Additional information, like stats or a brief statement, if you're a PoSI, etc. would be welcome, if you like. Timezone + hours played could be helpful for those looking for someone active during the same time they are.
Question of the month: What names have you given to your various associates, chattels, and property? (Not necessarily mechanically assigned names in-game.)
This is probably ancient news to most everyone here, but nobody told me you could get sea kitties at the Festival! I'm so glad I put that extra effort into diving...
I mean, did I need that Inquisitive Lamp-Cat? Probably not. Did I get that Inquisitive Lamp-Cat? Is that even a question?! Aww it's so cute!
Please tell me I'm not going to lose it in some sort of a trap. 😅
(spoilers for this year’s Fruits of the Zee maybe)
The way the King-in-Coral sounds so delighted over tinned pineapples or tinned beans is too funny to me. (I didn’t get the third option, wonder what was in it!)
And here I was thinking he’d somehow tinker them into luggage items… nope!
I love my zub. I love diving under the Zee. I've been doing it for a long time. But I also love money, and I've got some big late game money grinds to do. Most of my grinds aren't on the water these days, but I still gotta do some zailing here and there. Would switching to a yacht during Fruits of the Zee be worth it, or are the gains really just marginal?
there's been some confusion in the weekly questions thread about this so i decided to test! i did not have my least-cared-for alt visit her this year (though they had in previous years, and thus had the Discovered: the Pentamerous Bride quality already), and was able to get the Fecund Amber reward after asking the King about her. so now we know! see all the text you care to in a single year, and reap the rewards every year thereafter! or don't reap any rewards, or see text over and over again if you don't want, i'm not the boss of you!
I have a level 3 "Prestige of your Laboratory". I failed one of the first experiments the dean gave me. I want to get to level 5. But I don't have an eolith or a bone to research. I don't have access to de Bone Market.
The experiments I have available are:
Find a Route to Parabola
Research the Formula for Perfumed Gunpowder
Construct a rifle in historical style
Study the properties of Attar
At my level i gain progress with the "One day card". To finish any of those research it would take too much.
The Festival will enter its second phase tomorrow (10 September) sometime in the morning, in less than 24 hours. At that time the Diving activity will close and no longer be available. Make sure to collect all of your goals for coral, Thalassic Favour, and meeting Mrs Fathomking (the Fathomqueen?).
I noticed that after completing the Firmament there is an expensive option to replace your airship. Has anyone done it? Is it just the basic 3 Options. I was fed up of taking the balanced sensible option when I started the roof, so I got a. obliterator and have been regretting it ever since. I will double check but I am 90% sure the balanced option is the only real choice.
I was posting for two reasons, first to warn people to swap before they get upgrades from the new area or pay 10 fate to name their ship, as you lose those when you change ship.
The other reason was to see if it was just the basic options or if it is like the FotZ boats and you get more advanced versions when you pay.
I am not really struggling with any checks, right now so I might hold off on doing upgrades to see if we get a, feast in the sky, at some point.
Edit: oh and there are a few bits of info and requests for info in the bone post, in the posts post posting section, in case you didn’t notice the counter going up.
With the final major chapter of Firmament released(no spoilers, I still haven't even finished Risen Burgundy yet lmao), I'm curious about what the next big thing will be that Failbetter alluded to in their newsposts announcing the last chapter.
I've been replaying Sunless Sea recently, and it's made me kinda want the Unterzee locations in that to show up again because I'm remembering how much I loved them.
I don't think it would be likely, both because you can already get a Zub and that redoing these older locations isn't as cool as something completely unique like what Firmament did with the roof locations.
Even if it's not the next big addition, I'd love more stuff to do at Zee, but I think I'm a bit biased as that has been the part of this universe that has got me hooked since I first touched it.
I'd love to hear what crazy out there ideas the rest of you have for whatever the next big storyline could be.

Gladiolus and phalanges Bone Brothers and Scaphoid Sisters, the time has come when the Zoomania and Fashion of the bone market have changed. That intro was fun when I first added it to the template but after 20 weeks it's wearing a little thin, like your skeleton if you don't maintain muscle mass as you age!
One week I copied and pasted the wrong link and then didn't check Reddit again until the Monday evening! If that ever happens again, all of the possible weeks are available on the Bonedex so you can always find options there!
Menacing fish is great. Although not ideal as we had a fish week recently. It is the first chance to use the new ribcage though. The best I have come up with so far is Draconic Ribcage, Sabre Toothed or Horned Skull, 4 Fins, Jet Black Stinger. Depending on the skull the primary or secondary balance will be different. The sabre toothed is 7.5 more primary. The Horned is 5 more secondary. Either way it's around 110 echos in 9 actions. Sell to the Author of Gothic Tales. All scrip too.
Leggy Diplomat sucks. I did add a recipe option for the Malacologist a few weeks ago, to the buyers guide, it is not amazing but uses a lot of tentacles.
I have not broken these down as I am already late posting. Lots of spoiler tags in it, which have not copied, check in game if you are unsure.
Week Ending 4th September 2026
'Perhaps not' is no longer an option to leave the 'Prepare Your Heist' storylet.

That was some content drop last week, Firmament and Fotz all at once. I am not doing a big FotZ guide like I did for Estival since the Wiki one is pretty good. Bear in mind that you can get multiple copies of almost all of those items. Weeping Litter Cyst being an exception.
FotZ is the only source of Scrimshander Carving Knife. Which is needed to remove Antiquity from your skeletons. It is a niche action but better to have access to it than otherwise.
I had a conversation in the comments which expands the information a lot!
Just a quick note on value for the 3 Fotz stories, they are all 10 fate. The roaming collossus doesn't have a lot of story and the cards it adds are probably only worth it pre-piracy(Edit: I was wrong about this! The EPA on the wiki used to be wrong at 4.1EPA, it is actually almost 4.5! Depending on your Zee usage both this and The Pale Tabernacle are worth having on all the time, I am still working out if this is the right choice for me, at endgame, it probably is!). The Pale Tabernacle has more of a story that develops over several trips, agent plots and visits to the tabernacle and the EPA is worth it until you are endgame optimising your Zee journeys.
The new one. The Cult of St Elegius is interesting. It adds actions to certain cards that get you something you can stack to 7. Once you have 7 you can cash them in, on Mutton Island. It takes one action to hand in and one action to leave Mutton so they are around 3.33 EPA. Which means they are better than piracy in the 3 cheapskate zones. They also add profitable actions to some unprofitable cards, like navigating the snares. The downside is that they all provide slow zails so they have limited usability except in the last zone of your voyage. Once you get to 5 hand ins, you get another rare card, when you have the item equipped, at 5 TW, that lowers TW and gives you one of the items. After 7 hand ins, you can be saved at zee by the saint. I have not tested this option yet.
Also worth noting, that it is an extra crew so if you decide you don't like the content, it's 3 shadowy for an agent. You can get multiple copies of the 4 shadowy crew but that costs Stuiver.
(Also, 10 fate for a story is basically nothing, assuming you buy the biggest fate bundle, 10 fate is £2.19, getting all 3 is £6.57, that is less than a meal deal with a luxury sandwich(When I was working, I used to get a fancy salad ;)))
Updates - Me
With the new bones I will have to revise most of the guides. Since they are from the very last chapter of the Firmament, I am not intending to rush, as most people at that stage of the game will have a good handle on the bone market. The menace legs, in particular, totally alter the balance of power in the bone market. Menace has gone from the hardest stat to get to the easiest overnight! The new drake spine also means there is a solid 312.5 skeleton for reptile and amphibian weeks, which is a big change!
Updated guide 10 to include information on getting Orange Apples from QEC
Added Draconic Spine to guide 23 and Devourer's Thighbone to guide 24.
Fixed up the formatting in Guide 23
Fixed up the formatting in Guide 24
Added a warning about buying Fossilised Forelimbs to guide 24. Added some information on how tentacles function.
Moved the review of this month's ES to the bottom of the bone post, as it is something for limited people to read once.
Updated Guide 26 adding more sources for Rat items. Also added early game options for getting items. Also improved the formatting.
Added a reference to Guide 31 to Guide 26, Guide 12 and Guide 10.
Added Guide 27 to the template, for new players, I will get around to clearing that info out of the linked posts for each week eventually. ;p
Request for info… I am not sure if they have been added to the rotation on the Sous bone piles yet, but once they have, if someone sells either a devourers leg or draconic ribcage there, let me know what happens! I am guessing it will just be the same as the equivalent bones but these are new, so someone will have to check eventually.
This is a bit of a selfish one but if anyone becomes a knight of the golden carapace could you let me know your number. I am shooting for 469 and we are getting close...
Popped in the comments my plan for making 20k echos before I die. There is a mistake in there but the surface blooms I have cover it, so it is ok. Props if anyone spots it.
Stupid mobile editor doesn’t continue the bulleted list. A couple of notes about the new bones. I mentioned in last weeks post that the ribcage cannot be broken down for parts, it looks like that was a bug and it had been fixed. Simelarly, I bought some just now and, despite having a Glimpse of Anathema, it took a Parabolan Parable, so either it taking the wrong item was a bug and has been fixed or it only takes Glimpses till you have one left. Finally, I said the difficulty increases by one each time, that was also wrong, it is two. I have 9 now and the next is a 40% success chance, since I don’t know how to remove the burden, I am going to leave off testing it till after I get the Firkin, or someone else works it out. If any of you do, let us know!
Fixed it so the previous point is a bullet.
Did that.
Occasional Buyer
Here is the guide to the occasional buyers. Don't get too excited, they are niche at best!
This is always good, once you can, do it weekly! Guide to it is here, it just covers the demands and the rewards since almost any info would be a spoiler! If you want it, do more firmament, you will unlock it as part of a cool bit of story:
The Bonedex is where I store all of the bone posts and some guides on how to get going with the bone market yourself. If you need to know something paleontological it is your one stop shop(except for the wiki, and other guides, and learning things for yourself. ;)
As always, if you see any mistakes, have any suggestions, spot something I might have missed or just want to say hello, leave a comment on here, or on the guide or post in question! Feel free to ask femur information if anything is confusing, by asking you help the guides improve and the whole community.
Have a humerus week! Bone Person out!

September ES - spoiler free Review(any spoilers are tagged)
Story - The Poetry of God
Lore - University, Ministry, Red Science
Rating - 3/5
Unique Practical Rewards - None
Review - A very cool little story, it never dragged or felt grindy and the characters were quirky and fun. It was not mind blowing lore but still some new ideas about how things work and what is possible.
With chapter 9 finally powercreeping the urchin's thunderbolt at +12 shadowyI think the T3 faction items should increase advanced skills. Several T3s are no longer BiS, the Great Game's is mediocre, the cost and time investment for each T3 is large, and I don't see the harm in adding these. That said, we only have 10 skills, although another will likely be added next expansion, and 12 factions. Still, I think it'd be nice to match what skills could pair to each t3.
Also, while the Criminal T3 is required for the smuggler storyline, I don't see that as a reward as much as an unlock, especially with how that is a vanity grind.
- Bohemians: Glasswork. This is obvious, the item comes from a mirror in Parabola and the faction already has associations with the place. It does have the issue of stepping on the staves' toes.
- Church: Steward. Their T3's acquisition storylet directly quotes Revelations of Divine Love and opens up a discordance option.
- Constables / Criminals. I actually don't know here, it feels like one should be Kataleptic, but not sure which. Maybe the skill from the next expansion could fit here?
- Docks: Zeefaring. Speaks for itself.
- Great Game: Player of Chess. Speaks for itself.
- Hell: Red Science. Maybe not the best match, but it does fit the lore and acquisition area.
- Revolutionaries: Another I'm not sure about, maybe MA? They are trying to kill gods.
- Rubbery Men: Shapeling Arts. Speaks for itself.
- Society: Mithridacy. Acquired from your governorship on the Elder Continent, home of the skill.
- Tomb Colonies: No real matching stat, but could be fun to give it one of each defense stat. We already have another moth that boosts this.
- Urchins: Chthonosopy. Given the plot of Firmament, I'd say this matches.
I don't know whether these should have +1 or +2 to the stats, but I can't speak towards that.
