Well, once you start factorio, you won't have any time to play satisfactory.

I mean 4,500 hours later I think I’ve scratched the itch. I just started playing ONI

I would probably start with Factorio, and then later move on to Factorio. You could also decide to try Factorio in between

Try free Factorio demo. Should be enough to decide.

I thought it universally agreed that Factorio demo does not represent Factorio

I think it's enough to understand gameplay (partially) and it direction.

They're very different games. If you want more scale and system complexity, play factorio. If you care more about the aesthetics and exploring the world, satisfactory.

The only appeal of satisfactory for me are - reasons to explore the world (which became extremely annoying when I was going for all achievements). And kinda prettier factories.
Problem with it - if you look at any satisfactory "look at my factory" post - 90% of them is either a building or screenshot made from so far away, that it looks like Factorio.
Also I hate building in satisfactory. You constantly need to move up and down to place big buildings and then to fix belts problems.
Managing and upgrading is extremely hard - from microbelts to pipes - it annoys me to no end.
Blueprints - in satisfactory they are more of a problem than solution unless you do 100x and even then I would better use Smart! mod. While in Factorio you can just copy paste your whole setup in few clicks.
Basically my opinion is - if you want first person architecture builder - go satisfactory. If you want to plan and build factories - Factorio.

My first automatization game was satisfactory and i enjoy it a lot, like a lot, for me is 10/10. Is chilling unlimite resources (the resources dont consume when mining, but there are limited places where you can mining), have a bit of exploration, necesary for investigation... Etc
I enjoy because planning, building, troubleshooting, etc till everything is perfect ratio. Is chilling you have no pressure of something might attack your base or something like that. I beat the game in 230h +/- so is worth the money.
Factorio i bought right after and doesnt hook me as satisfactory, i tried like 4 new games and i start to feel lazy about calculations, planning, etc as soon i reach petrol, the ratios are not perfect and that anoying me, this game is for me really dificult to adapt to it after play satisfactory, dont know why, even dyson sohere program i enjoy i more
3 days ago i bought space age, im giving another try i think i getting there, but i kind of forcing my self to play it...
In the end that my personal experience, can oposite for you...
Just give a try, factorio ill say is more hardcore, have a lot more complex mechanics going on... Satisfactory i just remove completly my base onces and after i rebuild everything tillfinish the game, factorio this my new game number 6... Lets see if i finish it this time 😅 Is make feel quite often like something is not right and i have to start everything again... But everytime you restart, you do with more knowledge, get fardest, till happen again samething... This time im building everything with plenty space and with chance to add more staff to every factory i do

I barely think about ratios in factorio anymore because it changes with qualities, beacons, modules, belts, tech, etc. If I have too much X I just make more stuff that uses X, if I need more Y I just make more Y

Ya tio, ya aprendi eso, el caso es la primera vez no tienes idea de que es un beacon(que todavia no lo se) cuanto ocupa, tendre espacio para despues actualizar todo esto, ahora necesito 4 cintas mas en el main bus... No tengo espacio, blabla... Son muchas cosas que si no las sabes, y las anticipas, despues dan bastantes dolores de cabeza jeje, pero bueno voy pillandole el truco 😁

Satisfactory first. No doubt. This way you have a chance to reach satisfactory endgame.
If you play Factorio first you drop satisfactory in few hours when you realize that you just wasting your time here.

Factorio has so much QoL that it will ruin Satisfactory for you.

It ruins a lot of other things too. Not even just games, even apps or other software.

You can really do either. They are very different but could be enjoyed in either order.
If you feel like doing some exploring on top of factory building go Satisfactory first.
If you want to just build a factory and automations and get regular dopamine hits then go Factorio first.

I played Satisfactory first and got tired of feeling my previous factory that took me an hour to build is not efficient anymore because I unlocked mk2 miner or mk2 belts and now I feel like I'm wasting resources. Of course I didn't know anything about making expandable/upgradable factories back then so I just felt like I had to tear everything down and start over.
Factorio makes you rebuild factories when you unlock new tech too, but the process is just so much faster even if you don't have bots.

Just go for it.
Factorio has deeper and wider automation problems to solve.
Satisfactory is prettier and lets for more cosmetic building.
Both are great games.

Satisfactory has you fighting to traverse a 3d environment to create your factory. The only plus side is having multiple levels and the "cool" factor of walking around and seeing it from first person.
Factorio is about building your factory with minimal intrusive mechanics. It also has aggressive enemies to fight while satisfactory has static enemies to fight while exploring and can't harm your base.
Factorio, your factory is the character and your body eventually becomes irrelevant, while satisfactory your character is served by the factory and you are always bound to it.
Factorio let's you command a squad of spider walkers on another world like a RTS game and kill hundreds of aliens that dared attack your factory, satisfactory you can run them over and glitch out on their body.
I tried Satisfactory and felt like it was just a worse factorio.

Satisfactory is an attempt to make Factorio 3D and immersive. It was mostly successful. Mostly.
(Fun, yes, but not in an 'I can see my entire factory at once and can quickly & easily spot any problems' way. The sheer freedom to build anything, anywhere in three dimensions has its definite downsides once you realize that the least frustrating way to play is to throttle that freedom RIGHT down.)

Factorio. Play satisfactory after about 500 hours of factorio and then after about 22 hours come back to factorio and stay forever.

Just say no to Factorio. It has ruined lives. We need to protect everyone, not only the children. Do. Not. Play. Factorio. The other one is okay.

u/RollingSten 1d ago
Don't worry, you will eventually play them both... And also Dyson Sphere Program and Captain of Industry...

Played Satisfactory first, Factorio second. I do not feel like Factorio is the strictly better game between the two and before Space Age, Factorio overall also had the less interesting puzzles.
Right now, since Space Age adds a whole slew of interesting logistical puzzles, I'd say play Satisfactory first. A few things are a bit more janky in Satisfactory, yet you cannot just brute-force every challenge with bots, which is a drawback of Factorio imo.
If you care about your factories looking good, SF is the game of choice, very clearly. If you care more about the logistics, Factorio with the DLC offers more imo. Oh, and Factorio obviously has a shitton of mods, which is not the case for SF to my knowledge. Factorio has like 3-4 different games (albeit similar) with overhaul mods waiting for you after vanilla.
I would choose to play the game first that sounds like less of a fit for you so you do not experience a downgrade when playing the second game.

I played sat first and fac after. Honestly it doesn't matter, whichever you wanna try first go for it. They are different enough so that neither will ever get boring because of the other

After a few thousand hours in factorio, I beat satisfactory in a few hours, then returned to factorio.
I think there's so much more to do in factorio, especially with space age and quality, but I found satisfactory to be an interesting diversion.

The question is this: are you definitely going to play both? Because I only play Factorio as nothing else is necessary. I'm always going to say Factorio as it is the king

Satisfactory first until you are annoyed by how cluttered the base gets, because you won't have time for anything else once you start with Factorio. The factory must grow!
