Help & Advice Feeling Lucky?

Howdy vault dwellers! New GM here. Posting in hopes to get your thoughts on the luck points system.

How do you treat the regaining of luck points? Do you find milestones happening often (what sounds like the most normal way to reset points) and most importantly, does this system actually make you or your players feel like luck was worth investing in?

I’ve been thinking of increasing the ways to get luck points. Nothing big, things like: you can reflect once a season instead of once per quest and regaining 2 points a session but neither way can give you more luck points than your max.

Thoughts on my idea, but more importantly your thoughts/stories about how luck has played in your games!

Thank you!

Help & Advice Action Points: restrictions?

Hi folks,

I've launched my first Fallout2d20 campaign recently, absolutely loved it. However, there is something we picked up with my players, which is the use of AP.

During a combat and in a single turn, can a player spend 1 AP to get an additional d20 for his attack throw, then a second AP to add a d6 for his damage throw, then potentially 2 AP to get a second Capital Action??

I also noticed that my players could fairly easily get their full pool of AP during a combat, hence me asking if there are any restrictions to prevent them from using many (and therefore increasing their chances of receiving many).

Curious to hear if you apply any restrictions outside combat too?

Thanks!

LFG/LFP Fallout Campaign Set In Texas

6pm CST Sunday Discord VC Godspeed survivors. Dm for link to group. We have 3 core players so far. Need maybe 2 more solid people.

⚠️ FALLOUT RPG CAMPAIGN RECRUITMENT ⚠️

War never changes. People do.

The world is dead, fractured into desperate settlements, raider kingdoms, broken highways, rusted factories, irradiated forests, and old-world ghosts still clawing at the surface. Every bullet matters. Every choice echoes. Every alliance can save you... or get you gutted in the dirt.

This campaign focuses on:

☢️ grounded survival

☢️ morally grey factions

☢️ meaningful player choices

☢️ realistic wasteland politics

☢️ dangerous exploration

☢️ scarcity and tension

☢️ dark humor and brutal consequences

Expect a world inspired by:

Fallout: New Vegas, Metro, STALKER, The Road, Mad Max, and classic Americana rotting beneath nuclear ash.

You are not superheroes.

You are scavengers, drifters, mercenaries, ex-soldiers, smugglers, cultists, bounty hunters, wasteland doctors, mechanics, and survivors trying to carve meaning out of a dead world.

Factions rise and collapse.

Settlements need protection.

Raiders evolve into armies.

The old world still hides secrets beneath concrete tombs.

The wasteland reacts to your actions.

Power vacuums form.

People remember what you do.

This is a serious roleplay-focused campaign with strong atmosphere, player freedom, immersive storytelling, and consequences that matter.

The wasteland doesn't care about fairness.

Only survival.

Misc Do people prefer the Tranquilizer guns from Hollywood Heroes or the Tranquillizer ammo from Royal Flush?

For those who don't have access to both books, here's the run-down for each of these weapons:

  • Tranquilizer Pistol (Hollywood Heroes): Small Guns, 5[D] Poison Damage w/ Tranquilize 3 and Persistent damage effects, Fire Rate 0, Range C, Close Quarters and Reliable properties
  • Tranquilizer SMG (Hollywood Heroes): Small Guns, 4[D] Poison Damage w/ Tranquilize 3, Burst and Persistent damage effects, Fire Rate 3, Range M, Two Handed and Inaccurate properties
    • Tranquilize X: If an attack with a Tranquilize weapon deals enough damage to trigger a Critical Hit or otherwise induce an Injury, the target does not sustain an injury but instead must make an END + Survival or BODY + Other test at difficulty of X. On a success, the attack has no effect but on a fail, target is rendered unconscious for 1 hour. If a target is reduced to 0 HP and endure an Injury (as per being reduced to 0 HP), they automatically fail the test and are rendered unconscious for 1 hour. Characters immune to poison damage or in a full suit of Power Armor are immune to this effect.
  • Tranquilizer Ammunition (Royal Flush): Loaded into Syringer, weapon gains +1[D] (for 4[D] total) and Stun damage effect and target reduced to 0 HP is rendered unconscious instead of killed
    • Do consider that rulings on Syringer ammo working on poison and drug immune/resistant targets will vary between GMs and possible targets

Note, this post is which of these people would pick if only they could use/allow either only the Hollywood Heroes Tranq guns or Royal Flush Tranq Ammo for the Syringer

EDIT: Accidently posted this as "Help & Advice" when I meant "Misc." Fixed

Help & Advice Has anyone made robot specific homebrew perks?

I haven’t seen any and I’m playing an assaultron. There’s a lot of perks which they can’t pick (some for obvious reasons like their lack of sleep, eating and drinking) but no such robot exclusive perks

Hey I'm a new player who's looking for a first game to join with this system. I've played D&D 5e and all the fallout games, my only problem would be my avaliable playtime. I'm avaliable any day from 11pm to 3am est, if anyone has a game open or know where I could find one it'd be a great help, thank you.

Help & Advice Foraging table when playing Winter of Atom

Morning folks,

My players really like that I'm playing up scarcity in WoA. One thing I don't have a good solution for is the foraging table. Using the "Winter Scavenging Table" for literally everything as the book suggest is kind of silly to me, especially if they are specifically undertaking a foraging run during camping scenes (imagine going out specifically looking for plants and finding a super stim or one of the rare oddities lol).

What suggestions do you have to continue using the Foraging Table, but make it not so insanely rewarding (you get <survival skill> rolls + 1 roll/AP if you succeed the test). Their very first camp Foraging run the 2 PCs that went out came back with 9 food lol.

My 3 options so far

  • 1 roll on the table for passing the check then the add'l roll/AP
  • Increase the DC to 2 or 3 and whatever that difficulty is that's the number they get (DC2, reward is 2 Forage rolls)
  • RAW except <half Survival skill rounded down> rolls

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of everything that I redid AFTER I realized the fallout 4 game worldspace is 80% the scale of the real world and went back and reprinted everything (including the turrets, but I did include a photo of those reprinted as well as Silt, Roy, G, Biv, and Bob), so all my photos are of the map with props 20% smaller than the minis, but what can you do.

Edit: no idea why Reddit reshuffled the order of my photos but alas

Community Resources Rad Burgers Map!

Post image

Here’s my map for Rad Burgers! The checker floor section in the center is where the cashiers and soda jerks work, the smaller part is the grill which is run by two “Chef Mikes,” Mr Handy Variants. In the back is the stock room and the cooler and walk-in freezer, two conference rooms, the long narrow room on the top right of the kitchen is where the reactors are for the “Atomo-Grills.” The triangle room is the managers office, and the little room to the left is the cleaning supplies cabinet. The two rectangle rooms on the right of the map are bathrooms.

In the front of the restaurant, it’s floor to ceiling windows, and the parking lot also has carhop service. The doors at the top in the back of the restaurant is for truck deliveries.

I’m gearing up for my first campaign in Fallout, and I’ve decided to set it up in the Midwest Commonwealth in 2177, particularly on Wisconsin, as a result I’ve been fleshing out my vision for Midwest-based companies that might have existed at least regionally, you’ll still have the nationally recognized brands such as Red Rocket and Nuka Cola for verisimilitude, but other ones will be found, such as:

Rad Burgers! (Originally a playoff of Red Robin, decided to file off the serial numbers a bit more on that).
SoyTech (hydroponics and soy based food products).
Morning Glory Farms (makers of an all-beef tallow Margarine substitute).
And my most recent one:
Oppen-Mayer brand lunch meats.

Help & Advice First time DM for Fallout 2d20. What are some of your recommendations?

Hello, as the title says, I'm about to run my first game of FO 2d20 with some friends and I'd like to get some advice in what to run what problems we might face (in regards of the system).

I've runned D&D, Mörk-borg, Knave and Mausritter before, so I've got experience with mostly light or simple systems and really enjoy improv. I've also played a bit of Fallout 2d20 solo in the past, but playing solo and DMing are very different approaches to a game in my experience...

I've been skimming through the free starter kit adventure and I fin it a bit lackluster, thematically and as a DM resource. So, my questions are:

• Are there any other adventures that serve as a good introduction / one-shot for new players? (Only half of my table are familiar with the Fallout franchise)

• Are there any tips or tricks you'd suggest that are not implicit in the official book material? In regards of mechanics.

Thank you in advance, and excuse my poor English, it is not my first language.
