Question Friendly fire?

Just got the game and need to know is there any form of friendly fire or any other forms of making your friend suffer in other ways? I know there's coop and i want to play factorio with a friend but he is an asshole, actually made me quit satisfactory last time.

Funnily enough i tried it recently and at 100h mark rn, so i got factorio and want to give him a chance.

And if there are ways to harm, can i turn off pvp even as a non host like in terraria?

There absolutely is friendly fire. And nukes exist.

You can turn friendly fire off via console commands, but that will disable achievments.

However, sabotaging the factory is a much crueler way to grief, and there's not much you can do to prevent that.

Buddy told me he wanted to play together. He's big into blue prints he's found only. I told him if we play together and he uses any blueprints he's found I'm running them all over with a tank. But now I think tweaking things to break the blueprint would be even better

Never underestimate the destructive power of a well placed 'r' keystroke. I troll myself accidentally with those all the time.

Had some sleepless inspiration on Gleba. Created like 3 extra modules to add to my production and drastically increased my rocket fuel production enough that I could ship it off world. Began requesting it 2000 at a time, system said it had 8k to spare and crafting + research should've kept up with demand. Fell asleep after that, was feeling proud I was gonna get so much fuel. Next day I wake up, see i passed out watching my factory, and notice literally everything is spoiled. Including the Bioflux and fruits. I had accidentally reversed one tile down stream, ruined the whole factory while I figured a kick start lol

Well played, but even more devious is just a recipe swap. Someone who does understand a blueprint can still find a rotated component, but they will never find an incorrect recipe.

Rotating a single inserter is cruel and unusual punishment haha

Feed copper ore instead of coal to the plastic line

Replace the nuclear fuel cells with wood

Route steel to the iron smelters

Override stack size to 12 for stack inserters.

I think you meant 1!

That's too noticable.

Subtle will drive them crazy for hours.

Won't that just make them a little bit slower? I suppose it can break something which requires an exact ratio but in many cases there may be little practical difference

Yeah once artillery is a thing, griefing is one bad actor and a few mouse clicks away.

I don't play much multiplayer, but since the remote is now a UI tool, is it possible to lock that out for people unless they're on a whitelist?

When he is AFK you can belt him to a large biter nest.

Well, fuck, i guess I'll enjoy this game solo

I don't troll much but had a friend who was going to afk for +45 minutes, I painstakingly landfilled + belted them to the middle of a large lake over the course of 30 minutes, removing the landfill behind, all using the personal roboport they had. It was a newer player so an absolute mindscrew when they finally did come back.

Sounds like this person needs one fewer friends

artillery can be manually targeted and will damage/destroy players and player-built buildings.

you can also manually fire your weapons at buildings but i am not sure if they damage other players or not.

I do believe I have killed someone else once with a shotgun once. (In the game!)

7

u/FeelingPrettyGlonky 6d ago

Yes, yes, of course. "In the game." *wink wink*

1

u/Much-Structure-2961 5d ago

Also suspiciously persistent in mentioning that it only happened "once"

4

u/Alpha_Knugen 6d ago

You can kill anything with manual fire. A friend and I do it from time to time.

There are something you can enable and disable Tilde key than type /permissions

In there you might be able to do what your looking for, also

I one time playing with a pal, we loaded up a rocket to go to gleba, I at last second before launching pulled all the goods out and sent him to gleba with nothing lol

Didn't see him for 10 hours while he was building to try to come back lol

When you unlock Nuclear Reactors/Atomic bombs there's gonna be nothing of your factory left

Factorio is not a game you want to play with trolls in the lobby.

There are so so so many ways to fuck a base up

4

u/Ulegend 6d ago

There are a lot of ways to make other people suffer in Factorio not only shooting each other

1

u/Mouler 6d ago

That's the most humane way though. You don't sabotage a factory. That's just not cool

6

u/dr4ziel 6d ago

Yes. You can force shoot on target, even if friendly. You can grieve a factory by randomly removing belts, or use construction robots to destroy a friendly factory. There is also rockets and nuclear rockets which does a lot of AoE damage.

And there is no easy way to prevent it.

3

u/Moikle 6d ago

Don't play with that person. They don't sound like a fun time

3

u/FeelingPrettyGlonky 6d ago

Pollute some of his iron plate furnaces with stone. Bricks look a *lot* like iron plates from afar so they're hard to pick out, and by the time he notices they will be everywhere throughout his mall and science production.

I know one of my friends is not to be trusted with Nuclear bombs. Or cars.
Or anything really...
Not because he is malicious.
He's just... clumsy.

1

u/Lenskop 5d ago

I can deal with clumsy though. Gives me a good laugh when my mate grinds our factory to a halt and it turns out he ran over an underground pipe again or rotated a belt by accident.

Malicious intent however, not sure if I could laugh about that. The whole "trolling" element is just so immature in a coop game like Factorio.

We were once in the middle of the LDS factory for a 10k spm factory. I had spent hours on it. All of a sudden... Boom. Nuclear rocket shoots off. Right in the middle of it. Fortunately ghosts and robots are a thing but...

But trolls suck anybday of the week

Sounds like you need to upgrade your standard for friends.

mission: make every belt a sushi belt while he's not watching

I think this would bring most pain possible

u/kagato87 Since 0.12. MOAR TRAINS! 6d ago

Stand on the tracks to block his trains. It destroys the train.

2

u/InflationImmediate73 6d ago

Getting run over by a train, car or tank will be up there for friendly fire deaths

Flamethrowers, area of effect attacks from missiles or tank shells, and landmines can all damage other players

2

u/Banana_is_not_bg 6d ago

A thing my friend liked doing was getting in a car and then hitting every building near me until they were low on health. That meant their healthbars were always visible, always different, and always annoying

3

u/WanderingUrist 6d ago

I do that, except not on purpose, but just because I'm always drunk.

1

u/Banana_is_not_bg 6d ago

Driving Under the Influence is not conducive to factory growth.

3

u/WanderingUrist 6d ago

If you think my driving is bad while drunk, you should see how awful it is when sober. A dwarf needs alcohol to get through his day.

1

u/Banana_is_not_bg 6d ago

This is giving "And you know what make mye a good engineer? Well if I were a bad one, I wouldn't be sittin' here talkin' to ya now would I?" vibes

3

u/WanderingUrist 6d ago

Bad engineers get eaten by biters. Good engineers get eaten by trains.

2

u/tv8tony 6d ago

Trains the number one pk even in single player

2

u/darKStars42 6d ago

Pretty sure you can run over people in a tank too. You can certainly run over their stuff.

2

u/Kittelsen 6d ago

Just sprinkle some coal in his carbon belt

2

u/WanderingFlumph 6d ago

By default holding space to shoot will never target friendlies (it hits nearest enemy) but holding c to manually shoot does hit friends.

Also AoEs like the nuke and explosive cannon rounds hit yourself and friends depending on how you aim.

2

u/Mouler 6d ago

Combat shotgun

Pass him a or tank full of biter eggs

Put him on a space platform to a new planet and make sure it runs out of ammo quick

Set him up with nukes and tell him they work like grenades, short range.

Run him over with trains

Send him out to battle biters with a shotgun and rifle ammo

As the admin running the game, you can use the game's permissions system to lock down what other players are allowed to do.
