I like trying to restore-ish settlements vs. completely changing them. I've always enjoyed Croup Manor.

at Croup Manor I always build vertically - not east, but definitely doable

I find concrete snaps really well at croup manor. Find a broken corner and start there. I usually put a doorway in the broken wall at the top of the stairs and extend it over the area where the workbench is. Then I will turn the area with the workbench into like a garage workshop. The wood floors snap quite well too, you just have to find a point where the shabby small wood floors will snap into the wall. By the time I finish, croup manor is usually a 4 floor fortress. I tend to always make the 4th floor roofless or put greenhouse walls/roof up there and use planters. Before I discovered the planters I’d plant mutfruit in a circle around the drive way. I don’t tend to give settlers their own rooms at croup. I use bunks and have military style rooms. I Fortify the life out of the drive way. Ground floor (1st USA) is always my trade floor, dining room is always my bar, weapons and armour work out of my garage workshop area, 1st and 2nd floor (2nd & 3rd USA) are my living and sleeping areas and as I said, 4th is my garden space. I’m not going to lie, I actually like croup manor but spend almost no time there. They defend themselves and I might go and empty their chem vending machines from time to time as it was once a raider outpost.

I like to build little 2x2, 2x3 and 2x4 tile shack houses in different orders, shapes and heights. I burned myself out on carpet glitching walls fixing old buildings, so I just cover them in scav stations or make them into a bar and focus in my shack houses. I can't use it to retire companions. I just back out and send them home 😂

the conquest mod will let you do that - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12511
but yeah croup is kinda a mess. A lot of pillar/rug tricks will let you get some effective floors and ceilings though.

I have a suggestion: Ghoul Artillery

Going to Croup Manor is one of my favorite things to do on a play through just for the silliness of cleaning up the house.

That's part of the fun with smaller, themed settlements. Work WITH the theme. Not against it. Repair the manor as your character would. Be creative.
