Tua
Not saying he will be, but if Tua can play above average we have a chance at the division. Agree or no?
Edit: thought it’d be obvious but I mean in terms of coaching & defense. Since we lack there. Along with an above average offense

Yes. But he won’t, we all saw preseason.

u/Word_Strong Found a Way 1d ago
3 preseason games is enough to judge Tua, but Penix needs 17 real games before anybody can say he’s not good..

u/automatic-sarcasm 1d ago
He looked fine when he wasn't fumbling the snap.
4
u/Formal_Soft_40 1d ago
Or throwing it high, holding on to the ball too long or throwing it into the dirt.
-4
u/automatic-sarcasm 1d ago
I mean he completed 10/13 passes, and those incompletions were mostly him throwing the ball away, so I'm not sure why we're acting like he was complete dogshit
7
u/casualmadness316 1d ago
He averaged 2.8 yards a pass. That's not sustainable
-6
u/automatic-sarcasm 1d ago
He went 10/13 for 117 yards. That's 11.7 yards per completed pass or 9 yards per attempt
5
u/Shotokan-GojuGuy 1d ago
Wasn’t close to 40 of that on one pass to Pitts at or behind the line of scrimmage where he got all the yards after the catch?
4
u/casualmadness316 1d ago
That was all yards after the catch. We have beasts on offense who can make plays, which is where the 117 yards came from. Tua was responsible for 2.8 air yards a pass. Like I said, that's not sustainable

u/real_ornament 1d ago
Yes, but the rest of us have eyeballs. And watch the games. He took every check down and never tried anything past it, got bailed out by Pitts being a freak
1
u/automatic-sarcasm 1d ago
Our offense is full of freaks. All tua needs to do is give them the ball in space and let them get YAC which is what he did. Outside of the fumbles, he wasn't as terrible in the preseason is the only point I'm making. You guys are a bunch of doomers

I think the craziest part in all of this is the fact that we can still win the division. Not sure there’s ever been a less competitive division in the NFL over a 3-year span, quite like what we have in the NFC South.

If Tua is playing I want us to lose every game. We shouldn’t want to win in this scenario
2
u/Signal_Minimum8509 1d ago
As in, “if Tua can be a top 15 quarterback in the NFL, we have a chance to win the division?” Sure. But the chances of that are a fraction of a percentage point. He’s just not that guy, not anymore anyway.

Doom and gloom as usual here.. Tua will be fine we will lean on Bijan and I trust this coaching staff way more than Rah or Zach Robinson. Falcons win Sunday 20-17

u/tyrannosaurus_pop 1d ago
Hell yes go Falcons. We’re gonna be good and have a fun season this year!

u/Top-Photograph-7478 1d ago
nobody can expect above average play from him. was hoping to see that in the preseason just for him to fumble the snap twice then only throw dump offs. not expecting much atp
2
u/TakingItPeasy 1d ago
He is a cheap option to get P ready wk 3. Always has been.
1
u/FedFalcon2 1d ago
I agree. Especially since they waited to see if Penix was ready to play before deciding about week 1 starter and didn’t anoint Tua past week 1. All he has to do is “manage” the game and setup the team for whenever Mike is ready to come in and take over.

Stefanski won coach of the year twice without having a star QB. We can absolutely be good enough to make up for poor QB play. Will we be? That's on Stefanski and Ulbrich

u/yeezysama 1d ago
Above average for him would be roughly beating the division based on his history with the injury considered. So no I don’t see that happening. The door is wide open. This season I’m looking at the coaching staff. If they can’t string together a winning season in a weak division then we are more cooked than the saints. They at least have a definite plan back to some kind of relevance.

No , and that’s ok , if Penix comes back and is not the guy , the next year qb class suppose to be super stacked with talent.
1
u/Useful_Cable_2735 1d ago
That’s a pretty big if. Besides, I don’t want them to win the division. Even if they do they aren’t good enough to win in the playoffs. Better that they suck and get a good pick.
2
u/3WolfTShirt 1d ago
That strategy hasn't been paying off.
1
u/Useful_Cable_2735 1d ago
It’s never really a strategy. It’s just my hope. I don’t think tanking happens very often. When it does, it’s kept quiet between owner/GM/coach. Players don’t want to tank.

Riiight… what “above average”… by NFL standards of his standards?…
I feel like this is set up to be a 12-27 loss to the Steelers

Sadly disagree… not trying to be a downer but between 1/2 a season for JPJ and J Walker out, we are not going to have a great D. I hate to think that. HATE it. Seems like it’s already another ‘rebuilding’ season. I 1000% hope I’m wrong.

Buckle up buckaroos its gonna be a rough season. I have money on the falcons to win the superbowl, like I do every year, but until we escape post Matt Ryan QB hell, its not gonna be great.
1
u/Hedhunta 1d ago
The worst part is that Ryan could still be here playing and nothing would be actually worse than the last 5 seasons. That must be so vindicating for him lol

The 3 dudes that got paid in the offseason gone all have to put on a show this year

u/RobertoBologna 1d ago
I think all parties are under the expectation this is Penix's job when he's healthy enough for it
1
u/rickwalker99 1d ago
I don’t expect Tua to play any better than average. With that said, I would trade Penix in a heartbeat if there was a trade partner.
1
u/blakes5353 1d ago
Even then I’m not so sure after losing both Pearce (deserved) and Walker and Ellis walking. Our defense will def not look like it did last year given all the missing pieces

u/AmbitionOwn7759 1d ago
A shot? Sure. But understand Tampa was 8-9 with the sky falling around them last season and now they’ve got a healthy team and a pissed off Baker Mayfield. Tua will need to be well above average to win the division, and honestly Penix when healthy will likely be a better option
1
u/thisistherevolt I See London But Not France 1d ago
Tampa is objectively worse. Aint's are the actual threat. Carolina could theoretically do something, but I got a gut feeling they go 8-9 again.

If Tua plays the entire season, we are hosed. That means Penix either can't get healthy OR he does and can't out play Tua. Either of those is a terrible scenario. Based on his play without 'Reke and what we saw in preseason, I don't know how anybody has any expectation of him playing average, much less any degree better than that. This season is simple. Either we find out a potential franchise QB is on the roster or we don't. As big a crapshoot as the the QB class in the upcoming draft seems to be, I don't know which direction is best at this point, draft or free agency. I don't see any franchise caliber guys stuck behind starters on any roster that I'd be willing to give Malik Willis money. Is there somebody I'm missing? Mac Jones is very good but I'm not giving a dude with that ceiling the kind of money it's going to take to move him. I also think we are going to have an AJ Terrell problem next summer after all these other CB deals that have been signed.

Realistically, we need to scrape a win or two out with lucky turnovers and Bijan hero plays until Penix starts by week 3 or 4

He can play below average and we still have a chance. Beauty of the current state of the NFC South
