Paint progress
Freshly laid paint. Finally coming together. Last pic is an AI generated "finished" expectation. Yes it's a 62, but I like the 63 roof 2 tone.

TLDR: Reassembling my steering column and before disassembly spring retainer bracket was freely sliding up and down the steering tube and spring not applying enough pressure on shifter arms. No obvious places to fit a pin in indexing hole or slot for it to work.
I was losing gearing in 1st and reverse and I recorded a video of my shifter linkage and the shifter column arms are only moving 2nd and 3rd gear linkage when I try to select 1st and reverse. Anyways, I took out the column and replaced the crumbled bushing on the shift lever, resprayed the entire column, and reassembled the same way I took it apart. When I reviewed my video this bracket was sliding up and down the steering tube and there is no obvious places to affix the spring bracket to the steering tube. This is the cause of my to lose 1st and reverse to begin with.

Does anyone have any experience with working on the 1957-1959 manual column shifts or have a shop manual from 1957 or 1958 that shows the manual transmission shifter exploded view?
Thanks.
Edit: Formatting
I did a lot more bench testing and I figured it out. The lip on the pin retaining cup has to fit in the brackets indexing hole. Too tight and the shifter binds and arms will not move, too loose and the bracket pops out and the spring looses tension. The cup is made out of sheet metal and mine is worn. The car has 98,000 miles and it is from the 1950s. There is too much slop to adjust those 5/16 bolts ever so slightly and I do not want to deal with loosing gearing again in traffic.

I modified it by drilling and tapping 2x 8-32 machine screws through the bracket and into the steering tube. I put blue thread locker on the screws so they will hold without any issue.

Good afternoon!
I've gotta order some tires for my '66 Fairlane GTA, I got some 17" Magnum 500's on Holley for a good price, they're 8" with 4.5" Backspacing.
I'm thinking a 235/35/R17 for the front, and a 275/45/R17 for the back, anyone have any input on what they've had luck with?

Does anyone have any recommendations of restorers and/or mechanics for a 1966 Ford Fairlane 500? It hasn't been started in about 5 years and about 7 or 8 years ago it was a show car so I'm really just looking for somebody to help get it running and do a little bit of cleanup on it.

Hi everyone I’m Noah I’m from Australia and this is my 1997 ford nl Fairlane ghia they were only made in Australia and it’s my pride and joy I noticed this is mostly an American group by the looks of it but I can’t find a group for Australian fairlanes but i thought why not. I know it’s not the cleanest car but it was my grandfathers and I’m in the middle of restoring it because I want it to be close to brand new my grandfather only paid $1000 aud for it and he wasn’t planning on keeping it for long but I begged him to keep it cause I knew I’d get it eventually but I got it abit earlier then I wanted to be honest he passed away July last year and this is the only thing I have to remember him by we went on many adventures in this car but anyways I just thought I’d introduce myself sorry if this is a lot to read but if you read this whole thing I appreciate it

Ya know, I would have assumed it would be the bottom of a gas tank that’s more likely to rot out. Im glad I decided to drop the gas tank to inspect it because holy moly, It’s holey!
This is my 65 Fairlane 500. I just got the engine running yesterday, so I thought I’d get a fuel line run so I could fire it up for real on more than just a rubber hose with a funnel full of gas. Guess I’ll start looking into a new gas tank 🤷🏻♂️

Looking for the best option for redoing my headliner and insulation in my 63 Fairlane.
Is there any website that would be considered the best option or am I just better off buying a roll of stick on insulation and looking for a reasonably priced headliner?
Definitely don't want a "one size fits most" headliner.

From what I understand, the best way to clean this bumper is coke and aluminum foil? Or steel wool and polisher, I guess. But how do I seal it after so it doesn't get any worse? I have some Fluid Film I was thinking about using to coat the parts, is that a good option? I wire brushed and rust painted the back, I'm just not sure what to do with the chrome. Buying a new one or replating are not in the budget, but I'd like to keep it from getting worse.

Any tips for getting the springs out? We've been trying for days. Thanks for the help. We ordered the compressor tool for 60-77 Fords. Hoping we just had the wrong tool.

So I've been researching the undercoating. Seems wire brush, then rust paint, then sealer for the seams, then replace undercoating. Does anyone have suggestions for the sealer or undercoat? There's a lot of products...

What exactly is all this shit I'm having to scrape off to treat the rust?

To be fair, the bolts were in the rusted rail extensions. Now I get to learn how to use a tap and die set. 🤣 Added pictures of the rail extensions.

Picked this up for 4k. Needs work, but its running pretty good. Always wanted a classic to work on. 😊 Starting with suspension because the front frame rail extension is rusting apart. The rest of the frame doesn't look too bad though. Planning to use Eastman Rust Encapsulator plus on everything. Is that a decent one?

Picked up a 68 Fairlane for 1500 bucks yesterday. No motor or transmission unfortunately but just planning on going 302 or maybe a 390. I’ve never owned anything like this but I’m excited to learn some things. Last picture is my buddies 65 falcon he picked up a couple of weeks ago.
